The popularity of this list is growing at a rapid rate and I am a little annoyed at the amount of the NJC but as long as people concisely state in there subject what is being covered in the post, I just hit delete. Let's say though this list doubles in size or more by the end of the year and instead of coming to work in the morning with 70 email messages I have a 140 at that point I would have to agree with you because the time involved in sifting through the messages is to great. At that point it would be a good idea for people to copy the names of the people entered into the conversation in there address book and take it somewhere else. But a final point is this, all this debate over the content of a list will kill the members faster than other NJC good or bad I don't know. Good in the way that Jewel loyalist will probably stay, bad that the resources that a large group can have won't be there. Time shall be the judge. elvis ------------------------------ From: "Elvis@luorc.edu" Date: Thu, 26 Sep 1996 09:04:57 -0500 Subject: NJC-Non Jewel Content(Duke boys) During the shows run there was a couple of local boys where I lived that made a exact duplicate of the General Lee complete down to the horn. Now I have a pain in my ass from reading your arrogant, selfish, inconciderate letter. I'm not even going to try to be nice in this letter. You are insulting all of us with your arrogance. You are going beyond stating a personal opinion. You are trying to tell us what to do. Bullshit! Mr Emperor of Smurfs, have you ever watched the smurfs show. As I remember the show, although it is a cartoon, it had adult as well as kid appeal. Hidden within the humor was a very serious side. In its message was a consideration for diversity. You certainly do not deserve the title of emperor of that kind of group. And I put my vote in with this letter to not allow you to try and appoint yourself king and ruler of this village. We do have one purple member, but he happens to be a bear. But like the smurfs, we generally are a very happy group. We all are having fun in our own way. Why don't you just watch all us smurfs play in our own unique and diversified way. Many are playing with the horoscope group, some are playing TV trivia, but certainly all of us were brought together by a love for Jewel. As a group, we have shown that we are not so shallow as to not have any other musical and personal interest other than Jewel. When ever a major Jewel event happens, most of the mail gets focused right back to Jewel content. This list just like water will find its own level. The Emperor says: > But there are also people that want to intelligently DISCUSS Jewel, her > music, her lyrics, her performances. This list *IS* about Jewel -- but it is also as much about Jewel as it is a community of people, from seperate and differant parts of the country, the world, as well as from different demographics, all sharing part of their life and lifestyles with each other. If you want Jewel pertenant info, do the news list thing -- isn't that the point of the news list - the recognition of the list becoming something more than just about jewel, and about all EDA members? I read what you say about the list being about Jewel, and I would agree, but what I don't feel you understand is that the list has changed, and no, the list is not a democracy, nor is it a monarchy or a depostism-archy-thingie - it's 'mobocracy' at its best and worst (Harris Bros. being a case in point ;) The list is not a law unto itself, nor does the list exist for the sake of itself (that would be a facist list indeed) the list is only a bunch of people, connected by their love, respect, and care for a single persons artistic expression - Jewel. If you don't like or agree with NJC, then I humbly suggest you subscribe to the News list. I for one would refer you to the FAQ, which tells the story of the beginnings of the EDA list, how it sprung from another, seperate news list - we are fostering a community, which in turn will spark other communities. We all, despite our flaws (Harris Bros.) and our good points (Selena) are communicating and belong to a kind of family, a tribe if you will, and our part of that is being on the EDA list and the NJC. Have I said it enough times to make my position clear? > i think i have tried to be polite and kind. i am not trying to insult > specific people. if i offended you, igor, i apologise. I don't think you have been - I agree 100% with Igor as to your atitude. Apology accepted, no hard feelings, lets talk about Jewel!
