I just got off the phone with the D.J. and tried to get some info out of her but she wouldn't give it up. She said she wasn't allowed to say. I'm hoping that it goes on sale through Ticketmaster cause I might be able to get some tickets held for me without standing in line. I will try to get as many as possible so that maybe we can all sit together! That would be so cool. I will keep all of you posted. -Joe P.S. to Larry and Igor: I was at the Rugburns show last night and looked all over for you but I couldn't find you guys. I looked everywhere! I was really bummed. I was really looking forward to meeting some fellow EDA's. I looked for blue ribbons and purple bears and really ugly guys w/ beautiful redheads and found none. It's more into Heavier music as you'll see from the review. Be warned it's rather brutal. Jewel: "Who will save your soul" (Atlantic) One of the many vile aspects of Alanis Morissette's rise to prominence, possibly the worst is that she is directely responsible for the wave of atrocious female singer/songwriter types currentely engulfing us. Alisha's Attic, No Doubt, the curiously reinvented (but just as crap) Sheryl Crow, and now Jewel. And as if sounding like Alanis Morissette wasn't enough of a sticky wicket to begin with, "Who Will Save Your Soul" is entirely acoustic. Get thee behind me, Satan. This review is terrible apart from having false information of the time periods (i.e Sheryl Crow seems to apper after Alanis Morissette according to this) Plus I would hardly compare Jewel to Alanis musicly. We all know Jewel was also around before Alanis "broke-thru". Plus I happen to like Alisha's Attic, No Doubt etc.... Anyway I thought some people may get a laugh out of this (Maybe that's the wrong word) But you can hardly take this review seriously :-) That's about all from me for now. Mailing List Address Commands ~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~ jewel jewel-request@smoe.org subscribe unsubscribe jewel-digest jewel-digest-request@smoe.org subscribe unsubscribe jewel-news jewel-news-request@smoe.org subscribe unsubscribe It's very simple, to subscribe or unsubscribe to any of the lists, just send an EMAIL to the appropriate address, and put the appropraite command in the BODY of the EMAIL, NOT the 'subject'. If you have an EMAIL system (such as AOL) that requires something in the 'subject', put anything that pleases your lil' ol' heart. It will have no effect on your result. Within minutes of sending your EMAIL you should receive a message(s) from majordomo@smoe.org telling you of your success and if you subscribed you will also get a "welcome" message. I saw a new one advertised on TV yesterday, lots of stuff that I hadn't heard of, some that I had and didn't like and then they throw in Jewel's name at the end. Now there are one of two ways to react to this. 1)Great. Jewel is getting more exposure, even if it is in such a tacky way and hopefully all the people who buy it because Celine or someone is on there will go, 'wow is this cool Jewel person?' 2)how sad that she is viewed as being mainstream enough to make it onto such a shoddy compilation of music. I think I feel a little both ways. Helen ------------------------------ From: "Larry G." Date: Sun, 24 Nov 1996 17:40:03 -0800 Subject: NJC: EDA Gathering Talk about ethereal! The BEST people in the world are EDAs. It's confirmation of my theory that Jewel has been sent to us to bring to the world the message (in unexpected ways) that we are all connected. The Rugburns were a blast. EDA attendance included *the* Sinjin, *the* Igor, Igor's wife, Kathy, Eric Greske (spelling's off), my friend Linda (who is friends with Connie who made the cross Jewel wore on Rosie)(no, we didn't figure out our bacon #s), Eric's girlfriend who had no idea that her boyfriend of 3 months was a Jewel fan, he only has a picture of her on his refrigerator, for goodness sake, and Fuzzy and of course Joe, who couldn't find us!?! Tom Morales and Nancy were supposed to be there, but???? I cannot overstate how exciting it is to get together with EDAs who share this passion. Sinjin is an enlightened being. Igor is, too. Eric didn't even discover this list until after Jewelstock, but he's seen Jewel fifteen (15!!) times, including the time she actually wore angel wings; he has seen her at time when as few as 6 people were in the audience. All of us had so much FUN talking about Jewel, and there will be EDA gatherings whenever Jewel plays. Igor wanted Sinjin to take Fuzzy for a walk around the bar to gather up any stray angels, but he was reluctant; he said that he got carded to get in, and he didn't want to risk another "are you over 16" encounter. When Sinjin reported that Jewelstock was the best weekend of his life, we all knew what he meant; it was the best weekend for many of us who weren't even there (on this plane, anyway). Eric's girlfriend was shocked by his obsession, but soon relented, and acknowledged that this was better than a prior boyfriend's obsession. Eric, email me if you wanna know what it is, maybe we can work out a trade? Linda and I had dinner at the Belly Up and sat in the booth next to the Rugburns. It would not have been polite for me to have eavesdropped on their conversation about Jewel and what Steve found in Jewel's closet and what he thought about that or about his contribution to YWMFM (which I have a theory about), or so I won't post anything. But, EDA gatherings are for sharing, so I hope everyone comes to the all the rest of them. It seems almost unreal that Jewel sang just for us all of the 60-or-so new songs she has written since going to Europe, and the stories! I can't believe all the things that happened to her in just 2 weeks! Paris will never be the same. We would be glad to share the stories with all EDAs who shared what they had heard about her tour (both of them). Jewel, of course, has made it clear that she cannot promise to appear at all of the EDA gatherings, so I want to state the following: This last paragraph is not ENTIRELY true. There's more, but I'll save it for a later post. Bye for now. Larry G ;-) ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V1 #812 ***************************
