I've never been to a Jewel concert before and am dying to go...especially after reading all about them on this list!! Thanks for the updates!! Keep them coming!! My search skills are kinda rusty, so if there is a closer venue, please let me know and also let me know if anybody wants to come with...Most of my friends just left for college...And well, i'm kinda broken up over it...And guess who was my musician of choice to listen to? She definately has a knack to make my eyes water...Or is it that I always listen to her when i'm crying? Hmmm... =) Anywhoo, I know it's not the same, but last night my crew had our tearfull goodbyes said at the Peter, Paul, and Mary concert at Ravinia...Great Singers in their own right...And the concert was a lot of fun...For those who don't know Ravinia, it's just a small pavillion with huge lawns...more garden-type i would say...and by concert time, the entire place is converted into one big blanket and many candle lit dinners...very nice...A place i would kill to her jewel, but i think she's outgrown these small type of places...too bad...I think it would have been perfect...i think i would have enjoyed it more if in the back of my mind i knew this was the last time i would be seeing my closest of close friends for the last time before we all leave for college...Sigh, But i digress... One last thing...The three at the concert with tapes, please step forward for those of us who didn't have the luck to go... =) Thanks. joe P.S> Sorry for that weird last post...It was relating to the relationship thread that was going on a little while back...i guess it was a little delayed in sending. I'll try to be brief. The venue was a hole in the wall, but Dean and I had good seats, although we almost ended up brawling for them. (I think I could have taken the older lady Dean, but you might have had problems with Mr. Picky Picky) We lucked out with the seating, because a small group of EDA's got to sit near each other. It was really nice meeting Capello, Duff, Rocker, Mike, Kevin and his brother in-law James. It was also nice to meet James Judd, but all I said to him was hi. I then went to the restroom, and never saw him again. Where were you James? I was shocked that the show was as good as it was. Don't get me wrong, after Jewelstock, I was afraid everything else would be a disappointment, but Jewel continues to amaze me. Nobody yelled for her to yodel, at least not that I heard, and she did sing Chime Bells. She also sang Nikos,(sorry about your arm Dean) in which she changed some of the lyrics. She didn't say his name in it, she took out the word mormon, and she changed the p.s. lyrics at the end, although I don't remember exactly how. Did she do this in NH? We milled around after the show in hopes of seeing Jewel, but we didn't get the chance. We did talk to Lenedra briefly. It still amazes me that she's old enough to have a daughter that's 22. Hiranya, what's her secret, and can it be bottled? I'm now going through Jewel withdraw, and have to wait until the Columbus show to get my fix. Hope I can make it that long. Oh, and in case anyone was wondering, Music City Thrift Store doesn't have STL. Dean and I checked. Also, Duff's opinion does matter, but not when she's in the back of my car. So, for list purposes, it does matter. :) Allison ------------------------------ From: Dan Stark Date: Mon, 19 Aug 1996 01:06:27 -0400 Subject: Who is Alex and what book did he write? Judd" Date: Mon, 19 Aug 1996 02:18:44 -0500 Subject: Nashville review/etc Hi, Skip to [Jewel's Set] if you don't want to read my babble. I just got all caught up on my mail (whew) after my Seattle and Nashville trips, and i'm glad to see the list chugging along! My Seattle trip was good, great food, nice weather(although i hear it changes to evil depressing grey later) and the most interesting thing i learned was that most apartments up there don't have air conditioning. A shocker, but it makes sense. I headed up to Nashville with my sister and her friend about 1:00, after having trouble getting in touch with my friend in Huntsville we were supposed to pick up. Long story, but we met at the concert after i misdialed his number and he lost email at work 2 days before... We ate at Wolfies in downtown Nashville, and were pleasantly surprised the only bad thing about it was the country music, well, and the smoke. But good and they were real nice to us, even though we didn't fit in with the coyboy hats and boots. Running late for the show, we made it in about 8:15 but the opening act hadn't started. I don't know who that was, but he didn't do it for me. Maybe it was since i was stressed a bit or the fact that the crowd was loud during his set. Dunno. Anyone like him? I saw Duff and Capello and a Harris and Rocker there among others (sorry, but i've forgotten the names of some) and a guy that is from Auburn and is in my major. That was pretty neat. He's not on the list yet, but we'll see about that, right Rocker ;) Did anyone get any questions about their shirts? Not