Not MORNING (ie, early in the day) cigarette, but MOURNING (ie, grieving) cigarette (possibly for your lost lung or the parent who died of lung cancer?). Any of you who have never experienced a loved one or a friend slowly rotting to death due to lung cancer should spend time in a terminal cancer ward before flippantly touting the "benefits" or harmlessness of ingesting carcinogens. Smoking supports one of the most insidious businesses ever to disgrace our society. Smoking is a sign of ignorance at best, self- hatred at worst. It is also an embarrassing class issue. The rich own the tobacco stock (and run the health facilities that drain your family of all financial resources as you eventually succumb to the results your addiction), and market the products to the young, the uneducated and the poor. Once the fashionable self-destruction "kick" peaks and subsides with today's young people, the tobacco companies have targeted massive potential markets in third world countries to export this death and misery product to. Picture that, rampant cancer epidemics in countries already too poor to feed their children! The thing is, you smoke today, you fund that genocide tomorrow. In this country, the last two generations have been openly told of the dangers of smoking. Your parents and grandparents were lied to, actually sold on the health benfits (!) smoking provided! To choose to smoke today is to say either: 1) I am ignorant of the ramifications of my decision to smoke, and/or 2) I lack adequate self-love (and respect for myself) to pass up what little "benefit" (shallow image enhancement, peer pressure, temporary physical pleasure) smoking offers versus its far-reaching negative consequences on not only myself, but my society as a whole. If I've offended anyone, fine. The thing is, I give a shit for people. And if I have to piss you off to make you think, so be it. Feel free to flame me openly, I can easily argue this one to the ends of Hell and back. (And have breath to spare.) If you're new to the list, get ready for a rollercoaster ride, 'cause you'll be in for one! Sorry about the serious post, Angels. But I can't let this one go, it's too damn important. I support free choice, but if you jumped off a bridge, I'd fish your ass out of the river with or without your cooperation! - -- Dennis Harris p.s. I am very impressed by the number of EveryDay Angels who don't smoke. It says a lot about our self-respect and esteem for others. p.s.s. I am also very impressed by people with the courage and will power to quit smoking.
