First, unfortunately I cannot make it to Jewelstock (although I will be near Woodstock the week BEFORE and the week AFTER ARGHHHH!), so how can I add my name to the tape tree to get a copy of the performance? I have looked in the FAQ and mailed about getting some of the other boots and possibly getting into the tree, but I have heard nothing back. So I have no live Jewel yet. :( (hint, hint, can anyone help?) Second, Has anyone heard about the gig up in Toronto coming up? I heard the very end of a commercial on the radio that said Jewel was going to be doing a show with a couple other bands. Ticketmaster thinks I am nuts, and the radio station must not pay attention to their own commercials. Now a little bit about myself. I am 25, and a computer programmer in Rochester, NY. My first Jewel exposure was on VH1 (I was bored), when I saw her Aspen performance. WOW! I was hooked. Does anyone have a copy of that performance? It was only 10-15 minutes long. Anyway, I have been hoping to see her live, but life sucks, and I can't get the time off for Jewelstock. Oh well, If anyone can help, I would appreciate it. Thanks all... Ticketmaster should know about it, tickets are already on sale I think. And their Website (www.ticketmaster.ca) does list the concert, if worse comes to worst, you can order them on-line. They may not know about Jewel or the Gin Blossoms since its listed as: Q107/MCA CONCERTS CANADA NEIL YOUNG W/CRAZY HORSE RAIN OR SHINE/R126007780 OASIS & SPECIAL GUESTS MOLSON PARK - BARRIE SAT AUG 31/96 DRS 2:30PM Adult prices: 35.00 42.50 http://WWW.TICKETMASTER.CA/return/h6532387.htm Just a note about Molson Park: no lawn chairs, no coolers, no glass bottles, no cans, no big blankets. Soft shell coolers ok, plastic bottles ok. Bring lots of water (about 2.5 L per person). At Edgefest this weekend prices for food and drink were: $2 bottled water (750mL), $4 sandwiches, $5 sub-sandwich (oddly the best deal since it was big), $3 fries, $3 nachos, $3 small pizza slice. So IMO, bring your own food. Beer tents closed at 8pm. T-shirts were $30; hats $20. Lawn seating only, some areas were a bit wet. YMMV. I was able to keep the price under $10 so that's what they will cost at the show. I ordered 10 XXL's (which are $2 extra) right now five of them have been reserved if you want me to hold one for you email me. Sending the design to James so people can get a look at it (unfortunately, the gradient for big blue looks bad on the jpeg, but it looks very good on the actual print). Right now, it looks like the shirts will only be availible at the first show (unless, I don't sell them all). I only ordered 150 shirts since only 75 people confirmed that they wanted one and I can't afford to get stuck with extra's (I'm making about $.20 a shirt so in won't take many extras to cause a loss). If I do run out I will order more and sell them over the list. The sign from God occured while driving to the printer by changing the radio station several times on pure instinct I managed to hear WWSYS three time during a 25min. drive. Last time it was Tori, and i went up to the station and really enjoyed it. After chatting a bit, she thought it would be a great idea to do a Jewel show, just that there's only that one CD which is not enough for 2 hours (little PSA's are about the only thing besides music they play). It would be so cool since i could fill her in on some of the history and such behind the songs/artist... I told her about some of the tapes i have (thanks everyone!) and wanted to ask y'all two things: 1) Would it be a no-no for any reason to broadcast some of Jewel's old stuff on Rare Angels (especially) or any other tape for this theme show? 2) If you think it's ok, i'd like to get a recent QUALITY concert tape with her new stuff like Carnivore- it would be really cool to give listeners a preview of what might be on the album, and the copy i have is rather not air-worthy(not the taper's fault). Just want to add that the point of doint the show is to let people know that there's more to Jewel than WWSYS- it hooked me, but everyone's not so lucky. Akira, Bill and I have been working very hard to help Lenedra put this thing together, if you follow the instructions we put forth TO THE LETTER, the whole process will be that much smoother and easier for Akira and I and clearer for you. So please, read the WHOLE post, understand it and then reply at your leisure. I realize that a vast majority of you DO reply in the nature that we ask, but we still always get more than a few that just don't read :\ First the shows to choose from (you CANNOT RSVP for two shows, only ONE). A select few (and I mean FEW) critical workers may be at both shows, but they will be watching on one night, working the other. (If things open up a bit, we'll decide with Lenedra on how to choose who get's a second show, 'cause there likely won't be many...maybe a lottery at Thursday's show???) This holds for both shows: There are about 250-270 sitting seats, 60 to 80 standing for a total of 330 attendees. We were not able to