As of now, I have the following people attending. If anyone wants to attend, I suggest reading (T H E O L D) first. Bob Damis Tom O'Brien Pete Wang Anthony Amato Rachel Kramer Bussel Gerrit Kruidhof Jared Jacobus Katherine ============================================================================ T H E N E W: I guess you Angels need directions to my place. Well this is the deal. Basically I suggest you go to an online trip planner like Cyber Atlas. Here is the URL (http://www.delorme.com/cyberatlas/index.htm#ROUTER). Follow the directions. For a destination City, type Commack and State, NY. As for the directions to my house, there is a few changes that will be made (you will get here quicker when I send you the update). If we all use the planer above, it will be easier for me to just send out a general Email depending if you are coming from the East or West of Commack. For an update in directions, send me an E-mail with (RE:Directions) in the subject line. I'll then send you the directions with the adjustment and my phone number in case you want to contact me, have trouble or get lost. The next thing is that my School is about to upgrade it's system so my E-mail will be on and off on Monday. If this is the case, I'll mail you from my other account at Juno and you can contact me at (everydayangel@juno.com). If you want to be safe, I suggest CC'ing the message to my juno account and my school account at (btanoue@ic.sunysb.edu). Eventually I'll get your message and there shouldn't be many problems. BTW, I talked to Katherine and Jared and we came up with a cool idea. I'll tell you all about it when I get your (RE:Directions) Email. If anyone is willing to give an Angel a ride, write that in your Email. Also note how you will get here (ie. train, car, ferry, etc.) so I can make special arrangements. Looking Forward to seeing you all :) An EveryDayAngel, Bryan. ============================================================================ T H E O L D: Here is the real deal. As is stated in the post below is the info about what is happening. As I have said before, this is open to anyone who wants to attend. We will meet in Commack, NY(Long Island) which is about 1 hr East of Penn Station NYC. I live near all the major Highways, Ferrys and Train Stations. We will give directions after we find out who is coming and for where one is leaving from. This way, we can tell you the quickest simplist way to my house. After Arrivial, we'll hang of course; talk Jewel, listen Jewel and Live Jewel. I would like to do this earlier so it gives everyone time to get to know each other. Later that night or after dinner, we can get coffee at a local Coffee shop called Romancing the Bean. Before you decide to delete this letter thinking it will contain personal spam, please read on. My intention is to have the label completely owned and operated by EDA members. This letter is not intended to be an offer to sell shares or seek investors. I am hoping to get feedback with ideas and interest from all of you. Back in October I first shared my idea with Selena. Since then, I have discussed the idea with several other EDAs. Most people have encouraged me to go forward. Many have said they would like to be involved. We have amongst the EDAs, people of many talents. In order to be involved, you only have to be a member of this list. Because of this list and the music of Jewel, I have decided to get back into the business that I have spent over 20 years in. At first I started to revive a management company I had, Prince Igor Agency. But then I decided on the record label instead. But I didn't want to just start a business. I want to make history. We can make history together. We can give birth to a record label that is born on the internet and run by stangers that came together because of only one thing in common, the love of Jewel's music. It will be formed by fans, run by fans, with the best interest of fans at heart. A few Q&A's Q. Who will have a chance to be involved? A. Only members of this list. Q. Will I have to make a career change? A. Only some people will be making a full time commitment. However everyone will have a chance to be involved in some way. We will welcome everyones ideas and encouragement. Q. Who is going to be on the label? A. We don't have any firm commitments yet. It will be mostly up to all of you. Jared is sending me a tape of someone he heard in NY. Larry G is taking me to a club in LA to see an artist. Someone suggested talking to the Rugburns because they are without a label. I wanted to talk to Lenedra after hearing her sing on the JS tapes. Recently, I talked to an artist that has several CD's out but is unhappy with her present label. She really liked my ideas. We may even discover talent right here. I can't wait to hear the EDA cover tape that Crash Boy is putting together. Q. How is the label getting funded? A. I have come up with a way to do this without asking for people to invest their money to get involved. If you want to be part of the label, it doesn't mean you have to invest money. Q. What took you so long to make this announcement? A. The biggest problem is how to make this label inclusive to all EDAs but not stuck in gridlock because of doing so. We need your ideas. Q. What's next? A. If you want to get involved or have any thoughts or ideas to share, write to me privately. PLEASE! In the subject put EDA Music. It is only fair that we discuss this privately at first. When we get enough people involved, I will try to make some arrangements with Jeff Wasilko. A lot of people have unsubscribed because of the holidays and semester break. I will post this again when everyone gets back to school and done with the holidays. It may take a while to answer all the mail anyway. Some of your letters will be forwarded and answered by one of the other people already involved. Through this list, so many of you have become dear friends. I couldn't think of a better reason to do this with all of you than that. It's not enough money for me to be willing to support the deceitful nature of these so called free services. I couldn't afford to add an unlimited number without help, but probably at least one or two. If this is really a popular concept, I might want to setup some sort of arrangement and have people voluntarily donate small amounts of cash to share the burden. My link isn't anywhere near as solid as Jeff W's, but it would work for something this small. If it becomes really popular, it would still not be prohibitively expensive to arrange something better, either. The important thing would be, to NOT allow a commercial site like Starmail to register the domain. Once they do that, we don't have the resources to get it back. Brick by