Definatly worth getting, IMHO. Also, anyone who gets MuchMusic might want to check out the show "MuchWest", which airs on weekends. I believe that they were filming at her show in Vancouver on the 25th. Last time she was here (April) they did a segment on her as well. Hopefully, it'll air either this weekend or next. Here's what Jewel had to say about the press at the show: "Some writers say I'm too naive - f**k them!" Hi my Angels!! I am once again sitting in front of Selena's computer. Well about this cool lil concert I just went to...actually my mind is in a haze I can't even think clearly. All of us angels had no trouble finding each other and immediately took our positions in thr front of the stage. I stood directly in front of the microphone in the very front row. The first band was some Johnny O. something or other. They were ok...just not my style...they were uhhh..."funky". To many people's surprise, Jewel came on second wearing a cute slip like skirt and a black satin shirt. Oh yeah and she had a REALLY COOL pair of black clogs on. She sang _Pieces of You_ first stopping in the middle to do her lil bit on how she wishes some political leaders would just die of old age, and about Delores coming out in a wedding dress with Keanu and she did her impression which the crowd seemed to enjoy. That was an incredibly long run-on sentence...but guess what...I don't care!! Anyway, we had a cute little sign hanging over the front of the security fence that Eric made saying that we were the EDA. She finally saw it and smiled and said hi. Eric had also made a sign that said "Play Flower"...she couldn't remember it. She started it and every couple of words Selena would tell her what the next line was...it was hilarious and definitely a high point of the day. Then Selena and I both said, "That's it" and she looked at us with this sly grin and sang the next verse that she remembered and we had forgot. She also sang Nicotine Love after a few of us had screamed it a couple of times...she forgot how it started!!! I heard a new story!!!! She told the story behind _Money_ and sang it...I love that song!! She did a nice snobby impression of some of her classmates at Interlochen. The crowd really liked her a lot...they were very respectful. She also sang _Tiny Love Spaces_, _Innocence Maintained_, _Satellite_ (I thought about Sinjin when she said Crew cuts, surfboards, powerbars, volleyballs), _YWMFM_ with the usual story and she flipped off MTV and radio execs for not playing her and told us to call and request her, _WWSYS_ with usual story, and _Chime Bells_ with the hair growing in story about her dad, oh and she also played _Little Sister_ and _Near You Always_. I think that is it but I have been known to be wrong once or twice in my life. :) During the middle of her performance it started pouring for about a minute and she said that she felt bad for us!! She also told everyone to go buy t-shirts and she said that she thought the FU I"M Sensitive shirt was over there...we replied by sticking Selena's sone Ryan on to SDF (Jared)'s shoulders above the crowd...Jewel looked at him and winked...it was really cute! After Jewel left the stage this radio dude came out and said that if a girl and a guy would come up onstage and yodel they could go backstage and meet Jewel. Well, there I was jumping up and down in the dead center of the front row and he picked ME!!!!! I got up onstage and was quite confident that I could do better than the other dude (I always yodel along with Jewel) BUT...I CHOKED!!!! AHHHHH!!!!!! I opened my mouth and got sooo completely nervous that a bunch of crap came out of my mouth!!! I felt stupid because I CAN yodel...not well but better than what I attempted. Oh well, I got to go backstage but they said Jewel already left so instead I got to meet Tony Rich. I shook his hand and introduced myself and they took a picture of us. It was sort of weird because he put his arm around me and I was like...ok cool!!!! I guess that was pretty awesome!!! I found a poster with Jewel's pic and ripped it off the pole it was on. We then went to where there were all this student reporters. The one reporter person asked Jared and I all sorts of questions about JS and the list and we told her our names and where we were from...I don't know if Jared noticed this or not but she recorded our conversation which I thought was really cool!! So if you live near Temple...look for a possible article about it. They also took pictures of us which I thought was cool. We hung around the library waiting for Jewel but we were slightly deceived...I happened to walk by a cop whose walkie Talkie was one and this is what I heard..."we will let the kids and limos hang around until Jewel's car is gone" I told them this and everyone went over to the other building. It was sort of funny because all of the security guards were pointing at us and whispering to each other. They tried to tell us