After the Thursday night show, A few of us were standing there waiting for Jewel to come out. Lauren, I believe, was standing there with me. Anyway, Jewel came out...but she came out on the arm of Michel. We decided to give them their privacy, without even thinking, because that is just common courtesy. When they were done snuggling/conversing or whatever they were doing, Michel left. That is when we decided to approach Jewel. The first thing that she said to us was, "Thanks for waiting," with a big smile on her face. Respecting a person's privacy, whether or not they are a celebrity, is just common courtesy IMHO!! The bootleg came in a clear case so the back card has art on 2 sides. whenbck1 is the art on the inside of the card that's under the cd. whenbck2 is the art on the rear of the cd that you see when you turn it over on it's front. Also Whenbck2 also has the little side bars included that you see on the side of the CD. Send me any opinions on the scans. I tried to make them as clear as possible. I have to catch a plane to London tomorrow early, and I'm not even close to being ready for this *business* trip, so all of the Jewel fans on this list will have to wait until next weekend at the earliest for the details, which I promise I WILL post, because there is interesting content here. For now, I'll just say that I am about 3 days behind in reading the list postings, so if I repeat something already stated, *I'm Sorry* [sometimes it be that way]. Our ubiquitous show horse made it to KROQ, despite the fact that nobody on the list knew (or shared) whether she was too sick to play yesterday (she was) or well enough to out-Grrrl the Grrrls of KROQ today (she was). She gave a stellar rendition of *Foolish Games*; her set was too short, the crowd loved her, the Tori fans were way louder, noone shouted out requests (except me: for Deep Water), although she wasn't taking any requests (this show was played pretty MOR, for the Hollywood crowd that gets to vote on music awards, etc. Jewel more than held her own vis-a-vis the other talent (most of which was also great). However, it was clear to me (maybe just to me?) that she was suffering. No between song patter, just coughing (which she tried to suppress; she wasn't after any sympathy applause, and didn't need any). She may have left right after her relatively early set; she was not around for the encore, although Natalie Merchant twice specifically called out for her to come out Details about the rest of the show and the week's Jewel-related content will just have to wait 'till I get back. We absolutely need a full-blown Jewel concert. Soon. Hi angels, I was just watching VH1's Legends special, where they were showing a 1970's recording of James Taylor performing live for BBC. The beauty of his music and voice brought a lump to my throat. Now for the JC: As the lump swelled in my throat, I wondered where I remembered that feeling from. And then I realized: Jewel makes me feel like that. And the more I thought about it, the more similar Jewel and James Taylor are, at least to me. They both use acoustic guitars. They both have unique, powerful voices. Both musicians' songs are filled with feeling, emotion, stories. And I love both musicians. I'm sure you could find more similarities, and more-comparable musicians. I was just wondering if anyone else saw this similarity. BTW, are they both classified as "folk"? Because I know Jewel hates that label, and I'm not sure what Taylor is classified as ("rock"?). Response to a couple other threads: - -- Mr. BB is obviously widely appreciated and valued, and I'm sure if we 99% continue to be worthy angels, he'll de-lurk and continue with his wonderful posts. Much love, Alan! - -- Rene Zellweger (from the movie "Jerry Maguire") is very pretty (loved her in Empire Records), and looks very much like Jewel. My 3-year-old daughter, Chloe, saw an ad for Jerry Maguire with Zellweger and said, "Hey, there's Jewel!" You know, at least they could go to the work of getting little know pictures. But NO! They have to use old promo matirial. >http://www.ucet.ufl.edu/~rbranst3/when/whencvr2.jpg Wow! Not only are they stealing from Jewel and Atlantic, but now it seems they'r stealing articals from magazines too. I've read that one before, I was almost amusing to see it there, made me think of when I was in elemetry school and I usta copy outta the encyclpoyda... >http://www.ucet.ufl.edu/~rbranst3/when/whencvr4.jpg Hmmmmm. Havn't seen this pic yet, I don't think. Ok, I could be wrong (even tho Jewel said it) but isn't it suppose to be "(never trust your pink fleshy heart to a) Carnivore"? I take that as a big insult. >http://www.ucet.ufl.edu/~rbranst3/when/whenbck1.jpg Oh look, a string of Jewels at the left side.. uh huhuh uh huh ohhhhhhh.... >http://www.ucet.ufl.edu/~rbranst3/when/whenbck2.jpg AHHHHHHHHHH!!! What is up with that pic? The was the fuzzyness is on it, it makes her look like a bald porcilen dool. Kinda reminded me of something from a Tool video (and those things always scare me :]). > >Thanks, >Roger >(askew on irc) > Overall I have to say that THESE people are true criminals. That didn't even look like a convencing CD. They use promo shots that have been used on other Jewel stuff, they make a pun with those jewels, and then screw up the title of Carnivore. Whata shame. But I do have to say that it looks like a great concert. - -Ashe (ignor the typos) Mayfair ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 14 Dec 1996 13:05:24 -0500 From: Greg Dunn Subject: Re: How old is Jewel? The first thing that she said to us >was, "Thanks for waiting," with a big smile on her face. It was you, me, and Lauren, Liz. I remember that. We were all so twitchy, afraid that she'd leave with him on the 'cycle, that we weren't sure we'd have a chance to thank her for the performance. Luckily, she knew we were all hoping to schmooze with her, and like the trouper she is Jewel stayed for us. I remember one other cool thing; when we were chatting with her and getting stuff signed, we all hung back about 3-4 feet, giving her some space. She turned to one of us and said, "I can't believe how polite you all are, standing back like this; I'm so used to people crowding me, trying to kiss me and stuff..." There was a pause, so I opened my trap and said, "That's because you're an inspiration to us!" She looked up and blushed a little... I had been thinking of posing wth my arm around her for the picture, but I changed my mind at that point. She did lean against me, though. :-) - -- | Greg Dunn | if i was twice the man i could | | GregDunn@aol.com | be... i'd still be half of what | | gregdunn@indy.net | you need. | | http://members.aol.com/gregdunn | Trent Reznor | ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 14 Dec 1996 13:37:14 -0500 From: Mike Schaeffer Subject: Re: When You Smile Bootleg CD Scans Ashe Mayfair wrote: > >http://www.ucet.ufl.edu/~rbranst3/when/whencvr4.jpg > > Hmmmmm. I remember it well because seeing that article was the first time I had ever heard of Jewel. OK-Jewel content- This was in our local paper, wirtten by Mike Zitz "Jewel and the Wallflowers teamed up to steal the show from Sheryl Crow Sunday night at the WHFS Xmas Nutcracker Concert at the Patriot Center. Jewel, who'd performed an earlier set in the five hour show, surprised the crowd by joining Jakob Dylan in singing "6th Avenue Heartache," and she did one verse solo. (snip) Earlier, Jewel had done a harder edged version of her hit WWSYS-This one backed by her new band. She also performed her new single"YWMFM. When one girl in the crowd shouted, "We love you, Jewel,"she responded,"I love you, too" (snip) Anyway--thought it was cool that the article had a lot of Jewel content in a short article. BTW--the duet really did steal the show. There was no one in their seats. Take Care, Patric ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 14 Dec 1996 14:51:49 -0600 From: "James H.
