Anyway I partially agree with Kevin. Jewel's attraction lies not in her inherent beauty but in her facial expression. Be it sensuality, honesty, trust, openness, or whatever I am not exactly sure. But it is definately in her expressions. Tom Silak P.S. The quality of Jewel's singing and songwriting far excedes any physical manifestation of our angel. It's worse then any physical pain that the huan body is capable of feeling. We are ignoring and excluding the jewelbomber and that's why she is upset. Jewel treats us like we were her personal friends and we act like her friends. Maybe if we except MJB as one of us she will act like one of us. I feel that she's doing REALLY, REALLY well considering she's only been writing songs for a little while. An artist finds challenge in creating images that have never been created before. This is what makes songwriting challenging. Using something like "the stepping stone of life" to describe a stage of life is really overdone. Jewel would never use something this cleche but I'm merely illustrating a point. With time, she will only get better as we sit back and watch. It's the same thing with her songs. The chords G to F# to Em to C to D are used in about five songs. With time things will change. Paul Westerberg didn't start by writing the genious lyrics he does now overnight. He learned how to express certain thoughts. ------------------------------ From: gregdunn@indy.net Date: Wed, 7 Aug 1996 01:30:55 -0400 (EDT) Subject: [none] Hello again Everyday Assholes! Tori Amos is the most brilliant artist that I have ever heard (there's Jewel, too, but she's much newer than Tori) :) I guess that some people don't really understand nor take the time to try to understand the meaning that Tori Amos puts in her music. Some of her songs have helped people so much, such as "Me And A Gun" where she describes her own rape... this experience led her to creating an organization called R.A.I.N.N (the Rape Abuse and Incest National Network) which has helped so many people so many times. That's just a brief example of what Tori does for her fans. To say that her "sexuality" is what makes her fans appreciate her is so unjust... it's her words, her feeling, and her emotion and dedication to her music. ------------------------------ From: Leave the shadows dancing Date: Wed, 07 Aug 1996 02:07:59 -0500 (EST) Subject: NJC: Initials Actually.. ever since my freshman year of colleg,e I've been called GAK almost as much as my name.. I just heard this album for the first time tonight... one of the girls I work with brought it in, and I listened to it while doing the afternoon deposit. I would agree... it's definitely a good album, although I cannot, in all honesty, say that the earth moved or anything while I was listening... The only song that I didn't really care for was the rendition of Amazing Grace that Ani does... call me a purist, but an almost-dance-mix rhythym just doesn't do anything for the song. :) On the whole, Dilate is a solid album, but I don't think I can honestly say that everybody should go out and BUY IT NOW. :) Pretty much all of the songs aside from Amazing Grace I thought were good to great, and well worth listening to, but like I said, I don't think it's an immediate pressing need... :) - ---------- Kevin Pease "'C'est la vie,' said the old folks, kestrel@WPI.EDU it goes to show you never can tell..." ------------------------------ From: Bananas and gravy- yum Date: Wed, 07 Aug 1996 01:49:54 -0600 Subject: MJB NJC gregdunn@indy.net wrote: > > Hello again Everyday Assholes!
