This incessant whining is giving me a migrane. I'm not going to even TRY to speak for ANYONE on this list, but this is my personal opinion: the EDAs should reserve the right to bullshit. Sure I care about Jewel appearances and album info, but if that's all this list was about I would find myself slowly slipping into a coma every time I read my mail. I enjoy reading what Igor thinks about Jersey or what Selena thinks about the Harris Bros. or what Hooks thinks about everybody else. It's what makes this list what it is. If every string was something like "what color contacts do you think Jewel would look good in" this list would simply become a 16 magazine part 2 with mindless, automaton fans writing in only about Jewel and not showing any signs of individuality or a pulse. The human experience is about interaction, and if you can't handle it, good luck living in Greenland listening to radio free America. (My apologies to any Greenlanders who may be on the list.) I think many people on the list use Jewel as the common bond to springboard to other things and see how many other people out there share or differ from their views. As for soapboxing, a lot of people express their views on this list, but they don't neccessarily force them on people. As for me, I'd rather throw myself onto a row of burning pitchforks before I let somebody tell me to cut off my posts. If you want strictly news, switch over to the newslist. But wasn't the newslist created so that people who didn't - - want to read this stuff didn't have to? That's been done now. Why are you I thought the news list was created so that people who wanted only bare facts got them. Jewel discussion here, boring facts there. But that was just an ideal. - - still complaining? I know you're helping to moderate the posts for I wasn't complaining, just trying to make people think. I have talked with several old-timers that have gone/are leaving and i miss them. It was bad enough back in 95 when Jewel's popularity started to pick up and people from way back couldn't keep up with the discussion. No chance of them joining or those like them joining now. I enjoyed the Ateam stuff, but didn't like the Transformers stuff. But does it belong here? Sure, why the hell not. Who am i to express my opinion, and even if i'm free to speak, why does my opinion matter? I give up. Free list. I'm planning on posting alot now. - - inclusion in the newslist postings, and that's a huge, no - staggering - - - job to keep up with, but you *did* sign up for it. I don't think it's fair - - to complain now about the same issues that the newslist was supposed to I'm a moderator, sure. I have never been one to make it easy for myself when i can do good for so many. Just my opinion being expressed that's all. - - solve. On the other hand, it *is* our responsibility as list members to - - try to be as considerate to each other as possible, which means at the - - least to try to remember to always put NJC in the subject if there's no - - Jewel content. And we can add other codes as need be if they will help. I think we can all agree that "NJC:" is an inarguably good thing to put in subject lines. Let's all do it. - - Warning: everybody, if you have something important to say and you want - - people to read it, don't stick it at the end of a message that is part of - - a thread. Common sense, but we all have lapses. A lot of people will miss - - it, perhaps the ones you're trying to contact (e.g. a branch asks where - - his leafs are after a post about astrology, or Transformers, or the - - A-team). I'm not picking on anybody here. I was a part of the astrology - - thread myself. Sure i liked discussing astrology, and got to talk to some new people privately. But seeing everyone's sign got damn old, especially since it meant nothing to me. - - And I guess no one is updating the FAQ? It might be useful to have a new Sure, Adam Longfellow does that, and has worked very hard on it. - - mini-FAQ explaining what NJC and EDA are for and answering a few other - - most-asked-by-newbies questions. If I recall correctly the current FAQ is - - too intimidatingly large for quick or full comprehension. So the - - mini-FAQ would be a quick reference sheet basically. If people don't take the time to read the FAQ they aren't going to last here very long. - - If someone were to take charge of this, then we could even have - - newbies or once-newbies give feedback as to what was most confusing when - - they joined and include that in the quick reference sheet. And of course, - - at the end of it, we would admonish everyone to also read and study the - - full FAQ because there WILL be a quiz on it :) Yah, i like it! I realize you're joking, but it would help as unrealistic and against the freedom of access to the list everyone agrees to. - - And now to violate one of my own suggestions, I'll ask an important - - question (to me) at the end of this long post. Is there a good way to - - extract a single message from the digest form back to loose-mail form? I used to copy and paste it in a letter to myself. - - often want to save a message or two, but not the whole digest, and - - cut-and-paste is lame and effort-intensive.
