Yes, he is clearly right, I offer as evidence my experiences from the early 1980's. Before the advent of CD's, the audiofile hi-techies best investments were half-speed master LPs and real-speed cassettes, the best arguably manufactured by Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs, whose CD products you can now find in stores. I own 6 of those hi-tech cassettes and 120 half-speed mastered LPs. (ALL kick-ass I might add) The following is a direct quote from their brochure from 1982: "Each Original Master Recording High Fidelity Cassette is custom duplicated in "real time" (1:1), the same speed at which you normally hear music. Standard, mass-produced pre-recorded cassettes are high-speed duplicated at up to 64-times the normal listening/playing speed...resulting in a definite loss of fidelity from the original tape" Now I do not have a dual-deck machine, but accordion to Mr Bossy-Bossy it is just double speed when you choose high-speed. I can guarantee you though, there IS a loss at double-speed, and from what I understand you cannot encode a high-speed dub with Dolby. So WHY dub at high speed? I'll guarantee you right now, that when we tree out the JewelStock tapes, copies I dub for anyone will be at normal-speed and with the noise reduction of your choice from my machines choices. One last thing, please stop posting questions and/or EMAILing me and Alan Bershaw about the JewelStock tapes. We'll let you know when they will be available. They have not been delivered to Alan yet and we are not sure as to when that will happen, although we anticipate it to be within a month. Religion without a temple No place to take my worship to No God for my eyes to see At first I thought that it was just referring to religion in the general sense (one interpretation) but it doesn't seem to work right that way. I think that religion, as it is mentioned, is more of the religion of caring for or loving someone. More of a metaphore to actual religion. Religion without a temple meaning loving someone but not having a place to proclaim the love. Nowhere for the love to grow since the person is gone. How do you let someone know that you love them when they are gone? It is kind of weird because I think Jessica can be either the temple, the god, or both. Or maybe religion is used as the metaphore. Religion without a temple is like love without the person there to love, worship being a metaphore for love. No God for my eyes to see is just continuing the metaphore. I think that is it. What do other people think? Maybe I am looking too deep into this. I know her lyrics are pretty straight forward but this one makes me think. There are others but I don't want this to be too long. I will save them for another time. That must be me because she also wrote me a private email about it. I thought I put a NJC in the subject but I may have forgotten. I am sorry if I did. When I first read this I was pissed and was going to flame but I thought about it. I don't write stuff like that often. If it is a really bad practice to, please let me know and I will never waste peoples time again. It just happened that a lot of stuff ran through my head that day, plenty more then I posted. I know that I am not the only person that writes a non Jewel post every once in awhile, which puzzles me as to why she picked me out. I also think that when people subscribe to the list that there should be something explaining the nature of the list and the meaning of NJC in the subject line. It does not bother me that she thought my thoughts for the day were stupid. I am kind of used to that. If you are loking for only Jewel news, you will be happy to know that there will soon be a Jewel news only list that you can subscribe to so you don't have to read my stupid ramblings. BTW She was the only negative thing I got so that tells me something and I do post relevant things sometimes too. Rich Melko rwm126@psu.edu ################################# Jerry - You're Crazy. I For some reason when I first heard this line, I only thought of it in the metaphorical sense as you described it. temple & God = Jessica; religion & worship = love or friendship. I actually never thought about it in the literal sense. So the way I perceived these lines were in the reverse order of you, Rich. Strange. jason szeto ------------------------------ From: "Colin J. You are actually right on target, Rob. Most Hi Fi Stereo VCRs approach the quality of DAT & are far better than the average quality cassette deck. The KEY is they must be Hi Fi Stereo VCRs. For many years prior to DAT, Beta Hi Fi & VHS Hi Fi was used for serious proffessional AUDIO recording. It's also great for 2 hour(or more) of uninterupted recording & can easily be programmed to come on & tape an FM broadcast when you're not at home. Super VHS tape is what is used for ADAT recording(which is what was done by Atlantic Records at Jewelstock in that mobile unit that was adjacent to the building). The line "Dreams last so long . . . even after > you're gone" is one of those that just sitcks in my head. Great song. Wow this was written over a week ago. And Hiranya has already told us that the new version does have the "dreams last" line in it. But I want to tell you kids a little story. It's about a fabled song released as a fated single many months ago. It was acronymed YWMFM. And in this juan patino-ized version of the ditty, there was something missing. Those lines about dreams lasting so long even after you're gone were mysteriously absent. Even when the troubadour Jewel performed it live on the radioactive box on shows such as Conan Obrien and Mike and Maty, the lines were still AWOL. But her concert performances still rang true with the words as originally written. And now we have been assuared by the woman with a Sanskrit pseudonym (is it sanskrit? I dinnae ken remember) that the line has returned. The end.
