I saw a show once explaining the theories behind electrical recording (both audio and video). They had a great demonstration where they showed after the 8th or 9th generation of regular recording the total "data" or "imprint" was lost on regular speed, it was like half that for high speed. Even though the loss between generations was almost indiscernible. Listening to that sax, I started thinking of Ella Fitzgerald, because she sings like Coltrane plays. Then, of course, I thought of Jewel and her love of Ella's style. [from "The JewelStock Concept" at JewelStock Online] since i have had some email crises lately, i don't know if i missed mention of this before. HAS IT BEEN MENTIONED HERE ON EDA BEFORE THAT JEWELSTOCK PERFORMANCES MAY GO ON THE ALBUM???? that would fully explain why band performances are not available to be treed until after the album is released. a few days back i was talking to a friend who explained to me that jewelstock would be the perfect opportunity to record tracks for the album for a number of reasons there would be a very quiet and attentive audience that would also applaud very loudly. also, the band would be pretty tight from playing with each other in the studio. i think my friend's theory full explains the delay in treeing the performances. if this has been mentioned before, i apologise for wastin' your time, but i saw no mention of this until i looked at the JS Online web site thanks for listenin' peace, dave ------------------------------ From: Rafa the archangel <75271.2740@CompuServe.COM> Date: 01 Aug 96 13:02:29 EDT Subject: NJC OR JC THAT'S THE QUESTION!! I took 3yrs of spanish in HS about 30 yrs ago, so I'm pretty rusty but can usually get the main idea. So, I read the poem in English first, then in Spanish. Paul Kim may have started something dangerous. I am now officially begging for Jewel to appear in the Triangle area of North Carolina (which, by the way, was voted the #1 place to live last year, or the year before, or the year before, etc.). Jewel was supposed to play in Raleigh in May, but the show was cancelled and she played at Virginia Beach. Chapel Hill would be a great place for her to play. It's a major college town. Pretty good music scene here. In fact, I think Ben Folds Five, the group opening with Jewel for Neil Young, is from Chapel Hill. If she wants a small venue, the Lizard and Snake is great (I saw Emmit Swimming there; it's a great small venue). If she wants a bigger place, try Cat's Cradle. Groups like Allgood, Letters to Cleo, and Garbage have played there recently. I personally think Lizard and Snake is better because Cat's Cradle is usually too drunk and wild for Jewel's liking. If she doesn't want to hear "YODEL!!" from the crowd, Cat's Cradle wouldn't be great. I'm sure there are a lot of good places in Raleigh, too. And since I have yet to see Jewel, I beg someone to get Jewel to play this area. We'll leave the light on, and thank you for your support. :) ed ------------------------------ From: PAUL KYUSAM KIM Date: Thu, 01 Aug 1996 17:33:11 -0400 (EDT) Subject: re: requests Just wanted to point out that my post to which ed referred was a burst of excitement and that it wasn't a plea to get Jewel to play in the area. The query to Hiranya was said in mild jest because I had written to her about how to get Jewel to play here before. And I also want to point out that I am the Program Board chair at Amherst College and take care of booking entertainment here at Amherst College. I found out through the advisor who keeps contact with agents and middlemen that Jewel was available and he knows how much I like her and he said that we'll go for her. Ed, if you really want her to play there in Chapel Hill (and the Ben Folds Five is a phenomenal group out of Chapel Hill), I suggest you talk to the owner or the booker of the club you want her to play and convince them to book her.
