That is the coolest thing, do I ever wish. But she got me really mad when she said that Jewel was a snot because the kids were talking and Jewel stopped playing twice and told them to shut up. But if they were rude then Jewel had every to tell them to be quiet. And I'm sure Jewel was her usual great self but the people at her school were being stupid. Hi everyone!!! I have a Jewel sighting to report. We have Shelly to credit for finding this. Today, when she was in the doctor's office, she was looking through a magazine...the one that has "loose talk" at the end. I believe it is US magazine. Anyway, their is a quote by Jewel. (there is a picture of Leonardo Dicaprio looking hot as usual) It says: "In the morning [the outhouse] had to be thawed, so we'd argue about who had to go out first:'Do you have to pee?' 'Nooo...'" -Jewel on her childhood in Alaska Shelly also said that while trying on shoes in FootLocker today, YWMFM came on it the musak version!!!! Hey, at least it is getting SOME airtime here. It seems that our radio stations in Toledo are too "hip" to play any new Jewel stuff. Very true James, but it's not them that I was referring to. I was vague in a way, sorry. I like de-lurkers who contribute! I like de-lurkers who add comments or even give opposing opinions to a Jewel thread. When a de-lurker tells us that perhaps we should get another playground, that's when I stand up and say my piece. Mike ------------------------------ From: hgladman@mgdestmx01.erin.gov.au Date: Thu, 31 Oct 96 15:45:30 EST Subject: Re: to all those who don't want to receive NJC Well there is one thing that does't get mentioned here. Dowload time. I can remember when I got mailing-list-happy and joined a whole bunch that had loads of traffic and suddenly I didn't have time to read them all and had to download them anyway on the slow modem I have at home. I had no choice in downloading them and my flatmates got sick of me tying up the phone line. So I had to be strong and cancel subscription to all but the ones I liked the most. Namely Jewel and RDT. Now I subscribe from work and I don't have download time. It's all just there for me so I'm not going to complain or whince at the cost like I used to. Also, I don't have time to belong to more than one or two since I'm at work and supposed to be busy anyway. So I guess what I'm saying is one of two things, maybe both things. If you have a problem with download time, just belong to a minimum of lists, or go to Jewel News. Simple as that. I'm happy with the way things are! In one way I feel chastised and humbled, but in another I'm glad the topic is out on the table. After some consideration I've come to some conclusions. But as I'm not an active posting member of the list anymore, I'm not so sure those opinions are worth anything. ;-) j/k You're right, it's pretty hard for a lurker to ask the active members of the list who MAKE up THE LIST to bring their discussion to another list. Then again, i'm not entirely too sure it would have made a diff If I was an active poster. I guess my point was this. Not all of us have the time to get involved with these lists as we would like. I for one would love to get more involved, maybe attend some of the get togethers, etc., (In fact, I did meet a few people at the Hampton Casino thing over the summer) but I can't at this point in my life. Perhaps down the road, but at this point I have a new business that takes almost all of my time. I think a lot of people are in the same situation as me. We lurk because we have very little choice. I've been "online" for a little over six years and have been extremely active at different points in my life. Most notably with the BCS, not that this is at all relevant. Anywaaays, to sum up, because I can be a real windy bastard and i want to spare you all the agony of listening to one of my lectures; next time you post a NJC message, just please keep in mind the people who subscribe to the list who have very little time in their personal life, but who LOVE JK and want to know what's up with her. We download your messages and filter through them and that takes time. Something I personally lack. <**BEGIN off topic rant**.......writing this is making me think about some of the choices I'm making in my life. I never wanted to get into a situation where I had so little time as to bitch about filtering through off topic messages. You read about or watch on TV the people who are so pathetically busy they don't have time to stop and "smell the roses" as they say. But I think we all go through different stages in life and this is one I'm willing to make right now to get to the next step ........** END off topic rant **> I'm not expecting any changes to come from this, and I'm sure I've probably angered and alienated myself from some (I hope not) but hey, I know there's some others who feel the same way I do. If we could tone the NJC down a tad that would be great. If not, well, I'll still subscribe to the list...I love jewel and this is the best info source I've found yet thanks to you guys. Thanks - -neil BTW, thanks to all those who sent suggestions. It was much appreciated. P.S. If this doesn't make any sense it's because I'm tired and need to go home and get to bed.
