I made my first burn. Can anyone guess of what? Now I'm off to back up all my files and programs on to cd's. Once I take care of that, well I know we've discussed this but I won't be copying anything I don't already own. Besides with 3 cd boom boxes, 3 portable cd players, and one cd player hooked up to the stereo it'll be easier then hunting down that one cd someone might have in their bedroom buried under 5 layers of dirty laundry, or clean for that matter. For those really against this, I give my word not to sell, or copy any performers for anyone other than my son and Nancy's daughters. I gave up on that internet phone stuff. Microsoft is for windows only and For some reason vocaltec won't work. It says my sound extension is busy. Well of course it's busy. I'm rambling. But since Jewel came into L.A. and left without a word in the paper or news I'm left feeling kind of empty. Igor, thanks for the info on the internet school hook up but our district just set up a whole infrastructure and is now hooked to the net. funny part is each school has to wire their own schools for anything from 15-20 thousand and that's not counting upgrading our computer lab and classroom computers. The newer schools were wired when they were built and the other schools in our district with affluent parental muscle managed to get the computer grants our district was giving out earlier last year. Of course our school, older, and multicultural, failed to get any monies. Where other schools are hooked up to the internet we have one computer that can go on line. Done. So will somebody out there pass on some new info on how Jewel is doing and how her weekend in L.A. went. Someone out there has to know something. Pretty slow day with only eighteen jewel listings today. Well back to my new toy. Anyone out there that has any knowledge or knows where I can find out more about my new toy please write and let me know. It came with Corel Creator. Jewel we miss you. I know Jewel said that she doesn't write a whole lot of autobiographical stuff, but I was wondering exactly how accurate the story behind the song "Nikos" is. I really only took a good listen to the song for the first time today, and it's incredibly beautiful (like most of them, only I happen to really like this one in particular). volt "One tequila, two tequila, three tequila, FLOOR!!!" ------------------------------ From: nh@ideasign.com (Nathan Hopper) Date: Sun, 25 Aug 96 22:42:34 -0000 Subject: Re: RealAudio & Atlantic & other woes... >So what about these stores that let you listen to CDs in the store? Or even if the person I borrow the CD from is a manager of a music >store, wouldn't that be the same thing? The royalities are for a public performace of the CD. It's like at the beginning of a rented movie the FBI warning, it prohibits public broadcasts but those in a home are kosher. So like renting a movie to play for a gym full of people wouldn't be legal. But, entertaing your family for an evening with Apocalypse Now is ok. What defines 'public' I know not. What if it's a big home and you can cram lots of family in? I don't know. I don't want to sound like an expert or even an informed amatuer, nor am I trying to fool anyone into thinking I am. > >ASCAP is a horrible, horrible thing that needs a good smack in the face >by someone. It's that whole "intelluctual property" crap. I doubt if they are ever destined to loose big. If you think ASCAP is bad, well, the software industry is tenfold worse. I don't know if I even want to begin with the software thing because it's just going to get me mad. She sang 11 songs but Foolish Games was the best by far. I think it was the best version I've heard. She did sing Angel Needs a Ride which certainly didn't go over well with the crowd. She followed it with Love Me Leave Me Alone and Carnivore which were much better suited for the Neil Young fans. And the biggest applause were for the finisher, Chime Bells. One of Jewel's roadies came out after Nedra, Jewel, the band and all were already on the bus. He said they were heading out now for Jones Beach. So all of you going there should have a great concert by a well rested Jewel. MIke ------------------------------ From: Chad Sosolik Date: Mon, 26 Aug 1996 00:03:40 -0400 (EDT) Subject: Who are they? ObJewel: Does anyone know if Jewel wears cologne? Having stood next to her on three occasions, I have never been aware of artificial scent. Nor natural scent, for that matter, which is impressive considering she had just wailed on the guitar for 30-150 minutes on a hot stage! I concur with Robb, though -- one of my ex-girlfriends swore that she could tell when I entered the room by my natural scent [no cheezy jokes about taking a bath, ppl! :] and I could do likewise; she always washed her hair with the same kind of shampoo, and it was a big pleaser. - -- | Greg Dunn | "Information is not knowledge; | | gregdunn@indy.net | knowledge is not wisdom; | | GregDunn@aol.com | wisdom is not truth." | | http://members.aol.com/gregdunn/ | -- Frank Zappa | ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V1 #506 ***************************
