OK, the height thing again, only this time Im ready with the accurrate info. While in Alaska J and her mom, Lenedra, measured at the high school. They were both exactly 5 feet five and three quarters inches. A carpenter friend used his ruler to double check the wall system they measured against and yep thats how tall. No shoes. Which put an anticlimatical end to their friendly running argument about who is tallest. Hiranya ------------------------------ From: pjk@cybercom.net (Phil Kelnhofer) Date: Fri, 30 Aug 1996 21:44:35 -0400 Subject: NJC vs. JC-only I haven't been posting much lately (and I haven't been able to read everything lately) but I had to get my point across on this subject. I don't mind NJC when it starts from a Jewel-related topic and goes of in a tagent. I don't mind people posting about other artist I may like. I love the poems because postin poetry for many of us is Jewel-inspired. As long as NJC is clearly in the subject I don't see a problem with off-topic posts. One big problem I have foudn is people quoting entire posts and respond to one part. People have read or can read (this list is archived at www.smoe.org) the old posts. Please, only quote as little as possible. It is easy to not have the time to read everything (try working a temp job from 6:00 to 2:00, coaching football from 2:00 to 6:00, and volunteering at another place from 6:00 to 10:00). Half an hour to read the list everyday is more than I can afford sometimes. When the Jewel-NEWS list is done I will subscribe to both. That way I can read the regular list when I have time and the news only list when I don't. My suggestions is to remember that 600 people are getting a post when you send it out. Read it over and ask yourself if enough of them really want to read what you have to say to make it worth. Also, if we setup a #jewel in IRC, I think lot of current NJC posts can be said there and not clog up the mail list. Let me try to pour on the baking soda. Sure, he's being a butthead (personal opinion, heh ) but he's being an HONEST butthead. I am one of those who is anxiously awaiting the Jewel Newslist, for the sole reason that those of you who don't want to read non-Jewel related posts from this beautiful group of people can stop whining and stop ruining our good-naturedness. Remember, people- WE ARE GETTING A NEWS ONLY LIST. Why are we arguing ? There is no excuse for getting vulgar. I PERSONALLY love everyone on this list and would go so far as to say that this list is more about friendship and support to the EDA's then Jewel . I think of it more as my friends than Jewel's followers :). The whole writing-NJC-on-NJC posts is great, and common courtesy. Never will the letters NJC stop me from reading a letter from a friend. I'm imagining at least 10 replies posted to the list about Sean's letter, including what Phil and I ( according to him ) HATE with a passion... the FULL quote. Let's just treat this with a MJB attitude- if he pisses you off, write to him. Unless you're like Paul Kim and you can come up with something REALLY funny to say back to him :). Ok, I really don't have any info on this, other than talking to my advisor for the program board here at Amherst, he told me that one of the college dates for Jewel that I told him about from Hiranya's post (he wasn't sure) might be tentative and that we (if the stupid gym people can confirm that the gym will be available) can put in a bid for her. He said that the college who is getting her right now at this point is offering her $25,000 but she's willing to do it for $10,000. What a bunch of mooks. When he told me this, my hopes both rose and sank. We'll see what happens, and if we can steal her away from whatever college she is slated to appear at.
