Is it your mom's influence that is causing Gregg to go with this. And if Gregg truly feels the same as your mom did he really think we wouldn't hear about it. I am saddened by this post and feel Gregg and your mom have some explaining to do. On the other hand I can remember when I was a wee lad and just hated to go with my family on the holidays. With four brothers and a sister there were always times when my parents were glad to leave us home or hang with our friends. But hey if your mom and Gregg knew you intended to go then they really have flubbed up. Of course this is all from my point of view. I hope you guys work this out but no matter I think you're owed an apology. Your looks should have no bearing. I know I'll have a lot of people write that you have to look at it from everyone else's point of view that will be there and how they might be uncommfortable but hey, your mom and Greg could just say we're having our own turkey day at home. Another thing to think about during the holidays is your health care providers. If you get sick from your Thanksgiving Day meal, you can be rushed to a hospital. But what you put in your mouth can be more dangerous. If you chip or break your tooth, you may be in for a surprise. Try and find a dentist when you really need one. For your reading pleasure, lyrics to most of Jewel's amazing songs can be found on the following hidden page on Adams' AMAZING award winning, nationally recognized, "Pieces of Jewel" Website at: http://home.sprynet.com/sprynet/xenomorph/jlyric.htm I would recommend 'bookmarking' this page as it doesn't have a link FROM any of the other pages on his site due to the TURKEYS at Atlantic Records threatening Adam and other Webmasters with legal action for posting the lyrics. I recieved a few private EMAILs already this morning asking me if it was wise to post the URL to Adam's lyric page, considering that it is "hidden" due to Atlantic Records "turkeys" being bullies, as I explained in that earlier post. Adam regularly posts that URL to this list himself. The logic is that with this list being hard to "keep up with" the odds are Atlantic isn't going to pay someone to scan mailing lists (other artists lists for Atlantic Records artists too) for a silly lyric page or two. Adam & I discussed this at length via EMAILs when this all came down, and honestly feel they were just flexing their muscles and playing bully. First off... ( somewhere in your post ) you said: "Columbus wouldn't expect there would be people in the New World" Then went on to imply that Columbus was a fool for believing this. We have always believed ( 99.999% of us anyway ) that 'Earth is the only planet with life' That doesn't sound too unreasonable. If you think about it, Life is a VERY rare occurence. Not something that just happens. For us, it's 'There is no life on other planets.' For them, it was 'There is no life on other continents.' Even their line of thinking is not only not too far mistaken, but somewhat correct. The Native Americans didn't just 'begin to exist' in the exact same fashion as the rest of the humans. Their ancestors came from Russia, Siberia, Asia ( long before these names were even imagined ). There wasn't normal life on the Americas...( little to nothing was similar to Europe across the globe )... but humans had already travelled there. If you look at Australia, they were under similar circumstances as America. Only a bit more isolated, allowing the existance of mammals that have beaks and can lay eggs. America had cows that were REALLY big and hairy, that were named Buffalo. As for: "Europeans are evil nazis that slaughter everything in their path's" Do you still believe that the Indians were so giving as to allow the Europeans to have there land, and then the Europeans abused it. Well, I hope not. Things never started out that great when the Europeans came for a visit. In 1001, when Lief Erikson took a little boat ride to the New World, he was fascinated by the fragile land, and wanted to live there. But immediately when he started set up a camp...the Native Americans swarmed him with unprovoked attack, slaughtering near everyone there, and forcing him away. The Pilgrims were forced to set up camp in the outskirts of a Malaria-riden Swamp, yet were still not free from attack. None of this is to say: Europeans were nice, Native Americans were mean. Instead, I'm just saying: Times were tough on all ends back then. The Native Americans were just as mean as the Europeans ( and you better believe they were both VICIOUS ). But the European's knew that if they didn't bring _something_ back, some king or queen in their homeland would be more than willing to have the explorer's head separated from his shoulders, so to speak. For about 200 years, American's have learned about the Indians being unbelievably mean, and the Europeans being innocent. Now, for the past couple of decades, the American system of education has been trying to compensate by teaching all the students in middle-school that the Europeans were the Spawn of Hell. If we truly want to compensate, let's just get to the heart of the matter, times were tough, and I, for one, most certaintly would not have wanted to live in the 15th and 16th centuries. THIS IS NOT A FLAME. Don't treat it as one. First, I wanted to wish everyone a great holiday today and give a thanks to the many on this list who have made this an unforgettable year. No matter how long I keep up the website, or stay on this list, whether that winds up being days, months or years, I'll never forget the letters, the emails, phone calls, chats and person to person meetings that we've all shared in 1996. The igniter of this list was Jewel and her music but it took on a life of it's own. We owe our friendships and the countless hours spent on these angelic connections to Jewel. For that is one of the many things I'm thankful of today. LYRICS: On another note, I want to back Mike up and say that it is ok to post my lyric URL on this list. As he said, I post it every so often to remind or inform those that missed it. This is just to prove to a few of you that I don't mind that. It's maintained but I'm just keeping it unlinked from my website. If people aren't on this list, that's just their not-so- angelic-misfortune. CHRONO: I also want to invite everyone to check out the Jewel Chronology at Pieces of Jewel if you haven't lately. I spent a lot of time on an upgrade to it and want to make sure that someone sees it.(Hint: let the image load) Let me know what you think. I'll be working on some major enhancements and redesigns over the holidays to bring Pieces of Jewel into 1997 so YOUR INPUT is IMPORTANT to me. ARTICLES: I'm also going to try to make the site more legitimate so if you ever wanted to download and save those ARTICLES, do it soon. Actually, wait on that trouble. I'm going to reformat all the articles into plain text and collect them in a downloadable ZIP FILE for those that are interested. In the future, a few may dissappear if I don't get reprint permission. RELOCATION: As the site gets more advanced, in size and things I want to do with moving it into the future, I am looking into my options to relocate the site. My current location has been having too many technical problems of late. If anyone has any server suggestions, please let me know. Important things are Speed, Reliability, Cost and Space. I would like the option to get my own domain, if I should choose to. Thanks for reading. Happy Thanksgiving to all !! Ever lived with a shower that seemed to be limited to two options; either water that was cold enough to freeze Walt Disney solid or, if you moved the control a fraction of a milimetre, a resulting temperature that approximates bathing in molten lead? I lived with the audio equivalent in terms of my clock radio. Either the volume would be at a decibel level just slightly below that of a spider dancing on a sponge, or, if you so much as breathed on the volume control, you'd get a sound wave loud enough to bring down low flying aircraft. After living with this Hobson's choice for the last - oh, I don't know: eight years? - I finally persuaded myself to get a new clock radio, which has a built in cassette player that you can use instead of the conventional alarm. I subsequently put You Were Made for Me on a casette, and have been waking up to it all week, in a much happier frame of mind. The amusing part (okay, obviously amusing to me , not to you) is that when I wake up, at 6:00 a.m., it's to the lovely sound of Jewel's voice saying "I hear the clock, it's six a.m.", and at that moment, I am actually hearing the clock, and it is six a.m., and the clock is Jewel saying "I hear the clock, it's six a.m.". Well, you get the idea. It's kind of like a picture within a picture sort of thing. After a week, it's also kind of like a Groundhog Day kind of thing. And it really does make waking up at that unGodly hour a less horrific kind of thing! But mostly, however, as you were warned, it's an inane, silly kind of thing. Happy Thanksgiving to all you U.S. EDA's, and have a great late November day to everyone else! Gerry ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V1 #821 ***************************
