Also, the system will be released in the US on Sunday, Sept.29th, not Monday the 30th. Currently, the system will be packaged with an ac adapter, stereo cable, and one controller. At this time there will be no pack-in game. Games DEFINITELY coming out on NU64's debut are SuperMario64 and Pilotwings64. It is not known whether any other games will be available. I don't know about you guys, but I DEFINITELY plan on getting this sucker! Every video game magazine has been RAVING about the system and the 2 launch games. I don't think she really would like to see him die (or believe dhis death would lead to world peace.) She did go on to say she doesn't care about parties and that sort of thing she just wishes some one would run who was more interested in others than their own self interest. Now, her debut album, "PIeces of You," has become a million-in-one-seller: It was certified platinum Aug. 6. It's a major accomplishment for the 22-year-old singer-songwriter, whose album was released in February 1995 and was decidedly soft in initial sales. Partial credit for its platinum status goes to the slow but steady success of its leadoff single, "Who Will Save Your Sou?", now No. 12 on the natioal Billboard charts. The San Diego musician's next single, also from her debut album, will be "You Were Meant for Me." It's due for release late next month, with a video shoot tentatively scheduled for Saturday in Los angeles. (Her LA visist comes midway through her tour with Neil Young & Crazy Horse, whom she opens for Sunday in New York.) Ardent Jewel fans will find news of the video shoot to be of special interest. Last year, she shot a video for the same song, directed by Sean Penn. It aired briefly on VH1, but was pulled when the grainy, low budget video for "Who Will Save Your Soul?" went into heavy rotation on both VH1 and MTV. Jewel's next day off from the Crazy Horse tour is Tuesday. She will spend part of it performing at a Rock The Vote sponsored event at the Hard Rock Cafe in Chicago, where the Democratic National Convention begins Monday. The following day, August 28, Jewel performs in Indianapolis. She is scheduled to appear on "Late Night with David Letterman" Sept. 4, and will attend the 13th Annual MTV Video Music Awards the next night at Radio City Music Hall. With any luck, she will walk away a winner, having been nominated in both the Best Female Artist and Best New Artist categories. The day after the MTV awards, she will depart for her first tour of Australia, where she will perform for most of September. After a brief return home for a rest, she will leave for an October tour of Europe, her first. Meanwhile, sessions for Jewel's secnd album were completed earlier this month in Woodstock, NY. She collaborated with Indigo Girls producer Peter Collins and a musical cast that included two ex-Elvis Costello band members and studio session drum ace Jerry Marotta. The as-yet-untitled album is scheduled for release Jan. 21. ------------------------------ From: Barnabus Heckabus? I would also like to explain to the list why exactly this is taking so long thus far: 1) Alan Bershaw is doing the mastering and he's had some logistical difficulties, including waiting for certain tapes to arrive. The tapes of the shows involved did not arrive on his doorstep in nice-and-easy-ready-to-tree packages...he's had alot of editing work to do. 2) the tree is going to be (in Ken W's words) "a huge mother" and we have some special things planned for it too. We are trying to work out the logistics of it all. 3) being the administrator, I feel I will not be ready until next week to begin the process as I've had some other business to attend to, which finishes this weekend. In a nutshell, about this time next week, I will post a message for recruiting _branches_ for this tree. PLEASE do not EMAIL myself or Alan yet for info on how to be a branch or for answers to questions about the tapes or the tree. Many questions will be answered in my "branch recruitement" post next week. It will be followed by a JewelStock Tape FAQ which I intend to post twice a week during the run of the tree, which is expected to be about four months. Lastly, we will be looking for 40 to 48 branches. The branches will be signing up for ALOT of work, as each SET of tapes (three 90 minute cassettes per set) will take 4.5 hours to dub. Because of this, those of you wishing to start trees on some of the other shows Jewel has performed in the last month 'may' wish to hold off until after the JewelStock tree has run it's course. It's just a thought/idea. Mike Connell P.S. While I said, "please no questions", I will invite _suggestions_ from folk who treed tapes before. I've already talked with MANY on this in preparation for the "Sequoia of Jewel trees", but if any of you wanna toss in some hints on your experiences at running these things, I'm all ears. (Oh no! War of the Gregs!) I've always found Deer Creek to be a very enjoyable place to hear music. Especially in comparison to some other outdoor venues I've been to. At River Bend (River-something, anyway) in Cincinatti if you're on the lawn you can't see the stage, and not due to the distance, but due to the pavillion roof being in the way. You won't have that problem at Deer Creek. And at, oh I forget the name, the outdoor venue in Cleveland that's way outside of the city... that was a great place but they *didn't* have the big, cheesy screens so that, if you were on the lawn you could basically hear but not see a darn thing. Agreed, Jewel definitely won't show her truest colors at Deer Creek over a great big screen, but I've always just accepted the reality that the nature of a lawn seat is "Hey, these seats suck, but you wanna go, don't ya?" Kinda like watching Goodfellas on laser disc in your home vs. seeing it at a drive-in. Deer Creek's food is certainly expensive, but it's never bothered me because I'm a college student and even if the food was really cheap, I still couldn't afford it! =) And, yes, the parking is ridiculously expensive and changes from show to show. - -Greg "if you're wondering, I don't own Deer Creek, but wish I did" Ooley p.s.