Brick, BTW, is where The Rugburns are playing New Years Eve, in San Diego. Last night, Tom & Nancy Milagro made the trip to L.A. to hear the Rugs at the Opium Den in L.A. It was a great show and a great event. They announced an all ages show at Java Joe's in Ocean Beach (Sandy Eggo) on Friday, January 3! EDA GATHERING!!!!! My prediction is that Jewel will NOT be there, although, as usual, there's no confirmation of that. However, every one of my predictions this year has turned out to be wrong. (Before anyone gets too excited, remember that Friday is next year, so I start with a clean slate.) The Rugburns had a short set, cuz it was *disco nite* at the Opium Den afterwards, but they rocked, fueled by Jim Beam and Rolling Rock. They did a bunch of new things (which haven't been recorded, yet, but let's not overlook Igor's route to Rugburn fame). Songs to look for on the *new* cd will be the ABC song and Silver Lining (Tom & Nancy, is that the one with *hot dog* in the lyrics he said he wrote with Jewel?); the finale was Dick's Automotive, the Rugs' eqivalent to Alice's Restaurant. They are so twisted, I love them. Steve-O ended the set by diving into Stinky's drum set; it took a few minutes before they could entangle them all, but, feeling *no pain,* he managed a final bow, and he kissed me (not just me, BTW, and calm down, Mike, I don't need any sardonic rhetorical questions about my sexuality, thankewverymuch). Nancy, Tom & I all spoke to the band *upstairs* before the show. Nancy gave Stinky, the drummer, a new plaid kilt, which Steve announced on stage when they came out. (For those who don't yet know the Rugs, plaid is their trademark.) Stinky practically cried, he was so moved. I was wearing my Rugburns tee-shirt (under a plaid shirt, of course), the one that looks like a Rolling Rock label. All three band members commented favorably on that, and near the end of the set, Steve (with mucho help from senor Beam) called me up on stage to *model* the tee shirt and asked everyone (there were about 100 people there, tops) to buy one -- but there weren't any to be sold. One guy in the crowd came up to me afterwards wanting to know what sizes I had for sale. I think he mighta been tripping, so I just smiled and told him that I was wearing the only one I knew about. And, speaking of a small crowd, I have been calling this band an urban/country/punk band, but I didn't know that their *punk* audience averaged about 5 feet 2 inches, and that's just the (probable) guys! People snuck in front of me at the stage, and I didn't care; at 5'9" I just towered over them. I was talking to John, the bass player (who looks like Prince, or tafkap, or the glyphed one, whatever) about how the band was becoming a legend on the Jewel list and attracting a lot of interest that way. He said he hadn't any idea, and he thought it was neat. Steve was also very open and willing to talk; these guys are wonderful humans, and they have tons of fun playing, singing, goofing, carousing and fish-tailing (and fish-tale-ing, too) together. I hope we get lots of angels out for the January 3 show at Java Joe's. Fun is guaranteed. I believe someone else on the list had a similar experience of hearing Jewel in a restaurant. Well, of all restaurants it was McDonald's! YWMFM came on inbetween all the cheesy songs they play. It made my day. Also, I was in TGI Friday's eating and WWSYS played, but they usually do play good songs. BTW, I've noticed an increase of YWMFM on the radio here in New Orleans, that's a good thing. One more thing, New Orleans has a Jazz & Heritage Festival too! She should play down here. I've already discussed with Larry a Jewel, Jazz & Heritage Festival. That would rule! Well, Christmas Day was slow, so I went to the movies and saw "Michael", which is about an archangel played by John Travolta. I'm surprised no one else has seen this movie and posted about it yet! Overall, it's a pretty good movie...a great "date" film. Cleverly written, a little predictable, but good fun if you're in the mood. Travolta does his usual charm, line dance and such, and the rest of the cast does a decent job. WARNING: IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW ANYTHING THAT HAPPENS IN THIS MOVIE BEFORE YOU GET TO SEE IT, QUIT READING NOW! ;) Of course, the highlight was the introduction of an angel too heavy to fly, who sleeps in late, only to get up, have a beer and a smoke, then devour corn flakes buried in that demon of the 80's -- white refined sugar...Michael is apparently the angel who defeated Satan and showed him the door...now he's fascinated by viewing the world's largest ball of twine or largest teflon pan (but then aren't we all?). But something else struck me as a highlight that "could have been"... There's a scene late in the movie where Michael and friends are driving across Iowa, and stop at a roadside restaurant whose specialty is pie. The cute waitress falls hard for Michael (as do all the women in the movie -- what is that Travolta trick, anyway?), and ends up sitting on his lap eating pie, laughing and carrying on. She bears a passing resemblence to Jewel (physically and attitude-wise), and I thought "hey, what a great role for Jewel". So the waitress spends the night in Michael's room (playing cards perhaps?). But here are the two clinchers as to why Jewel should have played this role -- the "Wow, you've got wings! giggle...Cool!" comment heard through the room walls and, when she leaves at daybreak, she gets in an old beat-up VW bus, complete with peace sign, zen and yin-yang symbols. Jewel in a romantic situation with an archangel... Oooooh, I hate missed opportunities, don't you? See the movie, and tell me if I'm wrong. It's a shame the casting agent wasn't a Jewel fan! - -- Dennis (And that cloud looks like a...) This is one of those things we can't talk about- there are plenty of tapes which are better than the CD floating around, and they're free. They have the CD plus a little more. I'm a branch for the tree, and i'm just about out of Jcards, but we'll see about a few more being made. If you'd like one, let me know. I would be willing to do a few more and run off some more Jcards if we can't do another tree just to avoid evil people getting your money. That sounds mean. I'm not trying, honest. Although i have been dying to let out a BAH-HUMBUG lately. ;) It's the "I Swear to God It Won't Happen Again" tape with Mt Rushmore on the cover art. Very cute BTW :) James, who is sure dave would have answered this if he were around On Sun, 29 Dec 1996, Kim A Seiden wrote: > Today to waste time before going to see "One Fine Day" (which was pretty > good) I went to a record store and I saw a Jewel import called > "Salvation" It's really cool.
