Are they too "low" for her? What is up with this? Why not share the beauty in her music with others. Even if they don't appreciate it, exposure is a good thing. Just because we may have to deal with seeing Jewel in big venues does not mean we should be selfish and wish for her to be unsuccessful. I believe that she deserves whatever she wants in the music industry. We should not be trying to hold her back and wishing her less. What's with "That is wrong of you." Everyone has their opinion. Most things are not black and white. Just because you believe something does not mean everyone who disagrees is "wrong." If she (or any other artist for that matter) gets bloated on the fact that they're enourmously successful, then they don't deserve to be there in the first place. Jewel doesn't seem like that. In any case.. give everyone some slack.. you're not the only one with an opinion. Gerrit Casey wrote: :> What's wrong with everyone. Why do you all want Jewel to be such an enormous :> success? I object to the use of the phrase "abuse of freedom of speech". Right now in this country, to give just one example, there is a man named Mike Diana who was tried for obscenity for publishing a comic book that was only sold to adults and NEVER in the state that tried him. The comic had some mutilation and child abuse within the context of a story and California police alerted Florida police who then arrested him for murders he didn't commit that had occurred several hundred miles from his home. Mr. Diana was then given a several year prison sentence. The only reason he is out right now is that he has undergone psychiatric evaluation at his own expense and he is not allowed outside of a certain area. His house can also be searched at any time by the local police and ANY drawings that he creates are to be taken from him. He is not allowed to create anything, even for himself. And furthermore he is not allowed within several hundred feet of any person under the age of 18. I, for one, think this is disgusting and terrifying. As of now I tend to agree with the pro-Foolish Games people. Anyways, they had their inane AOL chat gateway occupying half the screen. I glanced at it a couple of times throughout the course of the video, and caught something that rather dissappointed me. I can't remember who the person who said it was, and it read, not surprisingly, in all capitals "I LOVE WHO WILL SAVE YOUR SOUL IT IS HER BEST SONG." Now, don't get me wrong, I love all of Jewel's songs, but those heard 100s of times tend to fall slightly out of favor, and, besides that, there are songs *WAAY* better than WWSYS! Apparently whoever said this doesn't even own POY and is likely just an AOL neophyte/trendy or something (I use "neophyte" because of the capital letters and "trendy" for saying WWSYS being the best song she ever wrote.) However, I feel I have to add my two cents to this issue. I can defend and add additional comments to some of what Hansen said. Artists range from Billy Joel & Madonna (I cringe at calling her an 'artist'), who are in bed with the record producers to make money on records to Neil Young , who couldn't give a f*** about selling a record. All these artists have pressure to sell music. How could it not have an impact on their work? Did you ever wonder why YWMFM was remixed/recorded as a single? Perhaps to make it more palatable to the kind of fan Hansen is disdainfully talking about. What was wrong with the CD version? I can imagine some record company clown counting the extra sales caused by the remix. Are additional sales good for Jewel? Obviously. But, it that the version she would have wanted? Did you ever wonder what Jewel's take is on her sales? Since she is a relatively new artist, I would bet it's less than 15%. She is getting just a small part of the total take while having to submit to music manipulation and crass marketing at shows like GMA. (I don't claim to know how Jewel herself feels about these issues; however, do you really think she prefers GMA to a small club?) However, Jewel does have to eat and no doubt enjoys the popularity. I am happy that her dream has come true and I do want her to be successful. But, in order to be successful in this business you have to please fans who will never know who the real Jewel is or how she got started. - -mike On Wed, 13 Nov 1996, Pat Brown wrote: > > On Tue, 12 Nov 96 13:01:30 UT "CASEY HANSEN" > writes: > >tickets.
