Jewel was there with just Ol' Yeller. Didn't even bother to bring in Big Blue. She played for a good long time, but I never can remember all the songs after the show. I'll let Capello send you all a set list. There were two (that's right, TWO) encores. During one of these encores she played a slightly modified lyric wise "Nikos". The only change that shocked me was the removal of the word mormon from the excommunicated part. I wonder if she does this depending on where she is. You know, less tolerent areas that might not "like" the Mormons? Anyone know if she left this word out before? Well, it wasn't quite as good as JS, but this Nashville show really kicked ass. Thanks to all the EDAs and future EDAs that made it all that much more fun: Allison Bieller, Duff, Capello, Kevin Young, Kevin's brother-in-law James, Rocker (aka Robert) and his friend Mike, James Judd (even though we didn't see you much) and his companions. Kevin, I never paid you for the beer and now I feel horrible. Give me your address and I'll send you some cash. Or can I send it to the address on your business card? Yes, Carnivore was in between those songs. I had seperated it out in my notes for special mentioning. Everyone at our table was screaming for Carnivore during the show. The band ended their set and started to walk away. Jewel said, "Wait, Mark, we're going to do Carnivore." I would like to believe that we influenced this. If not (just like Jewel and the K-mart thing) I'd rather not know = ). Dennis, Bill 'DawgBoy', myself, Tammy and even Phil (I think) were singing at the topic of our lungs. We all lost our voices over it. The song was incredibly loud, I could even hear myself, let alone Dennis right next to me. So hopefully we weren't disturbing anyone. Deer Creek is a large outdoor venue near Noblesville (15 miles NE of Indy) which pretty much sucks for listening to music. As a party place for 10,000 of your friends, it's not too bad. Parking is too expensive, food is poor and overpriced, and unless you're under the pavilion roof you can't see anything. Can't imagine Jewel playing in a location where you have to watch the stage on a large projection TV if you're on the lawn. But it's probably about 4 hrs from Chicago, right off I-69 at Exit 10. - -- | Greg Dunn | "Information is not knowledge; | | GregDunn@aol.com | knowledge is not wisdom; | | GregDunn@indy.net | wisdom is not truth." | | http://members.aol.com/gregdunn/ | Frank Zappa | ------------------------------ From: NeOblCar@aol.com Date: Mon, 19 Aug 1996 13:10:22 -0400 Subject: NJC-names At the NH, it became apparent that my screen name was unpronoucable and generally confusing. We ended up with first timer, Jason Shaw. PEOPLE, YOU MUST SEE A SHOW THROUGH THE EYES OF A FIRST TIMER!! I was surrounded by people who were blown away! JS, had people who expected what they got. But NH had fans, at least the ones I sat near, who were mesmerized by the performance. They loved her. The show rocked! The only criticism I have is that the accoustics were not as clear as JS. Some of the lyrics were hard to understand. I thought that Jewel was having a great time with the crowd. The applause was huge. They loved her. It sold out! A handful of drunks were loud, but Jewel handled it well. The circumstances surrounding this show made it just as special for me as JS. IT ROCKED!! I'll still do trades as I'm always looking for more tapes. :P So if yer a newbie to Jewel tapes, wait until September 10th before mailing me about it. =) Thanks.. :) You can find out what I have in the meantime on my Jewel site at http://www.endor.org The tapes I sent out today include Debi Ellis's (next time YOU pay for the postage fer yer tapes, k? :P eheh), James Judd's (ok, just your picture), Lila Tene's, Gregg Fleischman's, and Patric Oesterheld's tapes. Lisa Schiller's and Jared Jacobus's areshould be going in the mail tommororw (Carter! I need the Bimbo's tape back so I can make a label for those two orders, eheh). Dan Kaproth's tape should be in the mail tommorrow along with Alan Bershaw's. Steve Salomon, that sucks 'bout the tapes falling out of the pacakge, but get replacements and I'll throw in two from my stash to help (i feel sorry fer u..never had that happen 'till now! ick). If you thought you had a trade thing going with me and I didn't list you above, e-mail me ASAP as that means either I overlooked you as I reviewed everything, or I lost something here or there. I still MAY be able to get it done before I leave. If I have any time left before I leave, I'll be getting a head start on Kyle's tapes to make my return to tape dubbeing more smooth. ;) So..anyone live off the I-70 from Las Vegas to Denver, I-76 from Denver to I-80, or I-80 from I-76 to I-90, or off I-90 from I-80 to Rochester that would want to meet me and/or provide a roof over our head overnight? :) I'll be driving from August 29th 'till September 3rd. Just depends on our pace as to where we are when. =) Thanks everyone who has helped contribute to my Jewel collection.. I assure you i've helped distribute them thoroughly. :> (gonna have to count my tape backs to see how many I've copied so far, ahha) Also, I miss everyone from Jewelstock.. and now I'll have a car AND be on the East Coast.. !! :) If you live within 600 miles of Rochester, NY.. and you got a convincing reason fer me to visit u on a weekend, don't be surprised if I do! ;) eheh =) *big bear huggles to all you fellow Jewel fanatics* Oh yeah..and I taped over my Chicago, IL (Metro - 10/1/95) show.. She knew enough to have her friend Bebe find someone with a Jewelstock t-shirt (Chris Snyder wandering around near the buses), ask him to get the t-shirt guy (Phil my roomie who tried to keep Dennis from accosting me while I slept), and give him a backstage pass because Jewel and co. felt bad about not giving him any tees at JS or something. We were all psyched and hoping that she would sing I'm Sensitive so that we could all cheer when she sings "we are everyday angels," but she never sang the song. I heard that Phil told her of our plans, so maybe she scrapped the song just to spite us;) But Phil was told that if we went out to the bus right after she played, we might be able to get her to sign stuff, unless there were gaggles of other people hanging around. Oh, and after the WWSYS encore, she left the stage (I thought she left pretty rapidly after both Chime Bells and this) and the lights went off but the house lights didn't come on. We kept cheering and stomping (us EDA's and some other fans) while other people milled about and left and talked; we did this for around 3 minutes while the lights stayed off. Finally guys on stage with flashlights moved around and did stuff that we couldn't see, and finally they brought up the stage lights so that the guys could see what they were dismantling. We knew the show was over then and soon after the house lights came on. My guess is that during that time when people were expecting maybe a second encore, Jewel made her escape in a car to get to a Boston airport to fly to Toronto. Serious I am being here. I returned today from New Hampshire. I traveled 13 hours to get there which won me the title of biggest Jewel freak. There is so much that I could say about the show. There are so many details that I could include but won't to save your eyes and time. There are a few things that are relevant and worth sharing. Some things maybe not said by others. Once again the EDA's were great. I don't think I was quite as shy this time. I had a great time with all of you guys. Selena was our RACE CAR DRIVER. She really loves those New York drivers and is confident that given enough time she could learn to drive just like them. Her experience was heightenend to another level by the inclusion of her wonderful little girl Krystal. I had the privilage to spend a lot of time with Selena and must say that as lovely as she is on the outside, she is 5 times as lovely on the inside. She gave me a place to stay and trusted me, surprisingly, to watch Krystal and her house while she went shopping after only meeting me once before. She said that she isn't very smart. That was the least smart thing that she said to me. She said that she does not know a whole lot about books and stuff. "Imagination is more important than knowledge" -Albert Einstein. Although I only spent two days with her I feel like I have known her forever. She is truly an Angel. Along with us was Eric (CrashBoy) and Amy (Wiggy). Eric is a realy great guy and a lot of fun to hang out with. I got a live preview of his contribution to the cover tape which prompts me to advise you all to get it. Amy (Wiggy) was a pleasure to have along. Although she was in pain she masterfully used a smile and a kind word to mask it. I didn't hear one complaint or unkind word from her. It is very refreshing to meet people like that. Now we just need to replace about a billion people with clones of her. I would like to write descriptions of everyone and how much fun we had but it would get too long. I had a great time at the show. I hollered and requested songs which is something I normally don't do. All of the EDA's were very considerate but I can't say the same about the rest of the crowd. I think they were generally appreciative but I really didn't like the fact that they hooted and hollered during songs. I was very angry when a group continued to talk during Fragile Flame. Personally I don't think Jewel really liked the crowd. She didn't really seem to talk to the crowd like I have seen in the past. She was great as usual but there were a few more songs that I would have liked to hear. It isn't her fault though. Any Jewel show is a whole lot better then a lot of other things I could have been doing. Comments: I prefer the acoustic version of "Sometimes it Be That Way". I do not agree with what she said about Bob Dole at the show. She said I wish Bob Dole would die. That was wrong and a very non-intelligent thing to say. She says all these brilliant things and makes so many good points but lessens the value of what she says by saying something like that. I think maybe she was just trying to be funny or maybe she thought that was the type of thing the audience was looking for. My political ideas lie in the idea that leadership might be a thing of the past. I think maybe people have become too varied and independent to want to follow someone. A leader has to be someone that the people will look up to and want to be like. Someone to model themselves after. I think peoples minds and ways need to be changed and a bunch of fancy laws just won't do it. Maybe I am wrong but their has to be a reason why leaders can't seem to lead. I heard a lady on the radio the other day after the republican convention rally thing saying that Bob Dole is exactly what the country needs as a leader because he is so wholesome and a really good person. I don't think that alone is enough. That was the best version of "Foolish Games" I have ever heard. Well that is it. Sorry for length. I could have written novels on that show. It was great, possibly rivaling JS. Rich Melko rwm126@psu.edu ################################# Jerry - You're Crazy. Kramer - Am I?