get into the venue to check it out :\ (we were able to peer in some windows), however it "appears" that a majority of the standing rooms are in a concessions area, that is semi-seperate from the main room, but IS connected by a large viewing window. According to Lenedra it's not as bad a place to watch the show as it may sound from this post. There were seats in the concession area also. - -------------------------------------------------------------- JewelStock Show #1: When: Thursday July 18th at the Bearsville Theatre, Bearsville NY (1.5 miles west of Woodstock) Performers: opening act tentatively will be an A&M recording artist (Please note!! At this time, I have had a VERBAL OK for this thru Lenedra and Jewel, and the A&M artist has VERBALLY agreed to do this in a meeting with a JewelStock organizer. It is not "etched in stone" as of yet, but it is highly likely that this artist will appear for the THURSDAY SHOW ONLY) Hopefully, soon we'll have a confirmation and be able to announce the artist officially. The main event will be some group named Jewel, I don't know much bout them ;) Admission: FREE $0.00 FREE $0.00 FREE $0.00 FREE $0.00 Time: not set yet. Lenedra said Jewel at "nine-ish? maybe"....TBA Open to: ONLY List members and ONE guest maximum per member (sorry, limited seats) All 330 tickets are available to the list members and guest - ---------------------------------------------------------------- JewelStock Show #2: When: Friday July 19th at the Bearsville Theatre, Bearsville NY Performer: that group named Jewel again (no opening act: Carter are you available for a stand up routine?) Admission: There WILL be an admission charge, this show is to be a benefit for a fund for the restoration/operating budget of the Bearsville Theatre. The price will be in the $10-15 range, likely $15 (accordion to Hiranya) Open to: Only 200 of the tickets are available to the list members and one guest ONLY per member. Since it is a benefit for the theatre, 130 tickets are reserved for the local people of Woodstock and Bearsville. - ---------------------------------- re-RSVP Procedures: read and please FOLLOW TO THE LETTER! 1) You MUST RSVP to Akira at chi3@ix.netcom.com (DO NOT RSVP TO ME!) In the subject PLEASE put JewelStock: re-RSVP This is to make it easier for Akira to spot re-RSVPs 2) You can RSVP yourself only -or- you and only ONE guest maximum 3) You can RSVP for ONE show only 4) You MUST supply your first and last name, AND the first and last name of your guest in one of the following scenarios: a] If you know both names when you RSVP (I know that sounds odd), all is OK, do it b] If you want to bring a guest and do not know which one yet (i.e. cannot supply a name), then RSVP for two, but get us/Akira the name ASAP!!! c] If you cannot get us the name of the guest until the day of the show, either you must arrive at the door WITH the guest, or tell us the guests' name at the venue (if the guest may be arriving seperate from you) 4) If you and/or your guest must cancel, contact Akira ASAP. We likely will need the seat(s) In other words, no one gets in without us having their name, or at least arriving at the door with the named list member. So, in a nutshell: To RSVP you must supply us with: 1) The show of your choice 2) Your full name 3) Your guests' full name (following the scenarios above) and you must re-RSVP ONLY to Akira chi3@ix.netcom.com This post is to ONLY concern RSVPs and show announcement. More info about Woodstock, lodging, camping, if not already posted, will be forth coming soon. Ditto for info on "what is allowed at the venue"....cameras, video, audio, on stage jam sessions (NO!!) outside venue jam sessions (likely!!), venue info, parking, etc...all that important stuff Your humble JewelStock servant, Mike Woodstock is GREAT!!! By all means, arrive early and check out the town, more info later. ONE LAST NOTE We are truly sorry about the one guest maximum per member, but the limited seating and the benefit nature of the second show dictated that during our meeting with Lenedra on Saturday. The lsit is too busy to deal with all these personal stories >people keep posting. Id like ot read only the real news. Having a Jewel-news >sub would be great. Another idea, as I think someone mentioned a couple of weeks ago, would be to put a header in the subject telling what the mail is about. They do this in RMTA and it really works well for me. We don't need anything elaborate. If it is just news just put something like (Subject: NEWS - .....) There doesn't need to be any other headings (it gets a little confusing sometimes). This will help those who just want news by making it easier to sort through everything. It will also save some unlucky person the agony of moderating a strictly news list. Some rules would have to be set and would need to be included in the FAQ, or in a seperate listing, that all new subscribers get. If you think this is a good idea say so so people will start doing it. It makes no difference to me because I will read all of the posts anyway.
