Hi All, Lupo's turned out to be a show full of surprises. I'm too tired to tell you much about the atmosphere, but a great time was had by Dennis Harris, Chris & Karen Snyder & myself. We apparently were the only 3 EDAs that made it. We all sat together center in the front of the balcony. The club is small so the view was quite nice. The lighting was particularly good too. The set started solo acoustic with: "Pieces Of You" "Little Sister" "Cold Song" "Morning Song" "Race Car Driver" Then we were treated to a great new song which sums up Jewel's current outlook. I'm guessing here, but it seemed obvious that the title is: "Ain't No Looking Back" The band then joined Jewel. The set continued with strong electric versions of: "Satellite" "Sometimes It Be That Way" "Run Tonto Run" Then we were shocked, stunned & amazed when she whipped out a long lost gem from the Innerchange Days! None other than a highly smokin' version of" "MONEY"!! Then came the first electic version that I've heard of: "Grey Matter" followed by an electric version of: "You Were Meant For Me" then a solo acoustic version of: "Near You Always" The band returned and rocked out on: "Love Me Just Leave Me Alone" "Fading Away" She then began an electric attempt at "Fragile Heart" but changed her mind & finished the set with electric versions of: "Foolish Games" "Who will Save Your Soul" At this point we were quite satisfied & didn't expect anything unusual for the encore. Jewel returned to the stage and asked everyone to be very quiet for a moment. I was personally blown away when she performed Lenedra's bedtime lullabye that was so memorable at Jewelstock! Yep. A beautiful accapella version of: "The Little Bird" Followed by: "Chime Bells" Prior to the show, I spoke with her for a little while, and although under a ridiculous schedule lately, she seemed in top form, very happy & she sends her best wishes to the list.------MrBB (Alan) ------------------------------ From: Kevin Bruce Pease Date: Thu, 10 Oct 1996 02:42:45 -0400 (EDT) Subject: Branch Recruiting for 3/28/96 Howdy. The "Jewel Collection" consists of one album, three specialty albums (WoO, MoM, X-Roads), a bunch of miscellaneous promos with one song each, three soundtracks, and the EDA's wonderful collection of bootlegs (Rare Angels, Innerchange Days, Radio Angels, JS). Most of those CD's are at almost every music store in the country. The promos are the most difficult to find. And all you need to do to get anything from us is ask (and mail some blank tapes). I think she is consciously trying to avoid some of the angel imagery that was so prevalent on PoY. Not a bad idea, as she could easily become slave to it. at least in any critic's eye. The second time around, they can't really use the same lame Jewel puns, so if she gives them the Angel thing, they have something to jump on besides the music. What do y'all think? Hi guys, thought I'd forward ya'll one of today's newspaper articles about her Lupos concert last night. ;) ******************** JEWEL, HARRIS REPORTED SEEN AT LUPOS HEARTBREAK HOTEL Rhode Island Sting Operation Fails (Providence, Rhode Island) In a bizarre twist of events Wednesday night, Rhode Island authorities used singer/songwriter Jewel as a foil in an attempt to capture Dennis Harris, of the notorious Harris Brothers clan. Harris, an EveryDay Angel with a dirty face, has been AWOL from the list for several weeks now, and was last seen in a Turkish prison. According to reliable sources, the FREE Lupos concert was held in hopes of drawing Harris into an intricate web of deception and subsequent capture. Jewel was flown in from California for the staging of the operation, and 1600 local Rhode Islanders recuited as well. However, after the show, intensive interrogation of every attendee brought no further leads. "She didn't play Carnivore, and, like, I TOLD her to before the show, and shouted it out several times during the show, and I'll probably tell her again," whined reknown EDA Mr. Bossy-Bossy, lamenting, "No one EVER listens to me..." Jewel did play a new tune, possibly titled "Ain't No Looking Back" and a rousing version of "Money," probably in reference to the monetary reward offered for Harris. Several local street bums were offered up by the crowd, but on-site DNA tests failed to identify any of them as the suspect. Suspiciously, Jewel provided very little of her usual show banter, and there was little EDA attendance. Chris Snyder documented the event on film, and authorities have demanded all negatives in hopes of spotting the elusive Harris in one of the frames. When asked if she had seen Harris, Karen Snyder responded "You think I'd stay in a dark place like this if I had?!?" As a last-ditch effort to snag Harris, Jewel sang the lullabye "Little (Jail) Bird" to put him to sleep. After her siren's song drifted over the crowd, Jewel cleverly followed with "Chime Bells," leading many to believe she purposefully re-woke Harris in hopes (?) of his escape. All exits were carefully watched at the end of the concert, except the one Ms. Kilcher left through, as it well known that Harris always stands at the wrong exit after each and every show. Jewel seemed to really enjoy herself during the show, despite an sometimes unruly crowd. Authorities checked the backstage area several times, as well as the donut shop two blocks down the street from the venue. "We have NOT given up," insisted an official who asked to remain anonymous. "The Massachusetts authorities are staging a massive sting this Sunday prior to the Boston Commons appearance by Jewel. We know this Harris guy has a thing for Chinese breakfast, so we are hosting an EDA Chinese Breakfast thingy. We even invited Ms. Kilcher, but she might go shopping instead. Who knows?" "If Harris shows up, we'll nab him. Or an hour later, when he comes back. His number is up, and we will clip his wings." ******************** The net draws tighter, eh? And who the heck are these authorities? BTW, anyone got any information on this breakfast thingy? Will Jewel be there? If she is, I'll pick up HER tab this time... - -- Dennis (Desperado) Harris ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V1 #666 ***************************
