Does this mean we need to turn into robots and just post Jewel info so Hiranya can get through the list. There are software robots that can do that for you. What's next, don't mention any other artist but Jewel. At some point when we run out of Jewel only content, will there be a thread about if she uses napkins or tampons? Jewel has been the catalyst that brought this group of special people together and I hope see gets time to read some of the letters. She may learn something just as I have. Angelica said along time ago in a poem to Jewel: > "I hope that the hearts you > touch touch yours as well." This still is one of my favorite words I have read on this list. They are right up there with some of Jewels own words. I've never written an actual poem before. I mean, I wrote some cute and funny rhyming poetry in high-school English, but it was more like Dr. Seuss than an expression of my emotions. Anyway, I've been going through hell lately, and I heard that writing poetry helps sooth the soul, so I thought I'd give it a shot. I didn't think I could do it (and still doubt that I'm any good at it) but during class today I pounded out 4 poems, all pretty much about the same subject. I thought I'd post it and see what you Angels think. First though, some background to my poetry. It doesn't follow any pre-set pattern like Haiku or a sonnet, because I believe that poetry is meant to convey an emotion and that does not require following any structure whatsoever. Jewel said it's easier to write out of sadness than when you're happy, so being a poetic novice and since I've been depressed lately, it makes sense that all these poems are meant to convey a sad emotion. Maybe if I get any good, I'll be able to write happy stuff like Jewel, but I doubt it. Anyway, I've rambled long enough, here's one of my poems. If anyone likes it and wants me to send them the others, just say so and I'll email it privately. Feel free to respond to me off the list with your comments and criticisims. Here it is: "Unrequited Love" by Sinjin Words suck. Because I can not find the ones that express my pain. Because I didn't use them to tell you the love I kept secret. And now my chance is gone. My hopes are dead. Because I know I can not have you in my life. Because I'll never have the chance to give you the love I still hold. And you no longer need me to do so. He loves you for me. Because he is a success and is intimate and mature. Because he is what you want and need in your life. And I am not. - -- * * \____/ / JS \ "Powerbars and volleyball..." \ 96 / Jewel- "Satellite" |__| / \ / \ ------------------------------ From: Jacob Richard Hirsch Date: Thu, 29 Aug 1996 15:51:56 -0400 (EDT) Subject: re voting Greg wrote: > I would agree that not voting is very much like saying that >you just don't give a damn about what happens to you, or to > the rest of the world, but the effectiveness of voting must > be questioned. The tour came through New York's Madison Square Garden last week and Jewel completely won over the crowd, opening with a sultry reading of the traditional "Summertime" and racing through a combination of tracks from her -- now platinum! - -- debut album, "PIECES OF YOU," as well as some teasers from her forthcoming second album, which is slated for release in January. We must admit that the most amazing moment came with Jewel's closing "Yodelling Song" (it's not on any album but she plays it at almost every show), which had the Garden crowd roaring their approval. The tour finishes with a huge festival show at Toronto's Molson Park (sharing the bill with Oasis and the Gin Blossoms) on August 31. ------------------------------ From: Anthony Prescott Pego Date: Thu, 29 Aug 1996 15:47:11 -0500 Subject: Re: NJC-PEARL JAM oww. my ears hurt. I myself am an idealist and don't see what is wrong with being a little nieve. Like some of us were discussing before, reality is merely a perception of the world around you. It exists independently in each independent mind. An idealists world is a little sweeter then a pessimists, IMHO. Although I am an idealist I can not be optimistic. The only answers I can come up with don't seem to be possible. The idealistic world lacks concrete and rational reality. That is why it is nieve but if you truly believe that you create your world then you might as well be an idealist, like Jewel.