me. So about his third song i see my friend from Huntsville that we couldn't contact and i felt all better. He wanted to chat so we went outside to the outer bar area which connected with the performance hall. I saw an old buddy from here who works on the network at Vandy and couldn't believe it- i didn't even know he was a fan! Turns out he visited my page once while he was bored and then found all y'alls and liked her! So our pages are working after all! Yippee! He was very nice and let us all stay the night there and showed us the town- very kind. Anyways, [Jewel's Set] I was not looking forward to a good show since the room was VERY smokey and Jewel is alergic and all. Plus the rowdy, non-attentive crowd during the opening act was not very promising. I found out the show hadn't sold out beforehand as my local friend got a gen-admin ticket at 8:30. It was his first show as well as my sister's friend's so i was kinda anxious. But when Jewel came out she tamed the crowd very well. She seemed very interactive, telling good stories and singing alot of songs it seems. It was very cool since the place was medium sized (400 people?) and the band wasn't there. She didn't even have Big Blue, just Old Yeller. The only thing missing was the feathers and it could have been just like the old days (yah, like i know what that was like! :/) I can never remember set lists, and don't like to interfere with my enjoyment by writing them down- where are you other angels that were there? Let's here from you guys! :) Things that stuck out for me.. - - Left out "Mormon" in her line, "excommunicated from the Morman Church" - - heard Chime Bells for the first time live (my sis and friend insist that she said it was the next single?!?! I think they're crazy. I was pretty sure it was YWMFM she was talking about- anyone get a boot?? I'd love a copy... for bragging rights and enjoyment! :) - - FINALLY heard I've Got the Blues More Than You Do Blues live, and she had to watch her hand and did very well even though she said "I suck at that" afterwards very matter-of-factly (hee hee) (BTW, if i hadn't requested Jessica at JS, it would have been this- i think it's such a cool variation on her traditional style, even though it's a mouthful to scream as a request :) - - She did great encores, and made us work pretty hard for the last one. - - Finally saw her cuss and flip some people off- made it even more time warpy for me. - - Everyone saying "Awwwwwwww" when Duff went up to the stage to give her traditional gift to Jewel- she said she saves them for when she goes backstage and feels lonely or something to that effect when people asked what it was. - - Cold Song and Race Car Driver- two songs my sister and friend wanted to hear but i didn't expect. Guess that's about it. I was very happy with the show- only one bad shout out from some luser behind me when Jewel asked for a medium pick... you can imagine what he said... people were fairly quiet until the end of the show when Jewel got quiet trying to sing and couldn't compete :( Sis (2nd show for her) and her friend, Huntsville friend and Vandy friend (all Jirgins) were all impressed with the show- naturally! :) I'm so glad i got to see a totally acoustic concert, although i kinda wish the Jirgins had gotten to see Carnivore electric style... The least attention was given to Jewel when she sang the Swedish song, but i think it is very beautiful and crosses the language barrier well. After the show we gathered up front, and i didn't get to chat as much as i would have liked with the angels since i was entertaining guests. I missed a group picture, but capello had me pose for an individual so i didn't feel left out. :) It will be a collector's item since i am regrowing the pre-Seattle-shaved goatee. (Man, i thought Auburn had alot of goatees! Sheesh! The home of grunge is also the hotbed of the Northwest for goatees i'm sure! And i was worried about looking like a cheesy poseur in the home of grunge- HA! :) Jewel didn't come out, having hinted at that since she said she had to go record. I'm surprised she gave such a good show knowing that she had to do some more recording- how sweet! Anyway, hope you liked the review. After the show i went with my friends to a local brewery/restaurant and talked, and slept at the local's that night. You don't have to be an EDA to be an angel- that's for sure. I was feeling pretty tired after the flight the night before- we just totally surprised his wife- they were very kind. The next day my friend from Huntsville and i swang by a gun show there and met up at the largest mall in TN with my sis and friend (south of Nash on I65- pretty impressive although after a tense wandering i still think they should have restrooms on the first floor!! :) Oh, does anyone have any ideas/how have you framed your signed JS Tshirt? A shadow box? I would like to find one of the thick 60s frames in a junk shop with some blue in it for my Tshirt- that would be so cool. You know, play on the JS theme. Any ideas?