that Jewel had left but of course we didn't believe that!!! Especially since someone spotted "Old Yellar" still there. Sure enough Jewel walked out a few minutes later. She had on a REALLY cool pair of gold pants. She signed autographs...when she got to me I had a silver pen ready...she attempted to sign my pic with her at JS 3 times but it didn't work...AHHHH!!!! She did sign STL for me though. Then she came back to me to attempt to sign my picture again and just signed it with her marker. I also told her that I loved the new video. She looked at me with a very surprised look on her face and asked "Where?" I told her VH1 and she was like "cool...I love the video too" We then headed back to the party mobile where we hung out listening to the JS tapes, the cover tape, Salvation...yes the evil bootleg that was made in the Czech Republic. I hate to say it but it was very nice even though the called one song _China Bells Ringing_ mmmmmmm hmmmmmm. This guy who has a record shop that isn't on the list had it and met up with us...really nice guy! Many paople also hopped into the party van to watch both versions of the _YYMFM_ video and other tidbits courtesy of me. We all got to know each other even better. It was a lot of fun. It is amazing how we all connected. We hung out for awhile and headed back. I really enjoyed my day, I got to know some of the angels a lot better and I felt like I belonged. It was really special. It is amazing how Jewel has brought us together...it makes me feel warm and tingly inside. I was very proud of my angels today and I know a good time was had by all. Thank you to everyone that made my fouth Jewel experience WONDERFUL!!!! I hope to see you all again in the near future!!!! Man I love my life!!! Yours VERY Jewelfully, Lizabeth Clark ------------------------------ From: Mike Connell Date: Sat, 28 Sep 1996 18:26:45 -0400 Subject: The Bootleg CD - it's bad for this list and projects like trees & the JS Tapes My fellow Everyday Angels, As a follow-up to Alan's message concerning the bootleg CD that has surfaced, I of course agree with him whole heartedly. This kind of thing AND it's subsequent discussion on this list may very well, in time contribute to the end of Jewel and her management giving their blessing and approval to tape trees and distribution of archived tapes. Consider the following excerpt. It is taken from the letter that Lenedra wrote to this list a couple of days after JewelStock. Lenedra said: > A situation developed just prior to Jewelstock that caused > us to get a lttle paranoid about releasing tapes that have her > new material with the band. Nothing to do with all of you, > but some people are trying to get ahold of it. So it has > made us a little paranoid to have it out there. We promised you > unedited tapes but we have this problem of an imperfect > world... Subsequently, what happened is that we had to release the JewelStock tapes without the band sets. The possibility still exists that those particular sets will be released (as a 4th tape) as discussed by Lenedra in that very same letter. However, being that her fears are of those band sets falling into the wrong hands and being bootlegged, along with the emergence of that bootleg CD , I would not be surprised at all if the 4th JewelStock tape does not happen. No doubt, that would be a shame, as (IMHO) it has the potential to be the best of a 4 tape set. However, the blame would fall squarely on the bootleg CD makers, and of course, those who purchase such CDs. We can argue on this list until we wear out our keyboards as to whether or not bootleg CDs actually hurt an artist, but the fact remains is that in this case they do, plain and simple. If an artist is against them (and Alan & I have gotten every indication that Jewel and her management ARE against them), then it hurts that artist, as it is what they don't want. Bootleg CD's hurt Jewel, end of discussion. So why are some of you discussing this bootleg CD as a must find? Why was its' existence published on the Jewel-news list? (I'll never understand that one.) For Pete's sake, please be happy with all we have gotten (with Jewel's blessing) thus far. There are very decent audio tapes of many of her concerts out there. The JewelStock tapes bring that to a new level that will most likely NEVER be topped, IMHO. I know it is very tempting to get a copy of that bootleg CD, however I don't see how it can possibly come close to the quality of the JewelStock tapes, which amount to about four times the music of that bootleg CD. Please, enjoy these tapes that were given to us, let the non-EDA fans gobble up that bootleg CD, there's no stopping that anyway. Just sit back and enjoy the fact that many of you will all soon have something that 99.9% of the fans of her music don't have...a gift from Jewel. Please, think hard and think clearly on this. This list has something VERY special that most, if not any other list does