Hi everyone! Thanks for being patient with me and my problems recently. I was expecting a series of "bombs" to come my way through the email. My problem this time was that someone broke into my account and was hiding alot of "suspicious" data in it, and Netcom had to cancel my account. The only problem is that they forgot to tell me, and it wasn't until a few minutes again that I was able to re-register. So now I'm back but I have a new address: SDF4@ix.netcom.com The SDF stands for Super Dimension Fortress.... pretty cool huh? I know that we have a SDF angel on the list..... but this has a different meaning. As for the other 3 SDF's ... they were destroyed when the Robotech masters, and Invid came. O well.... Don't think we have heard much from any, if they do exist. Anyway, I was driving from Arizona to California for the last time on Saturday and while in the Phoenix area, or the Valley of the Sun as I guess it's called, they played YWMFM on KZZP 104.7! Quite a surprise, considering that I don't think I have ever heard Jewel on radio stations in Tucson, with the exception of syndicated countdown shows. HOWEVER, what pissed me off was the DUMBASS DJ who after the song said, "There's the new one from Jewel called 'You Were Meant For Me', off the 'Who Will Save Your Soul' album." If not for his rather ignorant remark, I might have kept listening to that station. Then when we passed through the Palm Springs area, they played WWSYS on Power 100.5, but the song before it was some c-rap, I think Bone Thugs n Harmony or something. I thought that was kinda..well..you decide. - -Neal, who a) is no longer a part-time AZ resident, and b) would have a crapload of money if everybody's $.02, .002, or .0002 on country were in coins neal77@juno.com ------------------------------ From: wrdavis@ite.net (Katherine Davis) Date: Sun, 10 Nov 1996 18:09:03 -0800 Subject: NJC for everyone to read Hey man, I don't think that "KKK-of-the-EDA" thing was appropriate. I voted on the Nazi Usenet thing. My vote was no. Although I believe in the freedom of expression and choice, I also believe in human rights and equality. The beliefs of ANY racial supremacy group disgusts me. Just because I might have slanted eyes or yellow skin does NOT made me any inferior to YOU (not you EDAs, but racial supremacists). I know that the Constitution guarantees the freedom of speech to all. But one can consider the Usenet to be a Democracy if everyone on there can have a vote as to what they want on there. This could be applied to Prop.209 which recently passed here in California. More people wanted it passed than opposed it. I might not be happy with the results, but I have to live with it. So it's the denizens on the Usenet which has a final say on the content they want on there. I hope you understand my logic. Yes, freedom of speech is very important, but we have to really think of what's going on. By allowing neo-nazis to talk about things they think are important, we are allowing them to openly make their stands, brainwash those who are too innocent to understand what they really are, and organize their campaign against Democracy! I'm not kidding - it may seem like something that would never happen, but so was WWII! With all it's benefits, our system of government has one major flaw - it is very vulnerable to inside pressure. We must therefor defend ourselves against these enemies of our freedom, even at the cost of some of their, and even our, freedom. Living in a democracy doesn't mean you're free to do what you want, it means you are free to do what you want _so long as it doesn't hurt anyone_. This means that noone has the right to say the things these fiends say about me, or about anyone else, just because I'm Jewish, or they're black, or yellow, or red, or pink, or even purple with green spots. Anyone who has been insulting or patronizing has not done it intentionally. Anything said, as the group gets larger, begins to get construed many different ways. Not everyone can convey their thought as well as professional writers. IMO Igor was one of the few who could and he still was found abrasive by many. When I first joined the list, and even now, people misunderstood the intent of my messages. The one thing I've gotten from this list is that the people who are on this list care for each and every person who signs on to this list. Jewel is only the conduit. I have yet to read a message from any selfserving, patronizing, egocentric EDA. This is pretty self evident by all the available tapes, espescially to newbies. Maybe JS tapes are harder to come by but maybe it is because of the tight regulations on them when they were treed and the hopes that someday if we play our cards right JS may happen again. ------------------------------ From: "Sean P. Rader" Date: Sun, 10 Nov 1996 11:23:12 -0600 (CST) Subject: dreams, autographs, and Race Car Driver Hi there! I don't post much, so you probably don't know me. But I might as well say a few things because a lot of Jewel-related stuff has happened to me in the last few days. Anyway, two days ago, I had a dream about Jewel. She was playing a show at my school, and she decided that she didn't do a good enough job the first time. So, she came back the next day, and she was playing trombones and stuff, too. It was pretty neat. Also, I