It's funny how sometimes we don't even realize were discriminating because we've been brought up just naturally to say things a certain way. Ex: A group of people (let's say four men and two women of varying ages) are standing around somewhere talking. Someone else walks up and says, "Hey, guys." There are clearly women and men present, but all are referred to in the masculine because that's the "stronger" or "more appropriate" term. We would never dream of walking up to the same group and saying, "Hey, girls." if there was even one guy present, because that would be automatically offensive to the guy. You can call an old person old, because that is offensive. So, really, you shouldn't be able to call a young person young, but we do. Anyway, I jsut think it's interesting and I sympathize with Thirza, I'd would annoy me too when I was younger (hell, it would bother me now). You can smell 'em at the entrance sign. As far as the cow king, I have a Gateway 2000, and if you didn't know, there mascot is indeed a surfing cow... (purely coincidental)... Not to mention my sister is pretty big... (apparently I'm mean tonight?) -Bruce "I'm almost ashamed to post this" bhartford3rd@juno.com On Wed, 15 Jan 1997 23:27:08 -0500 (EST) "Anthony S. I'm also a little uncomfortable with the amount of cussing going on on the list. I don't mind it (I'm hardly an angel, well, maybe just Everyday), but it seems to be getting a little excessive. Just my thoughts on the subject, but I don't think it should be outlawed entirely, just be a little more restrained...
