Actually, it means that your basic (natural, not learned) ability to do things with this hand or that hand is equal. For example, had I known of my ambidextrousity at a younger age, I could have learned to write equally well with both hands. However, as this quality was only diagnosed at the age of ten, my right hand already became accustomed to the requirments of this action (writing), and will, as a result, always be my prefered hand when writing. On the other hand, when I type on my keyboard, I use both hands equally. Therefor, I am ambidextrous, but when it comes to writing, I am preferref right handed. 42, Tuff - TIE ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 04 Dec 1996 19:33:27 -0400 (EDT) From: Leave the shadows dancing Subject: Hey.. Bad: I am now cursed by a Kilcher Concert Barrier, perhaps a consequence = of mucking with my priorities. Case in point: the KROQ concert, which = seems to be made up of half my CD collection. I labored to see this, = but since my net worth is preceded by a minus sign and followed by = numerous significant digits, I thought I'd make due with the San = Francisco Live 105 show at the Palace of Edible Bovines. I think I remember Miss Carroll commenting on MTV's = unwillingness to play it until it "caught on." Well, MTV finally = started playing it, so I guess Jewel has officially disqualified herself = from the One-Hit Wonder category. Muy excelente. I feel like I'm some guy asking the government where Area = 51 is: "You'd better stop wondering about that if you know what's good = for you ..." The truth is out there. Since when have I written a message without talking about myself? Here = are other Cartesian tidbits: + Christine suffered her biannual breakdown. Broken fuel line this = time. The "Fahrvergnugen Rolling Gasoline Bomb" nickname got a little = too precise. + Returned to a male haircut. Don't have the Jewelly locks no more. + Bought a black trenchcoat. Going for the FBI look, not goth. + Discovered a new favorite beverage: Goldschlager (umlaut not = included). + Met Harold Ramis. Nice, funny, and fat. I've been reading all these posts of EDAs meeting Jewel and I'm JEALOUS! Of course I'm happy for you for meeting our hero, but in my Jewel concert she didn't give fans the chance to meet her. I'm a lurking EDA who lives on Guam -- this is my first post to the list! - -- and since Jewel is probably not coming to Guam anytime soon, I had to fly a couple thousand miles to California to see her. My wife and I took a week's vacation with our daughter a couple months back to northern California, and drove three hours to the Fresno concert. We brought my cousin Dominic who was truly impressed with the concert. The concert was spectacular! It was like a dream. Afterward, I met a couple of EDAs -- Sinjin and one other whose name I forgot. That felt great (meeting them felt great, not forgetting the EDA's name). I recognized them and introduced myself because of their jewelstock T-shirts. Afterward, I was hoping to meet jewel because I'd heard so much about how she talks to the fans after concerts. She stayed in a fenced-off building for about 20 minutes and then rushed to her car and was driven off. I was SO DISAPPOINTED! The trip cost me $3,500 (top THAT for devotion!). But I'm sure she had a good reason -- a flight to meet, etc. -- and plus, the fans waiting for her were almost entirely teenyboppers, and I probably would want to drive off myself (kidding!). Anyway, hearing these stories of EDAs meeting jewel just brought back memories of the great concert and disappointments afterward. Also, while I'm posting finally, a couple things: I wanted to say that reading all your posts to the lists has been infinitely interesting and inspiring. My repeated calls to a local radio station has prompted them to put YWMFM into heavy rotation. And I missed the tape tree for the JS tapes. Would anyone be willing to tape a copy for me? PORTER" Subject: Jewel, Jewel, here there everywhere... This is reallly strange guys, but our good friend with the guitar seems to be slowly infiltrating ever aspect of my life. When I drive, I hear her music on Thunder 94 (Nashville) and I also hear this promo thing they're playing about her reading a quote by Ambrose Bierce. At least three or four of my friends have mentioned her too me, and I'm slowing converting them into the fold. Finally, Everytime I turn on the TV, I see a promo for a concert she'll be playing at, and awards show she'll be featured in, or a commercial that has her music or her saying something about soemthing. Thank God she's becoming more and more prevalent, it just makes me more and more sure that she won't just disappear into the ranks of those who have never made their mark. Jewel, Jewel, she's our....uh....girl... If she' can't do it....uh....well...whatever.... But she looked really great, my friend called me and was like wow that's the best I've ever seen Jewel look---Did she get her hair cut. That was so great the little story she added to the boring (suppose to be funny) thing they read off the moniter. I still think she should have performed which is what I thought or even better, won one, I say give her time, with the next album she might as well stay on stage she'll be getting so many awards. Wasn't she the best presenter though----wasn't she just the best! At least three or four of my friends have mentioned her too me, You live in a cooler city than I do. Birmingham's radio scene is dominated by country and wuss-pop stations, all oblivious to anything not recorded by the schlockmasters. Then again, maybe Nashville is trying to steal Jewel away from San Diego. After all, she's already recorded there for her new album and chose a pair of Nashville studios for the mixing chores on _Pieces Of You_. - -- Andrew "I'd move to Nashville, but Tennessee drivers are lousy" Vernon avernon@scott.net ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 4 Dec 1996 22:34:39 -0500 (EST) From: "(:spyflower:)" Subject: Teen Trauma Hey, For anyone who hasnt' seen it yet on MTV true tales of teen truma (with jewel as oen fo the ppl) just came on.. Oh. and did you notice they had a LOT more R&B and rappers there then Rockers? This Show sucked! The ONLY highlight was Jewels little "nyeh nyeh" (That should be my new quote) I mean i have heard people say that before But the way she said it was sooo cute (Then again Everything that jewels says comes of soundind cute, Even when she is cursing) Thirza "Future housewives of america" Pearl ;) nyeh nyeh ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 4 Dec 1996 21:57:03 -0600 (CST) From: "BRADLEY C. I swear that every single one of them are...hey wait a minute! I'm a........oh well. And actually I think Nashville radio is pretty blessed with a good variety and good playlists (although the DJ's, overall, don't fall into that category). We have agreat Jazz station (WMOT, where I used to work), and several different good rock stations. And of course, their greatest saving grace is that they breathe more than a word or two about the great goddess herself... Larson" Subject: JC: Jewel's Birth Place I was rereading some of the older posts and found mention of Jewel being born in Payson, Utah (I lost the reference, sorry). Does anyone know if that's correct or not? The reason I ask is that I live about ten miles from Payson, probably been there a hundred times. If Jewel was born in Payson, does anyone have more specific information (names, dates, ADDRESSES, that sort of thing)? I could easily go over to Payson and check out if the same house is standing (entirely possible in Payson, Utah) and take some photos. It would also be fun to see if I could find a birth announcment in the past issues of the local paper. In a change of subject, as a newcomer to Jewel fandom and to this list, I've seen a number of posts about tapes of Jewel songs and tape trees, etc. Would it be possible to set up a tape tree especially for newcomers, who missed the first go-round of Rare Angels, Interchange Days, and others? I, for one, would be willing to help with duplication, distribution, record keeping, or whatever. If I'm stepping on anyone's toes here, I apologize in advance, I just really love Jewel's songs and want to hear more of them. Thanks.
