NOTE: yes, this was posted to the juliana hatfield list too, so if you saw it there, fogive me... hiya, gang... for those who are interested, i taped the entire kroq show friday night. it was taped to high-quality chrome tape direct from a digital cable radio broadcast. i haven't gotten a chance to go back and listen to it minute-by-minute, but i can tell you this: *from what i did hear, it was a GREAT show, including a dressing-room-clearing group performance by most or all of the artists at the end of the show, prompted by natalie merchant. *there were screwy things going on with the levels all night, but my tapes should still be of pretty high quality, though my jewel segment will be from a first-generation dub since i am sending the master in as an "official archive" of her performance. *i missed a portion of "shadowboxer" by fiona apple (had to change the damn tape!) and about half of "i'm only happy when it rains" by garbage. other than that, the whole thing is intact, including backstage interviews of each artist as they left the stage. i will be happy to arrange trades for interested individuals for whatever portions of the show you might be interested in. however, a couple of caveats: *i am wrapping up finals this week, so i can't get started until at least thursday, at the earliest. *my wife is due to have a baby on christmas day, so that could further delay things if it decides to come early. *other than that, i have six glorious weeks before school starts again, so all i'll have to contend with in the meantime is work and a crying baby--who needs sleep, right? please contact me ONLY if you're sincerely interested and have recorded material to trade. i can't get involved in trades for blanks right now (though i might when things settle down, so try in a month or two if you're stuck and really want the thing)--sorry. and don't even think of offering cash. i've been out of the loop lately, but i've traded with several of you on this list in the past, and if you're one of those people, i think you'd agree that while my turnaround time might be slow at times, i give good trade. my primary interests, btw, are throwing muses/kristin hersh, belly/tanya donelly, blakes/juliana, and other female artists of those sorts of genres. enough blabbing, except to remind everyone to respond via PRIVATE E-MAIL ONLY if you're interested in a trade. i'm not trying to clog up the list with this process. thanks, scott ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 Dec 1996 01:25:09 -0700 From: kulisu@arn.net (Chris Pavek) Subject: NJC: A plea for help/thoughts/suggestions Hello folks, I am stuck between a rock and another rock and thought this would be a good time to post something worthwhile to the list. First some background on me: I'm an 18 year old college student living at home with a fairly well paying job ($800/month), my own car and computer. My mother works nights as a correctional officer at the local women's prison and I have a 5 year old brother in kindergarten. Father's not around due to a recent devorce and he can barely make the child payment. At home I pretty much have everything paid for with no worries except for school and work. For those of you with high I.Q.'s, you've probably already guessed where I'm going with this. Now for my current situation: A very good friend of mine has asked me to take out a lease with him on a fairly decent sized duplex (only one part of it mind you). All expenses would be split 50/50 and it seems to us that nothing could go wrong money wise. However, I am the only one home at night to take care of my brother and my mother wouldn't be able to switch to the day shift till 1998. Now to twist the knife: My mother laid a guilt trip on me because I *am* such a large part of my brother's life (since dad left) and from there left me to decide. While I fully expected this, I didn't appreciate it and hoped for more input on solutions to the matter from her. So the delimma boils down to this: I care deeply for my mother and my brother and want them to be happy and not have to worry about anything yet, I really want to move out (what 18 year old doesn't) and see if my friend and I can make it work out. Possible solution number one: I help out my friend by paying half of the deposit to secure the place and stay at home until suitable arrangements can be made. How long would this take?? I don't know. Possible solution number two: My brother stays with me during the night and my mother picks him up when she gets off work in the morning. Possible solution number three: Mom rents out the room and gets someone there at night which frees me up and everyone is semi-happy. Conclusion: As you can see... I'm trying to spread my wings within a cage and it's not working. I'm torn between my love and devotion for my family and the insatiable desire to strike out on my own. Any help/thought/suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks for your time. Chris "I was born for this???" Pavek #!/bin/perl -sp0777i Subject: Re: WWSYS import? There are a lot of singers that manage to chart ONE song that makes the top 5 on SOME charts. In this industry as it stands today Jewel's impact has thus far been relatively small. YWMFM is rapidly rising but it needs more of our help. Alanis has been a bif hiter with six different songs over the past fifteen months all from one album. Think abot it. Last I check she sold eleven million copies and that was a long time ago. longevity wise Jewel just can't compete with her yet. > Um, excuse me? Mediocre? Jewel? Hell (if i > remember correctly) Alanis' Album "Jagged little pill" came out in 1995, > Jewels Album came out in 1994! Wouldnt that mean that Alanis is following > Jewel? No, it wouldn't. Jewel's hit single "Who Will Save Your Soul" charted second on a variety of charts. It chart first on none that I know of. Even upon her biggest moment in the sun to date, Jewel was second to Alanis. Quality wise(in my opinion) Alanis is a joke with the mentallity of a five year old. But VERY SIMPLE is the way to be when trying to relate to a mass of idiots(the american public as a whole). We need those handful of people who have been ignopring these posts, you know who you are, to pick up there phone and request YWMFM even if it's only once on one favorite station. Please make that one call and say "Merry Chrismas, Jewel!" Let me review some important parts of this for newbies. First of all the purpose of these posts is to encourage angels to call their local radio stations and request YWMFM in order to help Jewel get the airtime she deserves. It is important not to disclose ourselves as EDAs or fans of Jewel in anyway. We are fans of music. We want to appear to the radio stations as a random sample of the general public so that they think that YWMFM is what the people want to hear. The reason I specify this is because a while back Mike suggested that we flood the VH1 webpage with requests for YWMFM and more then half of us disclosed ourselves as EDAs. People are going to take that real seriously(sarcastically). Please help our friend get the airtime she deserves to continue to live her dream. To you it's two minutes and fifty cents, to her it's a new world, so please call as many radio stations as you can. If you are calling radio station out of your local area; dial *67 before calling, then when they hit caller ID, the word private will appear so they don't know where you calling from. I know there are several official promos of her, but was wondering if there are any companies that have things like this. In particular, I'm looking for the pic of her sitting in the back of her van, and the one of her leaning over a balcony. I doubt the originals of these would be available to just anyone, but if anyone knows of a place that sells pics of various artists (that "may" have Jewel pics), please contact me. It's allright. It has some cool songs done by great groups. The Jewel song is really good and so is the 7 Mary 3 song. Some of the songs are "eh" but over all it's allright, and if it has Jewel, it can't be that bad.
