So I am including my prerequisite "tapes". Heh. :) Alright, I'm generalizing. I can't think of anyone else who didn't want tapes when they delurked, though. :) I do realize there are lots of silent angels, who never delurk, never ask, never do anything. If they're content to simply watch, I have no problem with them. My point was, I think anyone who does delurk is clearly interested in more active participation, and I want to do everything possible to make everyone as comfortable here as we can. > However, I am not requesting them. The noise level annoys me, and DAT I'd like to say, I hope you don't cheat yourself out of some really great tapes. I think some of the Jewel tapes going around have been among the cleaner audience tapes made. JewelStock happens to be not only pulled direct from the board, but professionally (digitially) worked in a real studio by Alan. The other compilations have been culled from the best tapes that could be found then. Since most EDAs have been copying their tapes freely, the quality ratings about them are very honest. Or perhaps, it's because so many EDAs are honest, they've been copying their quality tapes freely. Not sure which. :) While I don't like the hiss that's mostly inherent to cassette recording, I haven't really found the couple tapes I've got [still easy to list them all: JewelStock, Innerchange, Rare Angels, SF-Warfield 09 Apr 95, Seattle-Puss Puss Cafe 03 and 12 May 95, Baltimore-Bohangers 16 Sept 95, and NY-Irving Plaza 26 Jan 96. Unfortunately, I seem to have misplaced one other tape, and I can't even remember which one it is. :( ] to have enough noise to detract from the enjoyment of them. In fact, I find the variety of the material and the more persanal nature fo the live performance, really makes them a lot more appealing to me in many ways. It's obviously your choice whether or not to pursue tapes, but I'd hope you'd try and at least get a couple, to see what you're missing before you dismiss them because of the generally poor quality recordings common to most tape trades. In case I wasn't clear, I'm not saying I think newbies asking for tapes is bad, in fact I think it's great! I just see some uncertainty and doubt (doesn't it seem like everyone asking for tapes is apologizing for doing it?) when people delurk, and I felt like something as mechanical as helping pass tapes along and such is a great way to let a newbie feel like a real part of the list. The tapes themselves are only a part of it, though. They serve as a sort of icebreaker... The sharing of the universal (to this list) appreciation for Jewel's music, to facilitate the sharing of thoughts, feelings, ideas. It gives people something to do, so they stick around long enough to get to know people. (ACK! Someone help me.. I'm starting to hear that quote, "In the serving of others do we find freedom," or something like that ;) (And yes, I'm happy to trade/copy tapes, though the few that have, already, can testify that I'm sorta slow sometimes. We went to the Islander game and came back to my room to get drunk. No sooner am I in bed resting it off then ambulence personel bust in and start asking questions. I asked them to leave me alone because I was drunk and I wanted to sleep it off. They told me I was coming to the hospital with or without cooperation. I told them I wouldn't resist. So they throw Armand and I into an ambulence and told us not to get sick on them. I had already gotten as sick as I was getting but I didn't want to go to the hospital. Armand and I argued all the way there. They they put us in wheelchairs and told us to shut up so we didn't disturb real patients. After and hour of Armand out like a light and me walking around constantly refilling a glass of water to replenish my bodily fluids. Our nurse Evangeline asked me to sign something allowing them to treat me. I was brought there against my will and I'm not paying for it. So I refused to sign. When pressed I replied "I'm not fucking signing it, get my lawyer." finally she left me alone and woke Armand up. I told him not sign because then he would be under legal oblication to pay for treatment. He signed anyway. Now he can't afford it. So the doctor entered and told us that we didn't belong there in the first place. Well no shit, I thought. now how are we going to get home. Here's Armand: WE TOOK A CAB!!!!!!! What the hell is he talking about? What weelchairs? I drank a whole #@%&ing bottle of goldschlagger. I just came downstairs from throwing up and these ambulence people made me sit down. I like goldschlagger and the nurse asked me for my autograph so i signed, she was pretty hot, i woulda done her, of i didn't have my glasses on. I have PEZ and i'm not paying the bill.
