It says, I DISCOVERED SEAN HOOKS. It was I that found this genius. A while ago he was frightened away, but I poked at him until he came out of the hole he was hiding in. He writes letters that make many of us angry. Angry is OK. He doesn't write letters that make us hate. He does his best to make us angry. How can you hate a guy like this. I know he stays up nights rewriting his letters until he gets them just right. He must start out something like this. "The list is getting boring. What can I do to shake a few angel feathers." Before he hits the send button, he is already laughing with anticipation. He knows exactly what kind of response his letter is going to get. Give him credit. After all the flaming missiles come in, he is always there to fire back. Many of his responses miss the target however. He has underestimated how many EDA's are his match. ------------------------------ From: Victor Igor Wasylczenko Date: Sat, 16 Nov 1996 19:40:32 -0800 Subject: NJC:Selena has been found As many of you know, I am well connected on the East Coast. Although I'm in San Diego, many of my EC friends are ready and willing to help when needed. With the best interest of the list in mind, I started to do a bit of background checking on Selena. Selena aka The Golden Goddess has been active on the list since shortly before JS. From her first public appearence at JS, I noticed a change starting to happen on the list. Many of the male readers seemed to be under some kind of spell of hers. I will have to admit that she almost had me spellbound as well. But I felt she was up to something and I was able to pull away from her grasp just in time. Many of my fellow EDA's have not been so lucky. It is only fair that I don't mention the ones that she has won over. But A few will have to be identified. Lets go back to New Hampshire. Do you remember how many people gathered for that event. It was even called JS III by some. This was where she started building her cult. So you think I don't read all the mail. Wrong! I read every last word. Didn't anyone notice how many people she brought to NH from all over the EC. She started by enticing many of the weak by wearing a bikini. Then she had them partake in a weird burial ritual. She had herself completely buried in the sand, seemingly helpless. One of the people at that event was Mr Dennis Harris. When is the last time we have heard from him. He was one of Selena's targets or is he one of her victims. Another person that has some of the same suspicions is Amy(W1GGY2). Didn't anyone read the letter that Amy sent, calling Selena a bitch. There was no public outcry. There was no response from Selena. She just didn't want to bring attention to herself. How many times has Amy been seen on the list since. The Temple concert was the first appearance of "the party van." This time she had her two goddesses-in-training, Liz and Shelley, with her. She started out with what first looked like a random act of kindness. She purchased a block of tickets for all who would contact her. My question is, where did all the money come from? She must be funded by a large organization. You may be asking why am I talking about her today. The reason is that Sean Hooks is reported missing. Since I am his manager, I have a vested interest in his welfare. You may have noticed Sean's recent fine work on the list. It is his job to create some activity on the list whenever the list gets too quite or dull. All the attention Sean's letters were getting must have angered Selena. I am here to report that my people have been able to spot the party van parked in front of a Barnes & Noble bookstore. Selena was heard asking a clerk to help her find Tropic of Cancer. She was wearing her tool belt. The tool belt made her look more like Sharon Stone in the movie that she played in as a western gunslinger. When my people looked into the van, they could only make out two persons. Sean was in the back, tied up and with a piece of duct tape across his mouth. Also spotted was Mike Connell. If any of you have ever seen Mike, he is like a big bear. A friendly big bear. As big as he is, he must have been the one to apprehend Sean. Word has it that Mike was convinced to help Selena because she promised Mike she would let him have Sean's phone book. That book is supposed to contain the numbers of all the girls that haven't developed a reading habit yet. Sean is too strong to give in without a fight. I just want to warn Selena that if anything happens to Sean, she may be playing another Sharon Stone role, the one she played in Last Dance. Last thing I heard was that she was heading west. I have already packed my notebook computer and I am going into hiding. When she hears that I made this public, I know I will be her next target. Any information anyone else has that can help, please send it to the list. It hepled me quite a bit. Make it part of the FAQ! as Dan suggests. >I know this went around a couple months ago, but here goes again. >Does anyone have any advice for taping shows? What kind of recorder, >microphone, etc? I'm sure there are knowledgable sources out there, and >if we get more tapes they can be tree'd. What precautions re: security >patdown? How do they react if they catch you? Looking to tape Jewel/Dylan. Most people use a Walkman-type recorder. Use a good quality tape. Walkmans are biased for normal, not high bias tape, but the machines don't have very good or flat frequency response to begin with, so I find a high-bias tape compensates for that and produces better results. Maxell XLII, TDK SA, Sony UX, etc. are good choices. Don't use metal-bias tape. Try to have an unobstructed path between you and the P.A. speaker, and point the microphone directly at a speaker, not necessarily the stage. The closer you are to the speaker, the better. I park myself directly in front of a speaker stack whenever possible, 6 feet away is great. At that distance you should aim the recorder high so it picks up the sound from the tweeters on top of the stack. Some recorders overload at such close range, but that's less of a problem with Jewel's acoustic style. All you can do is experiment. Use your best creativity to get the unit into the building. If they catch you at the door, you can try to tell them you hope to interview the artist after the show for your school newspaper or something. Once you're in, you probably won't have a problem, just be discrete. I got nabbed _once_, when a record rep spotted the LED Record light on my machine. I now cover that with a piece of electrical tape. Use new alkaline batteries if it's an important show. Make sure the tape is loaded in the right direction. Make sure your pause button is off when you start to record. Do a quick test before you go into the show. Wear a watch, and note the start time so you know when to flip the tape. Try to bring a 2nd tape in case the show runs long. These things all sound simplistic, but you'd be surprised how easy it is to screw one of them up. If you're shopping for an appropriate recorder, I like the quality of Aiwa. The Sonys I've seen overload easily. I've actually seen good results from a Radio Shack stereo unit. Radio Shack's stuff is inconsistent though, but they have a good return policy, so you can buy it and try it, and return it if it doesn't work out. If you're looking for pro quality, there are MiniDisc and DAT recorders on the market for $500+ that will give killer quality. Don't go for the microcassette machines, the quality sucks. An external mic is a nice option, but the built-in mic will usually do fine too. I use a stereo recorder. This isn't all that necessary since the sound at live shows is mixed in mono to begin with, but it can produce a better recording because the room reverberation and audience gets picked up in stereo, which recreates the scene a little better. Mic aiming becomes very critical if you're using a stereo recorder though. Hope that helps. If anyone wants to incorporate this into a FAQ, be my quest.
