You must remember most of us are in the US and, believe it or not, most of us work and/or go to school. So we have some time periods where there's very little posting. As for the Harris Brothers, we do exist and there are more than one. I'll try and give you a quick intro to us. I was the first one on the list. Then along came the blacksheep of the family, Dennis. He's a "bit" more vocal than I, but sometimes he makes people cringe when they see his e-mail address. But he's ok... just take him with a bucket (er, I mean grain) of salt. :) During the peek of the entire Harris Brother's fame, Andrew (can't remember his last name) told us that his middle name is Harris. After going thru social security, the IRS, and birth record of his home town, Dennis and I decided to vote him in as Honorary Harris Brother. Then Selena chimed in that she was the one who started the Harris Brother phiasco by asking if there "really" was two D. Harris's. So we made her an honorary one as well. Yes, there is a female in the Harris Brother Clan. At JewelStock, Dennis became chummy with Mike Connell. It was therefore decided to make Mo the third honorary HB. After the JS concert, Wiggy Amy was voted in simply because she's such a joy to be around and her posts have always kept us laughing, crying and/or thinking. Besides, she backed some common street thugs down with her brutal charm and finese. Now, since all this, Dennis and Mike have had a fallen out so to speak. Mike is attempting to refute the Harris name, but so far we haven't had a Harris Bother Committee meeting to vote on if we will let him out of the Harris Bother Contract. It's a big legal mess that I'm hoping we can settle without bringing in to many lawyers. It just might be Amy that solves this issue as she has been gracefully attempting to stradle the fence and appease both Mo and Dennis. Only time will tell the outcome. Dean (the first Harris Brother) Harris P.S. I'm sure if I got something wrong or the chronology out of order, Dennis will pipe up and let us all know. :) ------------------------------ From: Eric Haglund Date: Wed, 25 Sep 1996 14:06:51 +0600 Subject: Re: T.V. Trivia Time I guess it's time for this to come up again. It's been what, a whole 2 weeks since someone appointed him/her-self the defender of that which is true to the list? If we're going to have a bouncing (immediate or nearly immediate resend of mail to the list) list, and not an edited and moderated discussion, the topics will drift around. If we're going to lock the topics down, THAT would be a different list than this is, resembling more a newsletter approach, except not always news. (point being that it'll take one or morepeople to dedicate their time to processing every message sent. If we were to really count up the different NJC threads, yes, the argument over what belongs is probably the biggest of them. I think that's beside the point, however. On any mailing list, not all topics will be of interst to everyone. If someone were to post info about Jewel's boyfriend, is that on or off topic? The guy plays a role in her life, but that's not the same as being directly related to Jewel, is it? What about the various opening acts for Jewel, who aren't opening for her now? The only news that everyone can agree they want is news about Jewel. The news list does that. Everything else is the cloudy middle ground, where there are no hard and fast ways to decide what other people want. Generally there will be some people interested, and people not. As the subjects drop to 2 or 3 people participating, perhaps it's time to move it to private email, perhaps not. I guess that's why Eric is asking what everyone else thinks. I'm thinking he wasn't meaning to start another discussion on the nature of the list, so much as get a feel for how many people are for this one thread versus against it. Still, the two are related. Can we take a vote every time someone doesn't like a thread? Just my thoughts on the matter, Ray Eric Haglund wrote: > > Does anyone else agree with this statement down below? Well, I just posted a reply to Eric's asking about someone's desire to get rid of the trivia because it doesn't belong here, so I might as well comment here, too. :) This is at least the right reason to kill a thread. Not because it "doesn't belong," or "belongs's elsewhere," but because we're bored with it. I rather like a small amount of trivia injected into conversations, where it can liven things up a little, but yes, I'd agree that as it's own topic, it can get boring real fast. Could have been Berlin's _Pleasure_Victim_ debut EP, as well. I actually was a Berlin fan back when David Geffen still answered his own phone, in 83 :) Seems odd to realize that back then, you could actually call a record company up, and ask for info on a band, and get sent your own (free!) press kit. Runners up include Mary Chapin Carpenter, Joshua Kadison, earlier Legendary Pink Dots, White Lung, Sonic Youth from the Evol, Sister, etc days, including Sonic Life, Ramones, Parliament, Richard Hell both with Television and the Voidoids, Johnny Cash, REM's Chronic Town EP, Wire, Cocteau Twins, This Mortal Coil, Naken Raygun, Coil, Nurse With Wound, Einsturzende Neubauten, et al... [most embrarrassing CD bought] Ummm, I don't get embarrassed about my musical selections. I've always made my choices based on what I liked at the time, so there was little reason to feel silly, later. There were plenty of 80's pop artists I liked, but their popularity wasn't why I liked them.