was at a radio station on Friday, 'cause I was on the Breakfast Club (which is the morning show), and I saw a couple of posters from an Earth Day Festival that Jewel had played at a few years ago. So, I picked one of them up, and saw that Jewel's autograph (as well as several others) was on there! So, I asked Kevin Howard (the really nice morning DJ guy) if I could have it, and he said yes as long as nobody saw me take it out. :) So, I'm happy now. At least, I'm pretty sure it's her autograph. Could someone describe it to me so I can make sure? Or does anyone have a scanned copy? And then, this morning, I was listening to the radio and I heard _Race Car Driver_! It wasn't a very good version of it, in my opinion. Of course, I only have two live versions to compare it to, but I still didn't find it as enjoyable as those. The DJ said that it was on some CD put out by Atlantic, but my brother was talking so I couldn't hear what the CD was. Does anyone know? This has probably already been discussed, but I don't have time to read twenty million digests a day. :) And it was by request, too! That means that there are at least two Jewel fans in this horrid town! Anyway, that's all I have to say. If anyone wants to trade bootlegs (which is, of course, not illegal), then e-mail me. I have 3 by Jewel and a bunch by other bands (Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Marry Me Jane, et cetera). Peace, Love, Chocolate! Sean Rader ------------------------------ From: Mike Connell Date: Sun, 10 Nov 1996 12:35:27 -0500 Subject: USA Weekend comes thru and prints my Jewel question...even though it is a paltry answer EDAs, Well, the USA Weekend column came thru today and printed my rebuttal question referring to their error filled response to a question posed in September. For those of you that may not know, the USA Weekend is a supplement to Sunday newspapers that is quite similar to the Parade magazine many of you get in your Sunday paper. In September the following question & answer was posed: Q: Jewel, the singer-songwriter whose debut album, Pieces of You, is climbing the charts, finally is getting some attention. Tell me more about her. Is she seeing anyone? A: Once loosely linked to Sean Penn (before he married Robin Wright), Jewel, 22, has no beau at present. Born Jewel Kirchner in an Alaska town of 4,000, she knows the meaning of the word "hardship". She once lived in a broken-down van. Now even Chelsea Clinton sees her in concert (as she did in Chicago during the Democratic convention). I wrote them and pointed out the obvious mistake in her last name. I also mentioned that (as far as this list knows), she was still involved with Michel (the fortunate French-Canadian). I even told them to PLEASE cool it with the OLD, VERY OLD ridiculous crap about Sean Penn and to please concentrate on her music and PRESENT career, not two-year old stuff about Penn. The columns' author, Lorrie Lynch, & I then traded many EMAILs. She agreed that her informational sources (Atlantic Records rep & the Washington Post) provided her with erroneous info. I told her how to contact Jewel people (Hiranya), but wouldn't ya know it, at that moment Hiranya goes on vacation since Jewel & Lenedra had left the country. Not being able to confirm a d*mn thing I had told her (except the last name), she asked me to pose a question to her relating to the name, and to ask her about a new CD by Jewel. (I had told her it WAS due in January, but now is delayed until March) By the way, I also told her a bit about Jewel's interesting history & led her to some the Jewel web pages by EDAs(!!), and she agreed that it's all an interesting story, and she said she may pose it to her superiors for a possible feature article. Anyway, todays' Q&A in the USA Weekend: Q: In a recent response to a question on Jewel, the rising singer-songwriter, you got her last name wrong. Please set the record straight. Also, any news on a follow-up to her current hit album, "Pieces of You"? -Mike Connell, Binghamton, NY (via AOL) A: Jewel's last name is Kilcher, although she generally goes by first name alone. The folks at her label, Atlantic Records, say only that she's working on a new album; no official release date has been set. Just to clarify this since it seems to have piqued a lot of peoples interest...This vote was for the creation of rec. group, which unlike alt. groups require a vote. It occured quite a while ago (i think about 6 months) and was strongly defeated in what was by far the most votes ever cast for the creation of a Usenet group. There were over 30,000 no votes to I think around 100 yes votes. Anyways, because of messages like the one sent out to the list, there were a lot of complaints about improper procedures (it's not considered "legal" to send messages to people telling them to vote for/against a newsgroup without including the entire CFV with it), but the decision stood. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Aleph Godol And I know you're watching everything I do Mordechai Analevich AZA #156 Call me threat to your children, Allentown, PA Call me socially unglued, Central Region East Call me master of insanity, Aleph Zadik Aleph Unable to relate, Call me lazy, bane, and filthy, The bad stuff sucks, Call me monstrous reprobate, and the good stuff ends.
