I've been on here a long time and I see so many posts that say "what would Jewel say?" or "what would Jewel think?" The list is getting to be >too much for us to respond to cuz of all the NJC and we might >not be able to keep it up. Is the newslist underway? Just an idea I had... The idea of splitting the list into separate news and talk lists obviously isn't well liked by a lot of people, but there's also apparently an agreement that some informations/material is less important than others for being read all the time. What if we were to have a matched pair of list halves? (wait, what does THAT mean?) What I'm trying to suggest is based on an idea I had regarding the digest, actually. A lot of material just isn't as timely as some. My original idea was that there should be a "news" list, containing all members of both the regular list and the digest, plus the regular and digest. Most traffic could go through the regular address, and be sent or digested as appropriate. (meaning most of it could wait until I had time to read it all.) "News" could be anything of more immediate concern to the list. Everything would still go to all members of the list, but it would help people who are too busy to follow it all in real time to prioritize things. My thought is that we want to preserve the social aspects of this list, without overrunning the informational aspects. I think a hierarchical list structure might allow us to do that. It's clear that everyone is able to decide what's NJC stuff, so deciding which of two lists wouldn't be too much of a stretch, I'd think... or we could try and convince those that run the list software to have it scan the Subject: line for NJC or something and automatically divert those to the list alternates, or something like that... Just an idea.
