While I'm here, I might as well say a few things. First: In person, I am a very quiet and self-concious (I suppose)((did I spell that right?)) guy. I feel that I am much better at expressing myself via the writen word. However, due to all this discussion of the "news only" list, I get the vision of several dozen people taking just enough time to roll their eyes before deleting my posts. Tell me this isn't so. Having said that, I will now begin to express my opinon on the MOM CD. Last Wednesday I was in a CD store with a little bit of extra cash from my grandma. I happened to stumble across the MOM CD (in its environmentally friendly packaging), looked at the list of songs, and said to myself "Not only does it have a Jewel song on it, but it also diverts funds to a worthy cause, and I think that I might actually like the rest of these songs. It was a big step. I was about to double my CD collection, and increase my Jewel song collection by better than 6% (yeah, I used a calculator, what's wrong with that?) I listened to "Quiet Warrior" in my friend's car. I loved it, of course. When I got home I decided to play the rest of the CD through (sorry, too many british books about airplanes) thru. Noise for sixteen tracks, a brief encouter with angelic simplicity for four minutes, followed by more noise. I have, yet, to hear the last two or three songs. Fortunately I really like "Quiet Warrior." I, in no way, feel like I was ripped off because I payed more than sixteen dollars for four minutes of musical perfection. You can see how picky I am about music, and the sound waves only go into my ears (sorry). The song was in my head the whole day at work (Office "Takin' Care of Business" Depot). It sounded especially clear when I was precariously perched 30 feet off the ground on the four inch wide step of a wobbly ladder, trying not to drop a $2000 Hewelett Packard Pentium while putting it on the top shelf. I don't want to sound like an old man at 18. I have always thought that I liked a wide variety of music. But, aside from the Regea-esq songs, they are all just a bunch noisy guitar songs. The Jewel song rules though, and I would buy it just for that, not to mention that I have played(paid) a part in saving our oceans. Now, if I can pool $1000, I am set for the lifetime membership to the Surfrider Foundation. Like Dennis Miller says: "That's just my opinion. I realize it got a little hokey toward the end, but I think anyone who has been an outcast in their adolescent years will connect with this story in some way. When I was in junior high in the '80s, if you were smart or even *looked* smart (wear glasses) you were a prime candidate for a severe verbal or physical beating by your peers. You weren't treated much differently than if you were an albino. This from guys who wore spandex and girls who hairsprayed their bangs 10" high. So maybe most people don't understand this movie because they were the ones who were "cool" in school and just looked the other way or had to put down others to stay on top. I'm proud to say I was on the bottom and survived. just my opinon, of course. sabra (same would probably apply to "welcome to the dollhouse") ------------------------------ From: CJDavid@DOCKMASTER.NCSC.MIL Date: Sat, 6 Jul 96 13:29 EDT Subject: Re: covers The song was not on the Unplugged CD, but it was on the "Few and Far Between" benefit maxi-single.