not have, regular contact with someone in the artist's camp, and occasional mailings from the artist herself. (and her mother/manager!) They feel SO CLOSE to this group, they gave US an incredibly special gift...JewelStock and the subsequent tape tree. All of this may very well come to a crashing halt if this bootleg CD discussion and list-member approval continues. Let's not throw this special and priceless relationship away, especially when it is oh so unneccessary. ("hey! isn't she the headliner? well, they have the stage prepared with just a microphone. ack!") well, right away, we hung up, or held up, a sign i made that read "EDA's HERE". jewel didn't see it until she finished her second song, when selena shook it to get her attention. she smiled at us, and we were recognized. :) then after her third song, i whipped out another sign i made that read "Play FLOWER". if you recall, i have never heard the song before live, and all EDAs in new hampshire were unsuccessful in requesting it. well, this time i came prepared and brought a sign. she saw it after she finished her fourth song and was about to start her fifth song. "oh, i haven't played it in a while. i don't think i remember it." then she starts fiddling around with the beginning of the song. after a few seconds, she gets it right. "yeah!" i said. "what's the first line?" "uhhh..." selena blurted out the first line with a little help from me, and jewel went on with the song. then she needed help with the second chorus, where selena helped again. when she got to the chorus, she flubbed a little, but went over it. on the third and fourth choruses, she needed help on the first lines, again, but selena was there again to tell them to her. after the second chorus, liz and selena told her to stop, saying that it was the end of the song, but then jewel blurted out the bridge that we all forgot, proceeded to the last chorus, and ended the song to a roaring cheer. the whole time while we were helping her with the song, the crowd must've been wondering, what the hell is this song? since most of them probably never heard it. but the crowd and the security guards were all amused at how we, er, selena helped her out. it was quite humorous, but it was great that she was able to do the song. i guess next time i should bring cue cards, eh? well, the set list off the top of my head and as close to the actual order is: Pieces of You Little Sister Sometimes It Be That Way Race Car Driver Flower (yeah!) Nicotine Love Near You Always You Were Meant For Me Satellite Money Who Will Save Your Soul Chime Bells observations: the security guard in front of me cracked up when he heard the line from RCD "it's better than watching star trek after you've smoked weed"...i think she played one of the most sensual versions (both sight and sound) that i've ever seen and heard...she requested that we all call up the radio stations and request YWMFM, which i'm sure a lot of people will do...she totally pulled "Money" out of nowhere! selena asked me "what's this song?" "i don't know, but i've heard it before", then jewel got to the chorus, "oh, it's money"...she only played an hour, and it seemed very short, but i kinda knew it was over when i heard WWSYS...she played "Chime Bells" much to the enjoyment of ryan, selena's son...security was very thorough (searches and metal detectors), which is unfortunate, cause cara brought a recorder, which she couldn't bring in, and this was a great show to have on record. *sigh* oh well. i'll just have to request flower again, eh? after the show, we all gathered at her car backstage. after quite a long while and some fruitless searching, she finally came out and signed a few autographs. i got a picture signed of her signing my t-shirt at jewelstock. then she went. we all gathered back at the party van II and had a party. well, nothing wild. :) it mainly consisted of listening to the cover tape ("no, it's not jewel! it's katie mccurry!"), jewelstock tapes, and watching various videos liz and brought of jewel. yeah! it was pretty cool. i must say i enjoyed getting cheese sprayed on my ankle. not! :) and unfortunately, kim, selena's neighbor who got us all the tickets, was splattered with silver ink all over her face when cara dropped some ink on her balloon, but it was an accident. overall it was great. it was nice seeing selena, krystal, cj, jared, liz, shelly, and mark again. it was nice meeting bryan, kathy, laura, her friend who i forget, patrick (his first jewel show!), ryan, selena's nephew and his friend, and the guy who decided to hang out with us for the first time. i'm sorry than gerrit and lauren bond missed the show. it would've been great to have you guys there. especially tracy merchant and her friend, who missed seeing jewel by a few songs, because it took them longer to get to the show than they thought. oh well. but there will be other shows and EDA gatherings, right? well, take care.
