It's also kinda funny how many of the responses have taken the form of "I don't like country music (except for X song/artist)" which I hazard to say wouldn't be as common elsewhere. Several of the responses have been pretty good, especially from people who seem to have more familiarity with the country genre and the music business in general than I do. I guess what it comes down to is that Jewel will never be a "real" country singer because, while she has certain traits in common, she doesn't fully fit the traditional genre style. To that I can only say that it's country music's loss, and until the industry "loosens its definition" it will continue to lose market share (to which all the rednecks say "good, we don't want them city-folk 'round anyhow!"). In other news, I'm thrilled to see how much airplay YWMFM seems to finally be getting. I don't have cable at school so I can't watch any of the video channels (although when I was home recently I did catch YWMFM in the middle of the night) and I haven't heard it on the radio (does anyone know if KROQ, or for that matter any other LA station, is playing it?) so I had assumed it was still being largely ignored. Anyhow, countryish or not, it's still one of my faves from the album and I hope it becomes a really huge hit. Trent Smith P.S. Now entering my third month, I guess I'm still a newbie (although I will never refer to myself as such without much sarcasm 'cause I think it's a stupid word), but I feel I know the ropes pretty well. P.P.S. Within a few months I predict the "I'm Sensitive" line-dance will be the next Macarena! P^3.S. I was going to ask how many people feel an occasional uncontrollable urge to watch "The Dukes of Hazzard" on TNN, but then I realized that in doing so I might inadvertently trigger another one of those tv-trivia things which, as a "newbie", I'd hate to be responsible for. ------------------------------ From: "BRADLEY C. But as a person who has studyied and enjoyed many shakespeare plays, I have to disagree with your anger aginst the interpetation. Shakespeares brilliant writing has entertained audiences for centuries, and one of the most beautiful aspects of the plays is that they are absolutely timeless, they can be set in any time or place and still hold true to the original stories and ideas. I saw the movie just tonight and in the car on the way home I said to my girlfriend that if Shakespeare were alive today (I know, I know he'd be shouting, "Hey! let me out of this coffin!!") he would think that the movie was very well done. The swords were changed to guns because that was what had to be done, the gangs couldn't very well engage in swordplay in the modern world and the movie still be considered "beleivable." And if the script were modernized to be more easily understood...well..I think that would ruin the whole point of the thing. Shakespeare words are just as beautiful now as then, and to change them to fit the times would be almost a theatre sacrilege. Please don't think that I'm flaming you, I just felt, as an actor, I had to speak up. Thanks for listening.... SenztvRtst Kermit Scooter ------------------------------ From: "BRADLEY C. At 9:45 PM he was shot three times in the back by one Yigal Amir, a right wing extremist, studying law at Bar Ilan U. His murder was a political one, a result of him leading the way towards peace in this area, and towards settling the Israeli-Arab conflict, a thing for which he had won the Nobel Peace price. This murder rocked the nation, and its waves were felt around the world. During the week of mourning you weren't able to find one cheerful person on the streets. Thousands of youths, desparatly seeking a way to let their pain out, the same pain the adults had no way of helping with, as they knew not what to do about it either, returned to the square where the peace rally was held, to light candles in his memory, to mourn together. Since then many places here have been renamed after him - a hospital here, a military base there, the square of the rally, and many others, and the people have vowed this - we shall not forget. We shall not forgive. 42, Tuff - The Israeli EDA On Mon, 4 Nov 1996 wrote: > teach me...i'm unfamiliar with what or rather who you are speaking of... > > ------------------------------ From: Mike Connell Date: Tue, 05 Nov 1996 05:54:27 -0500 Subject: NJC Re: NJC: Scary Dream Sinjin wrote: > DENNIS HARRIS FOR PRESIDENT!
