I certainly second Derrick's desire for a copy of this. That little movie snippet was not enough. Maybe since it didn't get put on the soundtrack that means that Jewel can put it on her album. She must have a copy of it, tho I don't know who else would. Anybody friends with movie people? Maybe we could get it through a friend of a friend of the music guy from the movie. She might not get caught broadcsting it, but if she does, she'll be in deep doodoo. Something to do with consent from the labels. The way it is with our radio station at Amherst is that the labels and bands send us promo copies of albums and singles, thus giving us consent to play those. We can also play official releases that we purchase, as long as they are officialy produced by a label or band. We could play something by Jewel if she independently manufactured it (that's what indie rock bands do) and released it. But something like a boot or a compilation such as Rare Angels is not an official release. Yo soy un disco cabrado "I'm a broken record" Yo tengo chicle en cerabo "I have bubblegum in my brain" that's the chorus from "hotwax", the 2nd track of "ODELAY" i recommend ODELAY by Beck, it's really innovative. more consistent than "mellow gold" and almost no curse words for those with virgin ears, but i guess that wouldn't phase you if you listen to Jewel. girl: "who are you?" man: "i'm the enchanting wizard of rhythm." girl: "why did you come here?" man: "i came here to tell you about the rhythms of the universe......" jeremy ------------------------------ From: Carter Navarro Date: Wed, 03 Jul 1996 20:02:44 -0700 Subject: Album Titles and Other Misguided Efforts Per Sinjin's request, here are droplets from my brainstorm on album titles. If any of these titles actually make it, I shall gladly hang myself for ruining Miss Kilcher's burgeoning career. 5. Swiss Miss 4. Kilcherphrenia 3. The Frisbee Incident 2. Yodelay! 1. Pieces of You 2: Electric Boogaloo No, Mike Connell, I am not available for a stand-up routine. Three reasons: 1. Citibank will send thugs to break both of my legs if I charge up the massive debt required to get me from Sunnyvale, California to Saugerties, New York. 2. I am an incredibly hideous man, and don't want to re-enact the Festival of Fools scene from "The Hunchback of Notre Dame," thank you very much. 3. I am actually quite gorgeous, but I don't like performing. So, I must regretfully decline. Give Miss Kilcher my best wishes anyway. Miracle of the Week: the UCSC mail room got my copy of US forwarded to me. Cute picture of Jewel in there, but if I had to assign a sentence to that look on her face, it would be a tie between "What the hell am I doing?" and "Hee-hee-hee-hee-ha-ha-ha-HAHAHAHAHA!" All right, that second one isn't a real sentence, but I have a noticeable proclivity to laughing hysterically over the Internet. Anyway, that's definitely a tease picture, and Jewel giggling evilly during its shoot isn't a vision far outside my imagination. Does Jenny McCarthy really deserve the fame she's getting? Since when does hosting a game show that exhibits the least attractive tendencies of our society entitle one to the cover of Rolling Stone? "Singled Out" is, if anything, a prophet of America's doom. I'd move to Iraq, but I dislike Islam's treatment of women far more than MTV's. Jewel is amassing quite a rep for soundtracks. Now she's doing the sequel to "Powder," "Phenomenon." I have been frothing like Cujo for "Independence Day" since I saw the trailer for it during "Broken Arrow"'s opening weekend. Few movies have been worth a six-month wait, but I'm happy to report that "ID4" was a blast. I urge every last one of you on this list to see it and make it the number one summer movie it deserves to be. I am in the intermediate stage of mastering "I'm Sensitive" on my father's (now my) old Ventura (which he repeatedly says "isn't a Martin, but not bad") and am now in the amateur phase of ruining "WWSYS." I also learned the prelude to the theme from "Deliverance." Boy my parents are proud of me now. I work in a library. I put books away. I lose 10% of my brain cells every hour I work there. I have worked twenty-four hours there so far. I should be dead two-and-a-half times over, yet somehow I survive. At least it's not McDonald's where my body would also be dying with the assistance of infinite Arch Deluxes. I just told Gerritt where I work. Now one of you sneaky types is going to enlist his services to get a picture of me. Damn. Better call the WPA again. - - Carter, With No Jewel NEWS or Information on JEWELSTOCK ------------------------------ From: Selena Martin Date: Wed, 03 Jul 1996 23:21:25 -0700 Subject: souveniers-Hey Mike. After patiently waiting for the RSVP ok, my computer went Bezerk!!! I lost everything. I would've been on the top 10 list of RSVP's, now it is Tuesday. And I haven't turned out to be a good t-shirt buyer for Mike because I've lost your address. So whichever Mike it is that responded to my offer to buy something for a non attendee, please respond again.
