Tea for Two is pretty much a standard duo. It's been around ever since I can remember (I'm 46). Ella was great by the way. She's probably inspired as many singers as Little Richard has rock groups. I hope Jewel can eventually develop a jazz repetoire, since she has said Ella was one of her big influences. Did you see my review of Madeleine Peyroux's debut Dreamland? I played it for about four or five musically savvy people and they all were inpressed. Three of them went out and bought it. He reads viewer mail on the show so e-mail Tom or his guests a message in Dear Tom (the LATE LATE SHOW'S e-mail address is latelateshow@cbs.com). Thanks. THE LATE LATE RADIO SHOW A three-hour programming block was created by building talk programming around the simulcast of The Late Late Show on the CBS Television Network. The complete program airs from 11:00-2:00AM, ET, Monday-Friday. Mason hosts an entertainment-oriented talk show featuring actors, comedians, authors, musicians and people in the news. The simulcast airs from 12:37-1:37 AM, ET, with Snyder joining Mason at the top and bottom of the three-hour show. Heard on 85 stations across the country, Mason and Snyder take calls on 1-800-890-9990 and respond to e-mail at: latelateradio@cbs.com What this means, unless I'm totally screwed up, is that Tom Snyder comes on at 12:37 AM ET, and is simultaneously broadcast on the guy Mason's radio show. It also means that if you want to call during the TV show you must do it between 12:37 and 1:37 AM ET. In my area the show starts at 11:30 PM MT. That's an hour after it starts live. So I would have to call an hour before the show starts without knowing what's going on. I don't watch Tom much, but he seems to research his guest pretty well, respcects them, and lets them talk a lot. This may be our best chance to see Jewel at ease in an interview which last more that a couple of minutes. It would be nice if one of us could get through on the phone (he only takes a few calls) and ask an intelligent question which will give Jewel a chance to reveal some of her charm. Actually, as promos go, they're all basically distributed the same way, so none would be more rare than others. It all has to do with demand. Since everyone is so interested in STL and PBFGAB, then those may be considered as such, but they still made the same #, they're just harder to get. Basically, a run of CDs is pressed. In Atlantic's case, this is probably several thousand. The promotions department sends them out. Typically, there'll be some sort of strategy on how to promote the single, so they'll have certain key radio stations, newspapers, DJs, etc, who they make sure will get at least one copy. Most labels have reps whose job it is to keep in contact with these places, so they just have a big list to go down. A lot of copies are given out to record stores, and again, more to radio, for giveaway to listeners and whatnot... Also, biz rags like R&R(playlists) and Gavin(ratings) categorize radio stations by format. They go down the list for the format they intend to service, and send copies to these stations too. If it's a big campaign, they will pretty much send copies to every address they can get, not always checking for repeats. Atlantic's sister label actually sent the little college station I was at over a dozen copies of Madonna's Express Yourself single, including some by overnight fedex(!). These extra copies everywhere are usually the source for all these shops that sell them. In Jewel's case, they didn't send *quite* that many out, but they sent a fair number. The problem, as has already been noted, is that there are a lot of collectors, and Jewel is pretty sought after right now. They used to send them to people just for the asking, but too many people have taken to doing that, so this is pretty much unheard of, now. I've left a lot out, but others can fill in the details better than I. hope that helps. It's an indie label release. indie > label "Jewel Klcher Wiggly Tooth ASCAP" now a sub bracket of atlantic. Nope. Wiggly Tooth is her music publisher. It controls the rights to the actual compositions and not necessarially recordings. And, Wiggly Tooth lives on today. - -- Reverend Angus avernon@scott.net ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 10 Jan 1997 18:01:06 +0000 From: "Andrew Fu" Subject: VH-1 Top Ten Countdown Jewel's "You Were Meant For Me" was number nine on VH-1's Top Ten Countdown today. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 11 Jan 1997 09:20:38 +1000 From: leob@kuentos.guam.net (Leo and Donna Babauta) Subject: Re: Obsessive much? >> This list has been getting increasingly obsessive lately. It's cute but....really. Hi Angels! This is a bit late, but ... I think I originally wrote that we should wear big wings to concerts, like in the movie "Michael". AND I WAS TOTALLY KIDDING! I thought everybody got that, but if you didn't, I'm sorry I wasn't clear. Also, I was kidding about wearing jet packs and flying around at concerts. I don't actually think that would be practical, in terms of cost, noise, and controlling your flight. Plus, we'd look like total psychos. :) But if you want to wear jet packs ... How about this: instead, we paint our faces like KISS, wear Spock ears and dress like Star Trek fans? KIDDING! :) Cheers, Leo goofy tropical angel with Spock ears ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 10 Jan 1997 18:27:37 -0500 (EST) From: Grrly1@aol.com Subject: JC: available CDS I went to the Used cd store near my house and found everything i could of jewels. and i LOVE this store...they have a lot of good stuff. Now i have mine. My life is right now is like a horribly real version of "Don't Speak" and i'm mostly dead. For the last 2 months and 3 days I have, for the first time in my life, honestly been in love. He loved me too, I know that for sure, no matter what anyone says... but I was just too lucky to have him, and my luck ran out. In the last 3 days, this horrible problem has suddenly devoloped, involving a girl who he used to think of as a sister, and now I've been replaced by her. I guess it's right, but i just can't accept it. I knew this was going to happen the whole time, but now that it has it hurts so much... You all know him, he was my archangel, you may think he's not so great, but waht you saw of him was nothing of who he really is. I CARED about him, and I wanted never to care about anyone, because I'm so terrified of getting hurt. But somehow, I trusted him enough to care, and right away I got dumped. I may be really young and everything, and this is my first real "relationship", but we boht thought it would last. When he started to like this other girl, I knew it was happening, i just didn't want to face it, so I wouldn't believe what anyone sayed. My best friend told me I was blind not to see what was happening between them.. But what hurts the most is: It happened Wednesday 4th period, and Wednesday 2nd period, he told me he loved me. How great is that. So i'm dead. It was so hard for me to find him, and now, in just 2 days, I've lost him. I will never find another person like him, because ALL I WANT is a tall, blond, incredibly cute senior. In other words, all i want is him. Is there anyhting I can do to forget about him? Although I don't want to, I'm going to do everything in my power to get him back. He knows how this feels, because 2 months before he started going with me, the love of his life dumped him after 9 months. I just don't want to know that it's over... because it shouldn't be!!! sorry to be so obsessive, it's just that all my life, all my dreams, my FUTURE is now rendered completely obsolete, because without him, there's nothing I want! anyone who's ever been broken hearted, you know how i feel thanks all for listening. (like you did...) love, cj ps: I'm now single, so if any guy near South Dakota age 15-18 is looking for girl... :) ps2: I really don't cry that much, so do you see those tears staining the side of this letter? That's how hurt I am. ps3: And this girl he's going with now? She's a Jewel fan too, but I'm sure she doesn't REALLY appreciate her... ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 10 Jan 1997 20:44:25 -0600 From: Lehmann Subject: RE: >"Oh my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: = nevertheless, >not as I will, but as thou wilt." - Matthew 13:57 > >Preacher Feel free to do whatever you damn well please with the bible now, as me = and the Archangel are no more.
