Unlike JewelStock, this tape simply came with the message to distribute freely to other Jewel fans, and that seems to be exactly what you've done. In fact you took it a step further and gave them to _potential_ fans, and maybe helped turn some new people onto her, which is something I'm sure Jewel herself would appreciate. I've heard she likes the Rare Angels tape by the way. I wouldn't worry too much about people selling them. It's school, these are mostly walkman recordings, and your copy is probably a few generations down. The people who got them will either get into them :) or tape over them :( Be sure you're at least selective enough to give them to fans of this style of music, otherwise you'll essentially be handing out free blank tapes. Not only is talking about Juliana now a rarity here, but we actually have people encouraging people to post more off topic messages by the day. This is one reason the Internet as a whole is progressively going straight to hell. The vocal minority dictate their will on the mostly silent majority, with the few who dare to oppose these people getting flamed and slammed until they submit into silence once again. Analogies have been drawn where the mailing list has been compared to clubs and that conversations within between people don't usually pertain to the topic of a club as a whole. The inherent problem is that although it is true for clubs, the analogy is fatally flawed for the mailing list. When someone speaks on a mailing list, it is akin to them stepping up to a podium behind a microphone and making an announcement to the hundreds of people on the mailing list. Anything and everything posted here go out to all our subscribers, no matter how trivial or off topic. Right now, to keep in the analogy phase, we basically have people who jump on the podium and yell anything they damned well please then justify it with crap arguments about freedom of speech when they're just too into themselves to see that they're just being assholes and making fools of themselves and just yelling when someone tells them to stop. I know this is harsh, and believe me, it doesn't come easy, but this situation CAN NOT go on anymore. Some general guidelines pertaining to the list. If it is off topic, DO NOT POST IT. Period. End of statement. If someone wants to do a poll, do not reply with it to the list ever, rather, send the person who started the poll a personal reply. (Which is something to think about if you want to post a poll) If you wish to send a message to one person, do not send it to the list. Send them a private e-mail instead. If you have nothing better to reply than a 'me too' or a 'that's cool' or any reply which doesn't really add to the topic at hand, please don't, or think of a better response before replying. These are simple guidelines that are necessary to keep the list in running order. They will be simple to do if everyone does it. The situation must be brought under control, even if I have to start going through the archives and remove the ones responsible. That will be a last resort, and I hate doing that because I want the list to be open to all fans of Juliana, but if necessary, it will be done to ensure the continuing existance of this list. If you have any questions or comments, you can mail me, but what I say here is firm and cannot be changed. Toni asked me to post this for her, since she's very busy right now... She got 6 assignments back in the mail this week from her home-school correspondence courses. 5 were A's. Congratulate her. :-) As you may know, her second band sojourn kinda fell apart due to creative differences -- but it was completely amicable and we'll probably see the other guys from time to time. Her newest venture (which, as it turns out, practices a mile from here and includes someone she went to school with) is slated for a concert tomorrow night, and they begged her to show up and back them. She's planning on a short night and a long day of practice; I'm planning on taking pictures and reporting briefly back to the list. This could be a good weekend for her. That's all, except to report that "Run Tonto Run", "Moon Over Austin" and "If This Is What Love Is" have become three of my very favorite Jewel songs since I've been repeatedly playing the JewelStock tapes... - -- | Greg Dunn | if i was twice the man i could | | GregDunn@aol.com | be... i'd still be half of what | | gregdunn@indy.net | you need. | | http://members.aol.com/gregdunn | Trent Reznor | ------------------------------ From: surfrank@32958.Surf.Tach.Net (Tach.Net User) Date: Sat, 12 Oct 1996 02:11:50 -0400 Subject: Re: Gainesville Repost: Part two (new strategy) >It was strange to see people cornered >off in fenced areas and Jewel waving from 50 yards away. She's beautiful, and chooses to be sexy and provocative, with that skimpy attire you pointed out. If she's doing a free show for the masses, she knows exactly what to expect and plays the part...I'm sure she's used to it. In the Request inteview, Jewel drew an analogy that left an impression with me. "Some horses are workhorses, and some are racehorses. I'm a show horse. I was built for this, you know what I mean?" I'm sure there's a lot of crap on the road that Jewel takes in stride. I admire the way she takes control of the things she can do something about, like the monitors, and deals with the other stuff without comment like a pro. It's also easy to see why she liked doing JewelStock so much, and why she said she would like to do it again! ttyl, Dan ...now going to see Adam's Fiona site, I've become very curious about her. I'm listening to her RealAudio broadcast from Adam 'Xenomorph's website as I write this. She's, like, ahem, a totally giggly schoolgirl between songs, then launches into a seasoned-pro-sounding performance...the contrast is remarkable. I didn't like her at first listen, but I'm starting to really hear some potential. Like Jewel, I think her next album will prove her, this one is immature and unpolished, and done on a shoestring budget. Criminal will be he big bit from this CD. She isn't Jewel, but don't dismiss her like I did before giving the album a chance! She's only 18 (19 now), 2 years earlier than Jewel's POY.
