However his arguments are slightly flawed. My letter would need very little defense if I went to greater length about Wal-Mart. That I would be glad to do in a private letter. However, I do need to clarify a few of my statements. Ray said: > I find myself the reluctant supporter of Wal-Mart, however. There are many things about Wal-Mart that can be endorsed. They are the largest retailer in the world. The buying public voted with their hard earned dollars. I own a big block of stock in Wal-Mart. That stock was only purchased after they announced that they would stop selling guns. My wife's employer's largest customer is Wal-Mart. So I to reluctantly support Wal-Mart. > Igor wrote: > > How about "Wal-Mart Sells Goldfish That Bounce". Ray, thanks for not making fun of my mistake. Or you may have also missed it. Let me first correct my mistake. I meant Sheryl Crow, not Sharon. > Don't the lyrics to "Love is a Good Thing" go something like, > Watch out sister, watch out brother > Watch our children as they kill each other > with a gun they bought at the Wal-Mart discount stores. > or something like that? > I'm in complete agreement that too many children die, but are you > really going to blame Wal-Mart for being less than appreciative of > being accused of violating multiple federal felony laws? Let me explain this one by asking you a question. How old are you? My guess is you are a very bright 20 something. Regardless of your age, you are and will always be your parents child. My children are 22 and 25. We are all someones children. When Martin Luther King said, "When all God's children...." he was talking about you and me. Sheryl Crow was not wrong in using the word children. She was also not wrong in using the well known retailer. It serves more as an acusation of the system than Wal-Mart. It serves only as an example of how easy it is to purchase guns. You can not deny that Wal-Marts history of selling guns and their size makes them the largest distributor of guns in the country. Even though they stopped, many of the guns on the street came from Wal-Mart. > I'm as opposed to censorship as the next guy (I even maintain that > the "Clear and Present Danger" ruling is itself a clear and present > danger to our national security, but never mind that), but I'm hardly > going to fault Wal-Mart for this one. I would have more trust in an elected official than a decision made in a corporate board room. Unfortunetly our elected officials bend for the corporations and forget who they work for. They could have brought attention to Sheryl Crows CD with a sign stating their position. This way the customers can decide for themselves. If they can do it to Sheryl, they can do it to other artist. How would you react if they did this to Jewel? Or if you heard similar lyrics at a show but found they were changed when the CD was released. When one of my employees had a problem with a local merchant and was refused a refund, I simply hung the product in my front window with a sign. It said, "this defective product was purchased at ....and was refused a refund". The owner of that store was over in a hurry to talk about what the problem was and the solution made both parties happy. > > I like buying my records from real record stores, like Lou's Records, in > > my area. It took me a _really_ long time to figure out what Aynarih was talking about, why she sent it to this list, and why NO-ONE exploded at her calling her tastless and classless...I get it now...I may be a little thick now and then, but I can spot a trick from a yard away... Don't worry tho...I'm not gonna ruin it for everyone else though... About the subject of Astrological signs...I must say, I'm envious of the Gemini's here...I kinda wanna be a Gemini myself, I've often though of *switching* signs, seeing as how mine never seems to work out the way I want it to. Personally my birthday is in FOUR DAYS!!!! ( Big Hip-hip-hooray...at least that's what the voice in my head is saying ) ...That's right...September 19, thus making me a virgo... Personally, I have yet to meet a fellow virgo who is popular / healthy / even remotely good looking or anything of the sort...That's not to say they're not out there, don't get me wrong...but, I'll have you know, I'm in high-school, " the prime of my life " ( whatever that means ) and I can bench press....about....pi. Also I've had really bad-luck-streaks in my day... ( hit my cars, ice-cream up the nose, multiple concussions, as well a series of hurricanes doing some house-cleaning for me ) So anyway...I ask *YOU* fellow EDA's, what sign should I change to, or should I change at all, cast your vote, for it will have no impact on your life or mine whatsoever! Also, I warn you fellow Floridian / Alabamian / Georgian EDA's, In 4 DAYS, I'll be driving, so get a bicycle, ASAP, It's for your own good! \\\|/// º¿º V Mac You can call me Slunkers, "Wish I could change the way that you feel. I was in a chat room, with Rachelle and other new friends, and the subject got to talking about faking orgasims. Now there was this Guide person in the room also, the person who eventually had me kicked off, eeeaarrr where's Akira's program when I need it. I said that if a woman can fake it after two hours of cunniligus than the more power to her. Then Guide says I've violated some agreement. What the f***. I could of said anykind of street lingo for oral sex on a woman, but I used the proper latin term for it, hey it pays to be a biology major. Then boom, I get kicked out, and it says I violated the sexually something law. Freakin' heck, censorship. We we're in a chat room called Massquerade and everyone was getten' pretty sexual, measurements, clothing, winks and nudges, and I get kicked out for using a latin word. Just wanted to use my free 15hrs of Aol to chat for awhile and look what happens, not to mention someone decides to pop into a private room/conversation I was having. errrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, Robb Rant 'n Rage last update 9/11/96: http://www.vt.edu:10021/R/rleigh/robb.html rleigh@vt.edu Sr Pepito@aol.com PurpleFuz@aol.com ------------------------------ From: Fuzzy & Piglet Date: Sun, 15 Sep 1996 23:16:25 +0600 Subject: Re: getting NJC: WalMart (was:Title #2) >When one of my employees had a problem with a local merchant and was >refused a refund, I simply hung the product in my front window with a >sign. Just a quick hiya! I was on the list back when... before the summer, but I had to unsubscribe for assorted reasons. So, I missed out on Jewelstock, and yes I am bitter. Been a Jewel fan since April-ish 1995. Saw her for the first and only time when she played here in June of 1995. She just blew me away. Just her and her guitar and that voice!! :) She is rumoured to be back here in October - my fingers and toes are all crossed. A couple quick questions... anyone on the list from Ottawa? Who can take the time to answer some stupid questions about audio on the WWW? Via e-mail of course... Thanks a bunch! Just a few last minute details to work out. This tree will be a monster and we are trying to get everything right before we open the door. :) Please note that we will have sign-up "windows/periods" to alleviate the expected _crush_ of EMAILs. We are afraid of my mailbox overloading and leaf requests may be lost. More info will be in the actual sign up post, but in a nutshell the sign up period will look like this: 1st two day period: last names A thru M 2nd two day period: last names N thru Z final 3 day period: anyone who missed their 2 day window In other words, you have a whole week to sign up. Just do it in your period or the last three days. The signup period will be one week and then the tree will close for leaf signups permanently. Also, there is a cutoff date in effect. A leaf must have been a list member as of today to be able to sign up as a leaf. Please don't ask for an explanation. It just that it's something that must be done to make the job of running this tree a heck of a lot easier and Alan & I feel it's the best way to alleviate some of the fears that Lenedra expressed to us at JewelStock. Do not worry if someone misses the 7 day period or the cutoff date. There will likely be 400 or so tape sets out there. If a leaf missed the signup, we are sure they could get a copy from anoher leaf. Thanx for bearing with us (Alan and I). Alot of work has gone into preparing for this and the doors will open very soon.
