Especially someone like her who writes about love, lost and gained, heartbreak, and other emotions. Look at the Tunnel of Love album by Springsteen, almost every song is an embittered, lonely ballad with scathingly hurt or hurtful lyrics. It is not coincidental that this album came out right after his divorse with actress with Michelle Phillips. So, although it may seem base and shallow, being curious about what her love life is like is actually kinda relevant and deep. Later, Sean Hooks "Now look at me baby Struggling to do everything right And then it all falls apart When out go the lights I'm just a lonely pilgrim I walk this world in wealth I wanna know if it's you I don't trust 'Cause I damn sure don't trust myself" - -Bruce, "Brilliant Disguise," off Tunnel, Jewel should cover it, it'd be great in a woman's voice, 'specially hers. I love Jewel too, and forgive me for saying so but you seem just a tad bit OBSESSED. What is wrong with R&B? Just cuz it's not your cup of tea doesn't mean it sucks, as Thirza so eloquently put it. I love jewel's music too, but first of all, even if you met her, you don't KNOW her, so you can't love her the way so many of you claim to. For god's sake, she's a person, not an object that you can all fight over. Accept that even of jewel sings your requests at concerts and take pictures with you that you are really not a big part of life. she loves her fans but there are more fans than just the EDA's. She doesn't know who 99.9% of you are!!! And although most of you will try to deny it and claim that you really do know her, your obsession with her is just as superficial as teenyboppers who think that they "loved" the New Kids on the Block years ago, and don't think that it's not just because Jewel is obviously a different genre. Toni Braxton kicked ass on the awards show and i'm not surprised that most EDA's thought the show sucked because apparantly anything that is not "alternative" or Jewel, herself, has to suck, or you sound like a mainstream sellout. But to me, music is all about different sounds and different styles and while yeah, maybe jewel is a better writer than LL Cool J, I love to dance, and Jewel doesn't get my ass shakin', just as LL Cool J's words don't move me to tears like jewel can. But back to Toni Braxton, mainstream or not, she can sing--at least as well as Jewel. And she writes a lot or her material, so you can't knock her for that either. Even Mariah Carey--yeah, i think she's a superficial bimbo. I think she is a product of the Sony corporation and she is nowhere as gifted as a writer as Jewel is-- not even in the same category. But take all of that away from her and she can still sing her ass off. the girl has got a voice and no one can deny that. i like listening to her songs, not for their incredible depth or thought provoking lyrics, but because her voice amazes me, and who the hell said that every song you listen to has to be profound? Sometimes its just fun to relax and take a song for what it is--mariah is not trying to be jewel, nor is toni braxton or Monica, who can also sing great if any of you would be willing to give her CD a try, but the point is that doesn't make them less talented--just different. no hard feelings--just open your minds before you open your mouths. p.s. i bet all of you secretly sing along to mariah and whitney in your cars..... ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 5 Dec 1996 20:09:21 -0500 From: "Don" Subject: Public Bootleg Thanks I just recieved my latest Jewel Tape "I swear to god it won't happen again" and naturally its great. The group will meet at 7:00 pm for dinner followed by (hopefully) seeing/talking with Jewel as she goes into the Hard Rock Cafe to perform at the KISS 108 concert (that most of us didn't win tickets to!) See you there. Chris ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 5 Dec 1996 23:23:25 -0500 From: W1GGY2@aol.com Subject: Re: Dean Harris on air? >>Amy, We sorta love who??? I don't know no Dennis. The Jingle Ball is only seven days away! I wish it would hurry up and get here. I have 1 ticket left for the show. I bought 6 (2 for me & my wife), 2 for Igor(the coolest(and only) EDA I have ever met), and 1 for Larry. If any Angel wants one let me know. Also, it would be very cool if everybody who is going could get togehter before the show. There are so many great bars and restaurants downtown. I'm sure we could find a place to meet. If anybody is interested email me and let me know. -Joe ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 5 Dec 1996 22:57:39 -0600 (CST) From: "Tim Gavin, The only true paranormal of the Fu Sheng beaver." MIX gives out these tickets as parts of other prizes, whether the person getting the tickets want them or not. Also, some people are just choosing the performance they want based on the date it's convieniant. Someone said earlier that even people who aren't on the list should have consideration for "Everyday Angel"..... whatever that means to us individually, of course. The list is a good way to interact and talk, but it doesn't follow that we should be 'honored' for some reason as a result. From what I've derived, being a EDA is more a state of mind than anything else..... > "I dream that one day I'll have a stadium filled with Jewelfans, and > EVERYBODY WOULD JOIN HANDS and the politcal leaders of the world would > drop dead or something, and we'd sing in one voice:faggot faggot do you > hate him 'cause he's pieces of you" > -Jewel- [Fons smiles uncontrollably] Ya know, Jewel is one of the few people I've ever known who can be ruthless and megalomaniacal, yet inspirational and peaceful. I bet she said the above in the sweetest voice I've ever heard, too.... Too kewl. Anybody, back to the matter at hand. MIX is doing You pick the mix again. Fax in your 5 favorites songs and leave your name and phone # on the fax. Fax #: (713)297-0300 The prize is 5 pairs of tickets, and you have to drive down to the Station to pick it up. Lori Bradley will call you back if your mix is picked, and ask you for: Name, Address, Zip Code, Social Security #. I usually give everything but the SS#, since that's not a good idea generally anyway. She might ask for a birthday instead. And, wearing sweaters, leather jackets, and jeans is a hell of a lot better than walking around in sweaty T-shirts. On the radio this morning, I hear that the WTTS program director is attending a promotional thingie concerning winter sports stuff and some kind of raffle... and I think hey! I know this guy, and he's a Jewel fan. I'll make him an Angelfood tape for his enjoyment. Hopefully, it'll keep him thinking about Jewel as the new album nears. So, since I'm in town, I run over to the store where he's on a remote, and give him the 30-second EDA spiel; hand him the tape and briefly describe the contents (it's a compilation from a few non-JewelStock concerts I have on hand). The guy got to see Jewel in Colorado with about 40 other audience members last year, so he knows the real Jewel as much as any fan can. He looked happy about receiving the tape; I remind him it's an unofficially sanctioned tape, not for air play, sale or bootlegging. He understands completely; he knew nothing of our tape trees, but has dealt with the phenomenon before. I hinted strongly that he might recognize some of the tunes on the upcoming album, and it would be great if the station took advantage of any Atlantic promo CDs that came his way, and pumped up the advance interest. He talked about getting Jewel to play here again ASAP, and wanted the station to sponsor it. I think we have an ally here... :-) Oh yeah; I put my E-address on the J-card and identified myself as a member of the maiing list. If I hear from him, I'll be sure to let the list know! - -- | Greg Dunn | "There was never a moment you | | GregDunn@aol.com | ever got within a hundred | | gregdunn@indy.net | million miles of my soul." | | http://members.aol.com/gregdunn/ | Patty Griffin | ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 5 Dec 1996 22:21:41 -0600 From: Lehmann Subject: YWMFM on the radio....
