I just wanted to let you all know that I thank you all for keeping me sane right now....(especially Sarah and Jewel). This week has been a good week but I have had 2 really bad things happen...my best friend's mom hates me and I was informed that my big brother has been stricken with something horrible(and of course I find out almost a month after everyone else in my family does). Today has been one of the toughest days of my life and fortunately I had a best friend to listen and a beautiful singer to listen to. I sat on my bed for a few hours just listening to Jewel's voice echo through my head. She made me...for a brief while...forget about all of my problems. This enabled me to cool down and really think about my problems calmly and rationally. Her voice totally relaxed me and made me fill with ease. Over the course of my whole year I have had some pretty bad things happen in my family and social life and Jewel kept me sane through all of these hard times. Without her and Sarah I would have lost it. I want more then anything just to tell her thank you...I wasn't able to the first time I saw her because I was just...uhhh...I don't know the word to describe it....mesmerized I guess. :) Ok....now that I got that out...have a nice day and/or night. I gotta stop you right there. It was a great interview. Jewel did what she does in her songs. She gave us chapters of her life in a measly 3 minutes. I never heard her interviewed before. Now I want the JS tapes more than ever especially if everything she said before, during and after singing is on it. > I believe this for several reasons. First, what she said was deep, and > does require some time spend philosophising to fully understand, and in > a 3 minute interview that just isn't possible. No one, no matter how > intelligent or enlighened you are, could digest Jewel's comments right > on the spot and completely understand them. So because she is "deep" and it takes more than 3 minutes to digest her, do you think she should have left an image of being as shallow as her host Kathie Lee. I do agree it takes more time to digest Jewel. I'm still playing POY over and over and over. > The second reason I think Jewel contributed to a poor interview is that she > was not considerate of her host or audience. Like it or not, this is a > business (is it getting hot in here, or is it just me?) > and part of the business is relating to your clients and co-workers. > Regis and KL are not known for their thoughfullness and depth (neither > is their audience, at 9:00 am Pacific time!), therefore it is Jewel's > responsibility to honor her hosts (remember, this is not *her* show) by > not necessarily making them look good, but certainly not making them > look like studdering donkeys (which in my opinion, was well accomplished > :P) You are correct in stating it is a business. Shows like this work hard to create an image that will attract an audience. This is what advertisers want and what they pay for. An artist has a purpose for being on the show and that is, to promote themselves or a product. They measure the value of doing so by several factors. Does it pay well. Shows like this usually don't. Does it have a large audience that they can be exposed to. This show has that. Can this audience benifit from my appearence and will it be good for my image. If this isn't my natural audience will it widen my appeal. The host has similar reasons. They try to get artist that will bring an audience or one that will help them develope an audience. Sometimes there reason is to help there image. You see, they need each other. Jewels only obligation is to make sure her appearence helps and not hurts her. If she allowed Kathie Lee to pidgeon-hole her as just another Joni Mitchell wanna-be it would have hurt her image. To be compared to Joni may sound flattering but it is not a correct portrayal of Jewel. Jewel is unique and one of a kind. I think Regis was in awe of Jewel and was impressed with "this Deep girl" and Kathie Lee was catty and dishonestly patronizing. > Anyone disagree, go ahead and post why...or we can take it into > the street man to man, just tell me when and where ;) > > Your Fallen Angel, > S!nj!n It wouldn't be a fair fight. Her roots were well planted and very deep. Before this, I saw only a single flower blooming. It was a beautiful flower. As I got close to her I could see she was filled with buds. Because her first flower, POY, blossomed so long ago, it was already gone to seed. This was because of all the friendly bees, that have helped to spread her nectar and pollen. There are those that have tried to force her into bloom. But she is a smart plant. There are those that wish to pluck her flowers as soon as they blossom and have them for themselves and not spread her rich nectar with all. And then there are the ones that only see her full blossom now and are looking for other flowers. But her buds are starting to show color and about to burst into full bloom, and as she grows and fills with flowers, her beauty, color and perfume will overpower all our senses. A flower named for a stone? Her blossoms will never fade for long, for she is a perennial. "Igor". Yes Kathy. "I thought you were going to watch Regis today. Everday Angels, We are tossing around an idea for color J-cards for the JewelStock tapes. (For those that may not know, "J-card" is a term for the card in a cassette box that has the songs and whatnot listed on it) We are not sure as of yet if this is logistically feasible, just brainstorming. Anyway, one of our ideas is to include a photo from the Thursday show on the first tape's J-card, and we ain't got a real good one right now. So we are turning to you guys and gals. If anyone has a good photo of Jewel from the Thursday show, we'd like to see it. (I myself would LOVE to see a good one of her and Lenedra singing "The Face of Love") While we prefer it be one of her on stage performing, it is not necessary. A real good one of her after the show will do too. It does not need to be a close up neither, if we had the negative, we could enlarge and crop it. So, if you have a good photo that you'd like to see immortalized in JewelStock history, please send it to me. I will assure you get it back in no more than one piece. If you have a negative that we'd need to use, please send it in. (Privately EMAIL me to let me know if you are sending anything, I'll then let you know when I received it) Final determination of winning photograph will depend on the highest bribe to the judges: myself, Dennis Harris and Fuzzy ;-) Remember, we are only tossing this idea around right now, we may not be able to do it. FYI, for tapes two and three, we already have what we need.
