The blurb next to the photo said: A LADY WITH SOUL Jewel's 1996 hit WWSYS is likely to be among the nominees for this year's Grammy awards. Jewel and several other women are expected to do well this year... Inside the section, it had a larger (3"x3") B&W of the photo. In fact, it was bigger than anyone else's photo: bigger than Celine Dion's (yeah!), bigger than Whitney Houston's (yeah!), even bigger than Vince Gill's (wow!), which is saying a lot in Nashville. The article mentioned her a couple of times, especially the following: "Jewel, who mixed WWSYS at two different Nashville studios (true?) could find herself in the running for song of the year, pop female vocal and best new artist." Then it mentions her as "also-possibilities" in the various categories. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 07 Jan 1997 14:33:54 -0500 From: Miguel Antonio Gonzalez Subject: Jewel on Grammy Nomminees are...on VH-1 She is one of the presenters. So, I just went around looking at homepages at it and asking people who had seen it to give me plot summaries. Later, we went to "The Wherehouse" and I said "Mom, the Craft soundtrack. I want it!" because I liked that song they played on the preview but I don't think it was on the album. (I think it was called "I am human" or something). But, my mom would only let me get it if I knew any of the songs on the album. I didn't know any of the artists, so I couldn't get it. Funny, now I'm going back to get it just because I love one of the artists. By the way, I won a "The Craft" t-shirt on one of the pages that I would go on for hours. Ok, so i was at school today and i needed to check my email real bad cause my dad was totally being a pooper last night so i just changed a few of the settings on the computer at school thinking, ya know, i'll just go in, go through the mail real quick like, change the settings back and enter the school's pass and everything'll be cool! well, all was going well but i go to change to the pass back... AND THEY CHANGED IT!!!!!!! i was so totally buggin!!! i thought i was gonna die... we're not even allowed to send mail without permission at my school let alone break into our computers! so, i get my chemistry teacher, who's totally cool and a hell of a lot better than my IT teacher, to come up and try to fix it. but by that time, since i had set the settings back, new mail had started to come in a was mixing with my mail that hadn't gone away. so i start to forward all the mail back to me but our puters are so shitty that it ran out of memory while they wree forwarding so my friends go and delete them ALL!! i thought they were all gone but as i was leaving the library at 5:30 this afternoon i see that there's a msg taped to the door... from IGOR!!! there was a teacher in there so all i could do was mutter... *oh shit* under my breath. i'll be at school by 7:45 in the morning so hopefully i can check it out... so, this post is totally pointless.. i just had to get this off my chest! :) love, laurel ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 7 Jan 1997 18:55:53 -0400 (AST) From: lmonkman@ibl.bm Subject: I found a point, ATTN: Greg Dunn, James Judd and anyone else i had to write to. Hey Yanos--if you don't like all the non jewel related posts, get your sorry butt on the news list. Basically, if you cut out the NJC stuff, that's what you'll get anyway. I work 11 hour days, have to cook my own meals, do my own cleaning, etc., and I still find time to read every message on the list. The list will be what it becomes--with or without you reading messages. I don't think anyone on this list will read your message and say "ya know, he's right--I swear I'll never post another NJC message". So if you don't like it, leave- don't let the door bust you in the a%% on the way out! And another thing-- if it weren't for the blue ribbons, I'd have never seen ther party van at Philly. I always look for blue ribbons at shows. And you know what? I like the fact that we do something that we all can see. And the smile that Jewel get s when she sees us shows me that she doesn't mind our comraderie, and the way we stick together. I think shirts or hats are a great idea! Let's do it! Many mailers are not all that MIME-savvy (like the one in my offce) and the only way to view the attachment is to save it to disk and use an external program. Only a few (like Netscape Navigator) can display attached image files inline. Many better mailers make URLs clickable so they can call the right helper then fetch the file. If you use HTML tags to enclose a URL to a picture, Netscape Navigator will still display it inline with the message text. Not only does doing this make it easier for mailer-impaired individuals, it also slashes the amount of data the Smoe server has to chuck around to everybody (imagine sending the same 50K file 700 times).
