I mentioned this at some point thursday, but I thought it'd really hit home now that I've MET them. I honestly , swear to God, got the silly idea in my head that Dean & Dennis were 15 year old twins from the midwest. Maybe it was all the bickering back and forth, I don't know. And even when I realized that one of them was running the JS web site, I figured he was an especially precocious 15 year old twin. Imagine my reaction when Dean came and sat next to me, and appreciated the beauty of my bubbles. Dennis came lurching into the area where I was sitting, and I happily asked "Hi !! Who are you ???" to which he replied "I have no idea" and ran away. Dean didn't even bother clarifying for me. Oh well. What do you want from a coupla 15 year old twins from the midwest ? I was messing around with Adobe last night and using my scans(which aren't on the web yet :P) to put my 3 pictures of jewel i already got back(more pics coming thurs) all together like they were the 3 jewel sisters hugging sideways. It was pretty cute but very amateur looking- i may just have to spend a few hours saturday doing a good job of it- it would be good therapy and a cute building point for a title graphic for my shots from JS i want the world to see. Oh yah, i want to get a pic of Fuzzy sideways, and i'll fake the kissing shot from memory. It was quite memorable, especially when jewel was shy about doing it again for the camera once our surprise wore off. Hmm, or maybe it's best left up to the imagination. Ask Fuzzy for me if he minds. Maybe it's a bad idea altogether since jewel didn't re-pose. Nevermind. There was something else.... oh yah, i think Steve Poltz and Jewel did go out for a while- i heard something to that effect. I honestly don't think anyone is good enough for her from what i know of her. Let's hear some times when jewel was mean or something so i don't have this warped angelic view of her! Come on old timers, besides her being mean to hecklers/drunks in bars (which is justified), has she ever spoken an unkind word? Hello everyone, This is your friendly neighborhood beach bum, Kyle with a little info of this event. 1. Make sure you wear a blue ribbon and/or attach one to your car. This way, we can recognize our own. I guess we can meet near the big stage (seashell thingy) before the show to get in line together. 2. Get here early. I can't stress this enough. Lines at the Casino form REALLY FAST! I've been there and one minute, no one is in sight. Then just like people going to JewelStock, they all appear. 3. I have an idea (and would appreciate your feedback). There is a really cool guy at the end of the Casino walkway, who does charactures of people. This guy is truly incredible. Anyways, he will draw a 10" x 11" drawing, in color, for about $10. If you would like, I can find a really good picture of Jewel, and have him draw it so we can try to give it to her as a gift after the show. I'll get it in advance and have it framed. This however, is just a thought. If enough people want to do it, I'll go ahead and get one. If you have a good picture, or know of one and how to get a hold of it, email me at c-chase@.nh.ultranet.com (or if you even feel like calling me, my # is 603-895-4551). Email me either way with your feelings about this. 4 (dependent upon #3). Okay, I'm working on a little project. (Oh no, not ANOTHER one.) I have a friend in higher manangement who works in the Ashworth By The Sea. Many of the performers who play at the Casino, also stay at the Ashworth. I was thinking that if we decide to go ahead and make the characture of Jewel, we might be able to meet her in the Ashworth (like in the lobby or something) to give it to her after the show. HOWEVER, THIS HAS NOT BEEN CONFIRMED THAT SHE IS STAYING AT THE ASHWORTH OR NOT. As soon as I find out, I'll let all of you know. (Is this okay?) 5. Undetermined as of yet. :p That's about it for now. If you have any questions/concerns about anything, I'll get you the answer somehow. If I don't know the answer, I'm sure I know someone who does! =) Hope to see all of you there! I was very happy with the way people responded to the design, I hope everyone liked them (or at least no one hated them). Unfortunately, I am going to have to charge $15 for the shirts now to help cover shipping and handling, all the time this is going to take, and recover from the large number of shirts I gave away to Jewel, Lenedra, Patty, the Bearsville people, etc. So here is the deal on ordering shirts. Send me an email with the subject "T-Shirt Order" in it give me your name, address, and the number/sizes of shirts that you would like (all sizes will be availible from s-xxxl). I will send you the address to send your check or money order, and confirm your order. I will take order until August 4th. My feeling is that if you weren't at least on the list when JS took place your won't be able to get a shirt. If people are happy with the JS shirts and trust me I will be willing to tackle the mailing lists shirts after I finish up with the JS ones. She is in a yellow tee and black pants. And i might add that she doesn't look very thrilled either. This little news magazine comes out of New York City. Selena ------------------------------ From: Selena Martin Date: Tue, 23 Jul 1996 19:19:36 -0700 Subject: Memories of JS This is funny. I was so anxious to meet the Harris fellas and Mike Connell and Akira. Mike-late 30-40, Akira was early 20, and Harris guys, a red head, bad hearing in one ear, and who knew about the other. When Barry and I got to Pinecrest w/Crunch, I wanted so bad for someone to still be up at 1:30-2AM. We even phoned ahead and told the bartender to keep any Jewel people up. We are enroute! We walked in and their were 4 people at the bar. The one had a goatee and I just KNEW that had to be the t-shirt guy. He said he had a goatee. I wanted to ask him, but didn't. And the other 3 didn't say anything immediately, so I wasn't sure. Turned out the t-shirt guy wasn't the guy there, but the other 3 were Rocker (which was great because we had arranged some trades!) and Andrew Levenstein, who turned out to be really really nice. Really nice. And looked exactly like Seinfeld. And my mind musta been so geared to meet a Harris because I thought they said that Dan Stark was Dean! What good fortune!! I thought I'd met Dean. I was starting to warm up to Dean, when they told me it was not Dean. It was Dan. OMIGOD! Dan Stark! What good fortune! I insisted to them all that the guy w/the goatie was on the list. Nope. Later, a group of 20somethings came in. An Oriental guy made eye contact with me. So did some others. IT's AKIRA!! YES!! Why doesn't he make himself known??? I make more eye contact. Akira, you can acknowledge yourself. We are friends. Not Akira. The next day, Stephen Ivy, Barry and I, and a couple from Manhattan, (I can't remember his name, but he is a regular) were outside of the lounge. A professional looking man comes walking in with a briefcase. MIKE CONNELL!! YES!! I insisted to Stephen and Barry that Mike is inside there. Honest, he made eye contact. The age is right. He is talking to the bartender in a familiar way, as if he is planning for the party tonite. So I decide I will introduce myself. He was not Mike. Hey, he could've been. And Rich Melko. I was really looking for him. I musta told Crunch at least one hundred times to look for Rich. And look for the 6ft. tall girl. He found them both. I finally met Mike Connell. He got a great big hug! And when I met BOTH Harris'-not in the same place, I was in heaven. And Dennis got a huge hug. He is exactly the same as he is on here. He looks like I thought he would and he talks the same. Dean is exactly as he described. He wasn't as talkative as he is here, but he's one of those guys who will slip in a really funny comment and get everyone laughing. I thought he was with his wife, but I just found out it wasn't her. Dennis wondered where Dean was, and Dean was looking for Dennis. After approaching every single 20ish guy with slanted, intense eyes, I finally got it right. I walked right up to him and said, " You're Akira" HOT DAM!! He says, "no, I'm Mike Connell"!!!! I shit you not! He set me back for just a split second. But it really was Akira. Selena ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V1 #398 ***************************
