What a strange night last night...must have been the full moon! There I am, sitting in my car, and the driver's side window falls down into the door frame...right off its track! *damn* Could it get worse? Hell yes, I had just pulled into an automated car wash! You guys have any idea the simulated hurricane conditions a super deluxe car wash can generate? First, the torrential spray of hot soapy water. Then, the wackawackawacka of space-age scrubber assembly rollers. Then, more soapy water. Then, the reverse wackawackawacka of space-age scrubbers. Then, warm rinse water. More wackawackawacka. More warm rinse water. Shoving a newspaper over the gaping hole, the suds and water ran down my leg into the floorboard. Then, the realization: *dooh!* I had put in an EXTRA four extra quarters for a double wash! At this, my memory kicked into high gear: *dooh!* I had put in another four quarters for hot wax! Then the final straw: I had selected the forced hot air dry option, which involves huge, grotesque cartoon-like hairdryers that were probably used for some of the nastier special effects in the movie "Twister". This had suddenly gone from bad to worse to far worse. Anyway, I waited for the ten foot wide scrubbers to make their third pass back, then gunned the engine, jumping the wheel braces and jettisoning from my automotive Waterloo. The result? The car was soaked and I resembled Tommy Lee Jones as "Two Face" in Batman Returns: my left half wet (but not yet waxed), my right half a little less so. I passed on using the vacuum station (there were no wet vacs!). A sheet of bubble wrap, taped to the open window frame, kept the chilly 65 MPH winds off me for my hour-long drive home. I only got pulled over twice, both times to satisfy the uncontrollable urge of Massachusetts State Highway patrolmen to pop the bubble "sections" of my temporary window... Today, the auto glass guy jerry-rigged the window track to work again, and swore it was the most bizarre auto glass story he had heard in 15 years. This ever happened to any of you guys? Or do these things only happen to me? - -- Dennis (Timing is Everything) Harris p.s. Glad to see that the Harris bros. are doing so well, I just negoiated some fine pricing for Mike Connell for a home he can rest in. The manager there said I could get 2 for 1 if I knew of anyone else in need, how 'bout 3 for 1,........even a better deal. They said they have computers there and the staff will type out anything recognizible. hopefully, Jewel is embedded into their deep memory, we might still hear from them. Actually, I'm thinking that they hope Jewel feels sorry for them and will come to visit.
