Hello fellow EDA's, I am a digest lurker, who learned about JEWEL back in May, but really did not persue anything until just after Jewelstock. Tonight, I Plan on running a web based chat on my computer for a few hours. The objective of this is to present an easy to use way of interactively discussing Jewels music, with out worring about IRC clients, servers, etc. I only intend on running this on scheduled times at the moment. Please get your POY cd/tape out and have it ready to play at aprox. 7pm est. I will instruct every one present to start their music all at the same time, then we can discuss the music as it plays. Sorry about such short notice, I just got an ether card (Not about to do this over modem) & permission from work (an ISP in northern Michigan) to do this before I leave on vacation for a week. I become wired when lack of sleep permeates through my veins and I have to move around constantly to stay awake! sort of like JewelStock (tm) <*ding*> it's peculiar when someone never utters a word to you, and then the first words from their mouth is an accusation. but, i digress. I thought it was hilarious. For one thing, i am completely drug-free, unless you want to get specific and say that endorphins and other bodily-produced enzymes are drugs. then we are all "druggies". but the point i have is, why would i need drugs, when i'm already messed up? (this happens about once a month) my own personal freak-out day, or weekend. monsoon! is what i shouted. the faces by the scaffold pouted. a bit of a drizzle today. rain, blowing side to side. drenching the pourous mangled skin into an oblivion of sticky glee. hmm, what did i just say? oh, it rains in Louisville, only the rain doesn't know it supposed to take it easy, and not try to flip my car over, with me inside the ride to waterworld. JEWEL CONTENT i didn't think i'd have any Jewel content. i'm not sure anymore, sometimes i'm not intriqued with her, and sometimes i am. Her music, i adore, but i can't seem to figure it all out. maybe mysteries are not ready to be revealed. i think it would be best if i didn't know anything about her personal life. i know, i would want the same privacy. anywho. i was trying out some new riffs yesterday. and was wondering what Jewel would sound like if she went "electric". i don't know if she ever will, but i think it would be cool. maybe when she's ready. as much as i like the guitar from it's natural tone, without electricity, i become bored with it sometimes. i think Jewel's greatest asset comes from her vocal talent. It always carries the song, and the guitar is a minor part. so i'm writing and playing and singing in this falsetto, nasal, whining tone, and i could have sworn it was punk country, just for a millisecond. then i started to howl in laughter. too bad the 4-track didn't get it , i'm still searchin' for the missin' microphone. i suppose the world can live without my vocals. :} actually, i'm going to compose a song based on my name, jeremy. well, jeremiah. hmm, biblically an emotionally tortured soul. ah, thanks mom! but, interested parallels, none the less. i think i wrote too much, but i don't care. this probably would u/l anyway. but... .be on your own, be all alone. PLEASE read this ENTIRE post BEFORE you email me about anything. I apologize for its length, but I'm going to try to answer as many questions as possible in this one post. For now, it will be an audio only tree. Although Skinny Pete & crew did a really wonderful job on the videos, there are no plans for distributing them now. The videos may or may not be used in some as yet undecided future project. All the songs (EXCLUDING the electric sets & Patty Griffin's set) from BOTH nights will be included on this set of cassette tapes. Due to the amount of expected requests, this tree is going to be a mindblowing amount of work & we are going to need everyone's patience & co-operation to do this in a somewhat organized way. At this point, I am just beginning to assemble the tapes from the various sources used to master the shows. The majority of it is on DAT, but missing parts need to be taken from videos and even a cassette for one short segment missing on the other masters. All of it is yet to be assembled, but I will begin doing it next week. Regarding distribution: We have 4 totally responsible main sites (Dan S, Mike C, Richard C & myself). I'm sure everyone agrees that all in this group of 4 has the lists best interests at heart. We will each make at least 10 sets of the tapes which are going to be 3 X 90 minute cassettes, probably. These will go to 40 branches who will supply us their 3 blanks & self adressed return postaged mailer. To be a branch you'll hopefully have 2 decent quality cassette decks & you must BE WILLING to do at least 10 more sets of Jewelstock tapes for others, who only need supply you with thier own blanks & return postaged mailer. Most will be USA branches, but at least 2 Canadian branches will probably be needed as well as a "non-North American branch". This setup alone will get approximately 400 copies of the tapes distributed fairly quickly. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT contact Dan, Mike or me with any tape requests or to volunteer to be a branch now. Those requests will ONLY be co-ordinated & processed BY THE ADMINISTRATOR of the tree. The administrator has been chosen and he will announce instructions when the tapes are ready. We are shooting for shortly after Labor Day. Colin is helping me & the administrator in an advisery manner this time since he's already helping you all on the other trees. He is not taking requests on this one so do not contact him on this. He or I cannot answer ANY requests for the tapes at this point. We really want to make everyone happy & to do this as smoothly as possible. Any suggestions or improvements to these ideas are welcome. And I'll closely pay attention to all list posts regarding possible improvements. ALL copies of the treed tapes will be in cassette format. There will be NO DAT or Hi Fi Videotape copies available at Jewel & Lenedra's specific instruction. I know this will piss off a few, but there will be no debating this. Lastly, I ask you all to PLEASE keep this tape to yourself & other EDA's. This is a very special gift from Jewel & Lenedra and it is best if it stays among us. It's not a promotional tool and need not be circulated outside this group of friends. It's prefered that it stays that way to avoid bootleggers gaining access easily to this high quality material. You are still being trusted with material likely to be used on the forthcoming album. I personally consider it a rare priviledge and I hope you do too. Also, PLEASE do NOT discuss making CD's of this material on the list (even at cost for fellow EDA's or any of that). It will definately be defiantly ignoring our wishes if you do. All we can say is "please" on this, but we trust this "one of a kind" group of people & can only hope you'll be respectful on this touchy subject. So, all that "Mr BB sounding" stuff said, I very much look forward to getting these to all of you. They are truly wonderful. It will happen! In closing, let me settle the Jewelstock encore debate. There were 2 (although one of them long) encores on Thursday & 3 on Friday. Its the truth. Best wishes to all. -Alan ------------------------------ From: Chris3255@aol.com Date: Thu, 8 Aug 1996 21:21:20 -0400 Subject: Re: hehehehe In a message dated 96-08-06 21:37:15 EDT, you write: << i would also like to include some of my ex-girlfriends if I may....hehehehe >> your ex-girlfriends, try anyone's ex-girlfriends. You don't like Jewel? Nothing wrong with that. If we all liked the same things, it would be boring. When we go into our favorite record stores, most of us look for a good selection, diversity and someone that knows enough to help us find new things.
