I've heard that myself quite a few times and I simply mention "she sings beautifully too." And most of the time I get blank stares, but I simply leave it at that. I can't chastise people for that. I'm not so superficial to put down superficial people and think they're bad just because they're superficial sometimes. (did that make any sense?) And, odd as it may sound and please don't take this the wrong way, I don't happen to think that Jewel has the body of a goddess. Though certainly she is goddess-like for her faith and her poetry. But to me, her looks aren't really anything to drool over. Not that she's not good-looking, as any person who is beautiful inside radiates a certain outward beauty as a result. As for being defensive of Jewel... I react to criticism of Jewel usually with a harsh look or snide comment about blasphemy. More often I am *offensive* regarding Jewel. Such that I've gained a reputation for completely overwhelming people with my Jewel obsession. Tossing Jewel quotes at every moment, rambling incessantly about her, forcing people to listen to her music, etc.... Funny, though, no one's yet told me to stop. ;-) BTW: I was on the list a couple months ago under the name "etienne" if anyone remembers (yeah, right...) That's the problem with such dynamic prolific song writers as Jewel; you can't turn your head without missing something. ...and for those keeping track of favorites, chalk me up for most of the ones everyone else has said, minus a few, plus Francis Dunnery and Poe who haven't been mentioned yet. - ----- telliamed@juno.com <-- ps.
