I've managed to thoroughy confuse myself. I was going to write a post in the form of a question- you know, like what do you THINK I should do ? But then I realized that wouldn't work, 'cause it's just a lot easier to say exactly what I'm gonna do and have people work from there on. So this is what I'm going to do... ***JewelStock Guestbook*** I'm going to bring this book (and, yes, a blue Sharpie extra-fine marker ) to serve as a place for us all to write our names, addresses, and screennames. This book will be just the basic oh-mi-god-i-was-actually-there kind of books. After the concert, I will bring this book home with me, make millions of copies, use the official JewelStock t-shirt design as a cover, get them plastic-bound, and send them out to everybody who wants them. I'll be taking down names at the concert, as well as e-mail "orders". These aren't gonna be limited- you want it, you got it. I'll probably have to charge somewhere under 5 bucks, 'cause, you know, it's a lotta money to make that many copies and send 'em all out !!! I'm going to the local print shops on Monday to get prices, so I'll probably report back about it that night. After the copies have all been made, I'll send the real book to Jewel. Of course, this would require me to have an address where I can find her... hee hee. Yeah right. I'll find a way to get it to her, though. if anybody has an idea, send it on over to me, okay ? I'll probably try to go through Hiryana, if I can. JewelWorship book (or The Pieces of Jewel in Us ) This is going to be a pretty covered book, lined, like a journal, and ALSO equipped with a blue, extra fine sharpie marker. I'm going to pass this around all during the pre-show party on the 18th, as well as in Crunch's Bunch at Steve's Campground at 1:00 and post- show on thursday. I'll need a volunteer (anyone ? ) to guard it and pass it around on friday. The POINT of this book is for each of us to write to Jewel, maybe even in letter form, what she and her music mean to us (I'm sure that wasn't proper grammar. Oh well.). If you don't want other people reading your private thoughts, bring a letter to Jewel in an envelope, and I can tape it to a page in the book. This way, EVEN ANGELS WHO AREN'T COMING TO THE SHOWS can be included- just send me an e-mail containing the letter you'd like Jewel to get from you. I think that our demi-gods, the mighty three that have organized this bootiful event for us, should present to book to Jewel friday night during the show. So that's it. Anybody have any idea, email me please. I'll probably get the Pieces of Jewel in Us book from W1GGY2, who's offering me velvet and sparkle covered journmals for free... oooohh... Hey, if anybody can think of a better name then Pieces of Jewel in Us, send it this way. I never said I was good at tricky names. But, um, then again, has anybody ever said they were ? Hoo boy... But you'll probably recognize me as Paul Kim. I mean, doesn't everyone know what Paul Kim looks like? Sure they do. And if you don't, you'll be pleasantly surprised when you find out that I am the twin sister of Quasimodo. I talked to the Dean of the Campus Center who actually takes care of the contracts for bookings acts here, and he said that the Bearsville Theater or whatever it's called is great. He saw Natalie Merchant there before she went on tour two years ago (before her solo album came out), and said it was a great show. And he said that the studio was the same place that Dave Matthews recorded his recent album and that while he was there, he often went to one of the small cafes (I think it was the Tinker Street Cafe, for you ectophiles) and jammed there for free and just for the heck of it. So. Can we gather before two oclock at the venue? And are those JewelStock t-shirts just for listers? I would hope so. Hey Alan Bershaw, don't forget my tape of Susan Werner! I got the money for your -ahem- beverage. But I ain't old enough to buy it for you. Judd" Date: Fri, 12 Jul 1996 20:02:10 -0500 Subject: my take on the news list Please hear me out, Several people have expressed concerns that it would hurt the list to separate it- but the fact is that the additional list if done properly would not hurt us at all, but add to our cause. (supported below) Please think of the fans who would love to find out when jewel will be in concert or on TV and can't simply because they don't have the time to devote, or maybe the resources. Some people do pay per minute of access. There may be more people here who wish to have only one list, but that's because most people who would benefit from it (which helps spread jewel's name/teachings/popularity) aren't here to fight for it. A supplimental, moderated, announcement only list with one line or two per post directly related to appearances with no names would draw a much larger subscription not because it's better- just feasible for more people- and therefore we should have it IMO. But it should be Announcement Only- stuff like concert reflections would be here. Concert lists sent here AND there. I honestly don't see how anyone could be against such a beast as long as it has only news items, no discussion. They would hit both lists, we're talking about filtering out the part that makes people unsubscribe, that's all. I mean we would have only about 15 posts this year so far on the other list if my memory is correct- when she had a magazine article, leno, late night, frisbee, etc. Thanks for reading, and think of the once-angels that couldn't keep up, James(who wouldn't unsubscribe but is in favor of another list) __________________________________________________________________________ Computer Science/Engineering www.eng.auburn.edu/~juddjam Auburn University Auburn, Alabama Eng. And if you're still reading this, let me say, on the record: AMEN! to Christopher Stotesbury's post entitled "to stop the sparks." So, now that that is over with, I must write this. I just returned from a screening of "Courage Under Fire" and have to say, it is one of the best movies I have ever had the privelage to see. If anybody has the chance, go see it. If you have a choice between some other movie (such as the mega-hit "Independence Day") pass it up and see "Courage..." I guaranty the story and acting surpasses any other movie out there right now (except maybe "Phenomenon" as I have not seen that). Just to make sure everybody understood that, I will reiterate, go see "Courage Under Fire." That out of the way, I'll leave you all to your daily regime. Dan sent me Patty's CD a few weeks ago (it's not available yet here in Canada, or at least it wasn't then). For those who don't know about her, Patty is INCREDIBLE. I rank her CD "Living With Ghosts" as my #1 CD acquisition of the year so far. If Patty is anywhere near as good live as she is on CD, we are in for a *real* treat. I haven't been as excited about an up-and-coming new artist since I saw an unknown artist named Jewel at a coffeehouse in Toronto one and a half years ago! If not, don't worry. Anyway, enough about me, on to me. I'm about 5'8" or 5'9" with a little too much (not as much as I used to have) brown hair and bluish eyes. Other than that, I'm quite average, maybe a little skinny, but you can be the judge of that. I'll probably be wearing one of my three short-sleeved shirts and my now-oversized jeans (they fit before I contracted mononucleosis/Epstein Barr six months ago) as well as searching for cheap food. I'm very easy to miss, so if you do, I won't mind. So, for the Jewel content, I'm going to Jewelstock (hence my lack of clothing and cash) with my cousin, who, in my opinion, looks a lot like a clothed Neandertal, or maybe Cro-Magnon, but I didn't say it. We are also, hopefully, camping at Steve's with everybody else in "Crunch's Bunch" as I believe it was referred to earlier. We will also be without transportation, so if nobody would mind... maybe giving us a ride around? We are also stuck there from, as of now, Wednesday to Sunday. Is anyone else staying this long? Especially at Steve's or somewhere nearby? I would much rather keep company with somebody besides my cousin, I mean as well as with my cousin... Or something of that sort. We likely will need the seat(s) In other words, no one gets in without us having their name, or at least arriving at the door with the named list member.
