First of all, I'm glad you disagree with me. Calling my posts inane may be pushing it but well, here's my response. Yes, I want Jewel to have one big hit, have comedians make fun of her, and then have her have another big hit ten years later, not five, Fast Car was '88, closer to ten than five. I heard "Possession" a year ago when my suitemate, who has her CDs and always plays them was tryin to convince me as to how good she was. It was the only song that stuck out to me. I haven't heard it on Z100 much, I only listen to the station in passing but that is just further proof, another example of how Z100 mainstreams legit artists. As for my desire for YWMFM to be played on WNEW. I want it played there not a year before Z100 plays it, I never want Z100 to play it. It is not mainstream music, far from it actually, I'm surprised Z100 is playing it, it's rather radio-unfriendly, like most of the Pieces of You album. Z100 takes legitimate, serious music, though YWMFM is one of my least favorite songs off the album, it's still very legitimate, and makes it sell-out commercial mainstream played out you change the station when it comes on because you're so sick of it song-ruining music. And for a better example than Tracy Chapman, take Tori Amos. They basically never play her on Z100, and only laste late at night on MTV and VH1, and the songs get played or the videos get played for a while on Z100(Caught A Lite Sneeze) and MTV(CaLS and Talula) and then they disappear. That is what I would like to see from Jewel. Tori still gets a lot of acclaim, has lots of deidcated fans, but would never do a show like the Jingle Ball or try to sell herself on one song or her looks. And don't say that the artist has no choice in those matters, that it's all the record company, Tori's on Atlantic, so is Jewel. They are being marketed very differently however despite the fact that Boys For Pele is about ten times more radio friendly than Pieces of You! Sorry, I didn't know Shawn Colvin would be there, she is a respectable, legitmate, individualistic artist. So No Doubt has undergone some hardship, that doesn't make them a good band. You really think they know "Leaving Las Vegas" and "Fast Car"??? They were played on Z100 a long time ago. Kids these days don't seem to have very long memories. Well, I'll give you that one if you want though, a lot of people do know them. I love men. I am one. I'm straight too. I'm not exactly looking at the base player when Jewel is singing either but that's not because I'm objectifing her or staring at her but because her inner beauty comingles so well with her outer beauty and her message when she is performing. And true, I can't predict the future of Andreone's and Rothberg's careers but I'd bet dollars to donuts that they don't have much success, commercial or otherwise, in the future. Oh, and the lead singer from the Bangles? Is she gonna bring Amy Mann and Cyndi Lauper and Samantha Fox out for a version of "Hazy Shade of Winter?" And lastly, I take you as a challenge, an intelligent person who at least disagrees with me vehemently but intelligently, unlike many people who are unsettled by my post and basically just respond by calling me an asshole. Oh, and speaking of asshole, the Tradewinds tape was totally uncalled for. If you've been reading this list you know I've been trying to get my hands on a tape of that show for months ya' jerk-off. I'm one of the selfish Jewel fans who wants her to myself and despises her popularity but you have a tape that you know other people want but refuse to mke copies for other people...or maybe just for me 'cause you prob'ly hate my guts. Oh well. By the way, you were at the Tracewinds? You from Jersey? Maybe we could meet for a drink at a Jersey shore bar sometime, kinda like Deniro and Pacino in that scene in Heat. Complete opposites but they recognize each other's point of few. I get to be DeNiro though. That is a nice thought and all but are you sad everyday when thousands of people are dying. Do you sit there and cry because there is so much pain in the world. I know I would care more if it was Jewel who died in the crash and even more so if it was a personal friend than someone I have no personal connection to. I don't think that makes me a bad person. I wish I could find a better word to describe it. I'm still absolutely speechless. Not even a dead battery in a sub-zero parking lot could faze me. It was perhaps the greatest thing I have ever witnessed (sports events not withstanding). Jewelstock was fantastic, but this, this just blew me away. He opened up with The River for god's sake! I was completely mezmerized, I couldn't take my eyes off the stage or hear anything but his voice and guitar. Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim was sitting six rows ahead of me, but when Bruce came on it was as if ol Jimbo ceased to exist. His repor with the crowd, the stories he told, the way he reworked songs like "Adam Raised a Cain" "Born in the USA" and "The Promised Land." It was all so unreal. My only regret is that I never got to see him early in his career with the band. I think this is where Jewel comes in to all this. I see a lot of Bruce in her (physical appearance aside. Many of their views on the role of beauty and innocence in the outside world seem to intertwine. The way each can yammer with the crowd yet still entrance you with their words and music is also very similar. The main difference, for me anyways, is that I am getting to see Jewel as she grows and as she progresses. Also, the fact that she is a lot closer in age to me makes a lot of what she says more relevant to me. If only she was from Jersey! But Bruce has always been like this big hero and idol to me. I remember my mom getting me the Dancing in the Dark single when I was like 6 or 7, and just playing it over and over again. Trying to look like him by wearing white t-shirts all the time. I think that same 6-year-old kid came to the show with me last night, and was ecstatic about what he saw. Tickets on sale Wednesday, November 13, 1996 at 5:00 p.m. at the Arena Box Office The box office will be open until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday and WERZ will be braodcasting live from the Whittemore Center. Tickets are $15.00 & $10.00 I'm not sure what the mumbo-jumbo on the box office being open until 8 on Wednesday is for. I was thinking maybe it was a one shot deal -- it was open for three hours and then it disintegrated or something. But that wouldn't make sense. So I called the Box Office and as of a few minutes ago they still had tickets. She confirmed that the three above performers would be there. You can get tickets right at the box office (kind of difficult if you're not near by, but hey) and by calling TicketMaster. I can get the numbers for the ones near here, and I know that the Box Office recording has them as well (along with more information on ticket stuff)... that number is (603) 862-4000 I guess that's about it.
