I am a relative newbie, having been on here since about the end of August. I have posted many intelligent and unintelligent remarks. I have tried to be witty and have a point at the same time. But tangents are bound to occur. People are only human, and if occassionally they change the subject or write things not having to do with Jewel, what the hell is the big deal? The whole post that Paul Kim wrote sounded like a 6-year old whining that he has to share toys with the rest of the class. Metal and rap DON'T have anything to do with Jewel, other than that they are forms of MUSIC!! Wow, imagine that, talking music on a musician's list. Never heard of that before. Why should newbies take the blame for the apparent downfall of this list? It's not newbies' fault that the vets have become intolerant, something which this list and Jewel herself oppose. Yeah, I delete a lot of stuff, too, but it's not like it takes a really long time. I was very offended by the connotation in the post of some sort of superior attitude. Paul Kim, if you're reading this, and you probably aren't but that's not important, I think you lost your patience too easily. I can understand it. What I cannot understand is the almost vicious way in which you are leaving, blaming others and bitching about silly things. Good luck to you in future ventures, but I hope you never have to deal with real people on a daily basis, because if you can't stand the tangents on this list, you'll never handle the tangents real people can get on. flamingly yours, newt "I beg to serve, your wish is my law Now close those eyes and let me love you to death Shall I prove I mean what I'm saying, begging I say the beast inside of me's gonna get ya, get ya, get..." -Type O Negative, 'Love You to Death' "Around the pyre, a circle of thirteen Throughout these woods, ecstatic screams I look deeply into your eyes I smell your hair, caress your thighs" -Type O Negative, 'Be My Druidess' "Yeah! Adieu. Adios. Gone... He'll be back. Well, I don't really know. Certainly he'll be missed. Odd, how I had joined the list in November last year, so Paul was one a "newbie" to me. Perspective is such a wonderful thing, dontcha think? The one thing that stands out about Paul is his constant references to how much people hate his posts. Funny, I loved every single one of his posts I read. And no, I can never think of a time when his opinions were horribly out of line. No one ever flamed him because we were gently smiling at his modesty. So now he has gone, and his reasons are not for me to argue. Yes, there have been many changes on the list; time has a way of doing that to things. People come, people go. Not everyone has boundless time to enjoy the interaction of internet email -- should we chain them to their terminals because we want them to stay so badly? I think not (said Descartes, and disappeared.) Is there a lower signal-to-noise ratio now than before? Perhaps, how do you define "noise?" There are a wider variety of topics as well as a wider variety of interests of the list members. But as far as I can tell, there is still as much if not more pertinant Jewel info now that there ever was. A list member, a good person, a friend leaves. Yes, I would rather he had stayed. But as I write this letter to bid farewell to one person, I have written two letters welcoming others. The rumours of this list's demise have been greatly exagerated. So why does this matter? What's it all about? Why are we here? What is the meaning of life? Is there a god? Wh.... oh, I'm sorry. I went on a bit of a tangent there. As I conclude this letter, I now realise I've written way more than I ever intended. But I have one more thing to add. Perhaps if we were to all clap it would bring back everyone who has left the list. Come on everyone, clap for Paul, clap for Neile, clap for Ken and Steve and Bob (who's Bob?) and everyone else! We'll bring them all back, and the list will flourish in bountiful posts about Jewel! Jewel! Jewel! Jewel! Is that what it's called on the liner notes and/or CD? I really wasn't interested in getting yet another version of WWSYS, but this looks very cool. I think it will merit a trip to Borders on the weekend. I've sent out the last of my JS tapes to the branches. I was still totally into them even after all the repeated dubbing. Tonight I'm taking a break to listen to Sheryl Crow's new CD. It's very good mainstream, but it will ultimately be played to death on, ironically enough, 'alternative' radio. If you want to pick up a cool CD to enjoy from now til Christmas, now would be the time, before it gets killed. Redemption day is a highlight, but there are several others. Highly recommended. Also new to me- Fiona Apple, 'Tidal'. I haven't decided about this one yet, it's a bit overproduced but she has some interesting lyrics, and a sultry, Sade-like voice. I'll bet she'd be amazing more stripped down, so to speak. Universal Honey - 'earth moon transit'. A very disappointing follow-up to their catchy 'Magic Basement' CD. Predictable, ordinary 4/4 pop. Frente - Shape. What happened here? Ditto Universal Honey. Eleanor McEvoy - What's Following Me? Some really good, catchy stuff on here, but some that haven't hit me yet. Maybe a bit too tear-jerky on the slow songs. Worth another listen to decide. Nil Lara - Cool, powerful, passionate Cuban-Spanish-influenced percussive rootsy rock. (Holy adjectives Batman!) Reminiscent of Chris Isaak. Recommended. That's more than I planned to write. ttyl. I was going to post about this tonight, once I found out more, but Webstock96 is a HUGE internet event that is going to happen on November 1-4. It's an AMAZING event. Celebrities, politicians and they like are going to take part in a host of different online events and chats. You gotta check this out. It's main site is: http://www.webstock96.com Since Jewel mentioned it on the Launch CD, I hafta think she's going to be involved somehow. EDAs, I guess it's about time I fired up my keyboard and said hello to y'all. I've been a member of this list since last year, but never really felt I had anything important enough to say or contribute. Something's got my dander up, though, and I just can't let it go. But I'll get to that in a minute. My biggest regret about this list is that I signed off during the summer, and I missed JEWELSTOCK! Oh whoa is me. I'm sure it altogether rocked, as I've heard many people say. I'll just have to get by remembering my two encounters with Jewel at previous shows. Moving on, I think the yearbook is a great idea, as it brings us all closer together and breeds a kind of familiarity. But here's where I bitch. Some goon read my page (or make that pages--see, I'm the ass that accidentally posted four separate pages--Stagger Lee. Don't ask me how I did it, it was a remarkably stupid affair.) in the yearbook and decided to email me and call me a (avert your eyes, oh sensitive angels) penis-less faggot because I said I thought Duncan Sheik was a good performer. Hmmmmm, first of all, I'm not even sure it was an EDA, but I can't imagine who else would be browsing that page. If it was an EDA, oh, how very disappointed I am. Tolerance, my friends, tolerance. This maroon also asked my how many concerts I've scene (sic), because I'm obviously not qualified to judge performers. What the hell does that matter? Actually, I've been to a fair number of concerts, both good and bad...and very bad. But even if that had been my first concert, why does that mean that I can't pass judgement on someone's ability. I like what I like, you like what you like, and I guess we both like Jewel, although I can't imagine that this thug would have anything to do with our goddess. Whatever, as the kids like to say. I don't know if this is the proper forum to be discussing this, but I felt it needed to be addressed. If this person was an EDA, I would hope that he would read this and realize what a dumb thing he's done. If he's not even on this list, then maybe I've been going on about nothing, although I think we can all learn from this incident. I tried to share a little of myself with the world, and got smashed by some jerk. Why does this stuff happen? Why do people go out of their way to bring misery and hurt to someone's life? I'm not saying I was crushed by the event, actually I found it amusing that someone would take the time and effort to do something so stupid, but I just sometimes wonder....why? Sorry to go on like this, but I felt the issue needed to be addressed. Live happily, angels.
