I don't know if it was included on the single that was sold in stores. If I see another one I'll let you know. 32 Flavors is a live bonus track, recorded in Seattle, found on the CD single for Shy. Could this song be autobiographical and the result of a long touring schedule by Jewel. Always wondered about this, though my general understanding is that most of the songs are writen about observations not actual life experiences, except a few that she tells us, like WWSYS, Fat Boy, and Fade Away. I really hope the last two and 1000 miles away are on the new album. Won't it be great that if say five years down the line and three more albums later Jewel comes out with a live double CD like the Cowboy Junkies 200 more miles, that has stuff like "Hi, Tom!" and "Don't say your sorry" and "I can't believe this is my life" or an early performance of a song where Jewel messes up and stops mid song. Something George Carlin brought to my attention. We'll start with what some genius from AOL sent to the list: that Alanis has sold NINE MILLION copies of her record. So I suppose we can assume that his argument is: lots of people like her music, so she is great; likewise Jewel isn't that famous so she must be mediocre. Ok back to Carlin. He makes the remark that there are a lot of stupid people in the world. Ok, "sure," you say, "that goes without saying." But just sit back and think about hows tupid the average person is. Ok. Now all you have to do is realize that HALF the people in the world are DUMBER than that! Well, there you have it. There are at least 2.5 billion IDIOTS out there, so the fact that some woman sold a whole bunch of records doesn't mean diddly to me. What means diddly to MTV is that Alanis is what a lot of people (idiots or not that is a different story) want to see. So she gets the spotlight. See? De nada. The following is from Tuesdays USA Today. Check the site out at: http://www.cbgb.com it's a long one - -------------------------------------------------------- Web site opens the doors to legendary rock club CBGB's You may know that Blondie, Talking Heads and Television cut their musical teeth at CBGB's in New York, a nightclub renowned as the spawning ground for some of the leading bands of the 1970s and '80s. But did you know that John Belushi drummed with the Dead Boys onstage at the famed Bowery bar? Or that Sex Pistols bassist Sid Vicious, contrary to myth, never performed as a solo artist at the club but was thrown out for hurling a beer mug at singer Cheetah Chrome? Or that AC/DC once came down and jammed on the Dictators' equipment after a set at the Academy of Music? Lost moments and untold tales are the hallmark of a new Web site on the Internet, CBGB.com (http://www.cbgb.com), devoted to one of music's legendary venues. Hilly Kristal, the avuncular owner who has presided over CBGB's since its early incarnation as a country, bluegrass and blues joint favored by bikers, is calling in favors from old friends to create the site. Club history is documented through never-seen photos and never-heard stories, while updates are provided on the still-active club's doings. The Web site hopes to capture the club's rock 'n' roll spirit, down to offering views of its graffiti-clad walls and grungy bathrooms. Site creator David Scharff, 34, performed at CBGB's during the club's '70s heyday as part of the Student Teachers, a group that played with such stars as Blondie and Richard Hell but never made it out of the New York circuit. When a previous attempt by Kristal to establish CBGB's on the Web fell through, Scharff, who worked at several record companies as an art director before joining Web design firm Fusebox, got the assignment because he understood the peculiar zeitgeist of the club. Scharff says the CBGB's site will rely on sponsorships, as well as sales of merchandise and audio recordings done at the club, for its revenue. So far, clearances for photos and audio rights have not posed a major problem, thanks to the three decades of goodwill generated by Kristal's paternal oversight of the club. "We always let people take pictures here, which went against what was happening in rock 'n' roll," Kristal says. "Managers used to come down on people and say, 'No pictures.' But since most of these were new bands, that's how we got known. People would take pictures of all these new things happening." Many of the photos have not previously been widely exhibited, including shots of such well-known acts as Talking Heads in their infancy. Photographers "put out the pictures that are technically the best," Kristal says. On the CBGB site, "some aren't great pictures but are great as subject matter." To date, agreements have been reached with rock photographers David Godlis and Joe Stevens, well-known for their photos of the era, and negotiations are continuing for the archives of several other major photographers. Lisa Kristal, Hilly's daughter, also will contribute. "Access is king in photography, and she had access," Scharff says. All the work will be housed in a section known as The Shrine, which is now updated every three weeks but eventually will be a biweekly look back at club history through words and pictures. Bands, audiences, writers and photographers who have material for possible inclusion can e-mail the site at cbgb@fusebox.com. Interest in the punk era has been stoked by the new book Please Kill Me: The Uncensored Oral History of Punk, a chronicle by punk progenitor Legs McNeil with Gillian McCain, which details the lives and relationships of the scenesters surrounding the New York movement. "It's very trashy but a good read," Kristal allows. The venue's visibility is also likely to get a boost soon from another club veteran. Capricorn recording artist Syd Straw plans to release a single called CBGB's, a homage to her experiences at the club. Eventually, the CBGB's Web site will feature live broadcasts from the club and audio clips from the bands that play there. But don't expect too much of Kristal in any of the broadcasts. "I think young people like to see young people," he says, although he adds, "Maybe I'll put my two cents in a little bit, but I think it has to be done only in context with what will work for the listeners."
