When Jewel and her moved moved into their vehicles together, her mom had a VW van with a pop top and Jewel had the green Datsun station wagon which is tiny. Jewel slept in it, with her surf board and carrots and peanut butter and celery, while she looked for a van to buy. We all know what van she bought. She lived in the Datsun about a month and then in her van about 10 months. Her mom lived in her own van for about 6 months. It was her moms suggestion that they live in vans. Lenedra was recovering from health problems and only worked part time. Jewel had a job she hated and which she lost cuz the boss wanted to date her. He was a jerk and fired her in a very mean way. Jewel came home crying and scared and her mom said "Look, lets not stress over the money thing. This is San Diego, its warm, lets live in vans. If you have a really low overhead you can live off a little gig or tips. Go for your dream instead of this job this. Get a gig. " So thats what they did. They used to pull their vans side by side so the side doors matched and have tea together at sunset. They both had favorite spots they parked at night and would look for each other in those places when they needed to hook up. So thats the story, Hiranya<<< That's so sweet. I want to cry now. Well, straight out of Lenedra's mouth at the meeting Bill, Akira and I had with her Saturday she said they already had "30 songs" in the can and done and the "all were stunning". STUNNING!!! She was ALL SMILES when she said that. My God, 30 done already!! They just started 11 days before, and I doubt they worked the first weekend. Also, are you sitting Sinjin(?), they are "VERY happy with 'Carnivore'." (my guess it's in the bag!!) Too bad I've never heard it, it seems to be a favorite. She also said they were very likely going to release another song off of PoY, no clues as to which song was given. We then asked if that meant that the second CD's release would be delayed and she said basically that is what Atlantic would probably do, considering that PoY is continuing to climb the charts and also considering her tour schedule this summer and fall. I can't remember where was when but she did mention Europe and Australia were on the fall schedule along with some US and Canada(?) {Bill, Akira....didn't she say Canada too?) As you may know, I had been asked to record this originally. As it now stands, the Bearsville staff will record it proffessionally since all the equipment is readily available. I'm sure that phenomenal results will be achieved by them. I spoke to Hiranya last night and she said that Bearsville will give me a DAT copy. I will copy it in the various formats needed for all the dubbing sites. Dan Stark, who originally distributed other tapes will be helping me to set up dubbing sites for distribution. You may be a welcome addition as one of those sites if you're up for it. Please wait to respond on this. A post will happen soon enough. There are very few of us with DAT cloning capability (Only 3 that I'm aware of). I will personally take care of whatever needs people have formatwise. When I was first told about these new plans, I was somewhat dismayed, but it will make for a much more enjoyable show(especially for my wife!) if I don't have to deal with lugging all the equipment down there and keeping it all safe before & after the performance. From what I know, there will be no taping allowed by list members. But ALL list members will be able to get the Thursday night show via the distribution. Also thanks to Chris for the info about the "CD guy". Since I've been archiving audio & video of Jewel, I've been approached by a bunch of people, as well. As you probably read a while back, I'm extremely "anti-bootlegging for profit" and I fear for the future regarding these things. I'm also in the process of finishing up a database on the recordings currently in the archive here(approximately 100 performances), some of which will also be available soon. Please contact me if you have audio or video recordings of Jewel and have not done so already. Lastly, I am back, so continue sending any updates corrections to me on the performance chronology. AmyJo & I will also be staying in a cabin at the Pinecrest Lodge which sounds like a great setup. I was also told by the Chamber of Commerce that the Rennaisance Fair is also taking place in Woodstock on July 18th & 19th so there should be plenty to do during the day. We look forward to meeting up with many of you soon.----Alan Bershaw Michael D. Rubin Product Manager, CD-Recorders Olympus Image Systems, Inc. Tefft) Date: Mon, 1 Jul 1996 10:46:08 -0400 Subject: news list The only way I can see a separate mailing list for news being useful is if it would be moderated -- with only one person actually sending out the postings which come in from other people. Otherwise, you'll get the case where you can subscribe to one list and miss out on important bits from the other (news being sent only to the discussion list), or you can subscribe to both and get tons of duplicates. Neither help anyone very much. But, on a mailing list as well as a newsgroup, moderation comes with its own problems -- mostly the possible lack of timeliness. ------------------------------ From: Derek Elder Date: Mon, 1 Jul 1996 16:24:28 -0500 (CDT) Subject: Newbie.... You wouldn't even have to deal with the possibility of non-Jewel news being there because it wouldn't be a list that people post to. You just subscribe to it and get an email anytime Jewel news is announced. That's what I do with Heather Nova. I subscribed to the Heather Nova news thing and get updates on tours, news, blah blah whenever new stuff occurs. Somebody would have to be the administrator for the list, much like Jeff Wasilko handles this list, but be more hands on. S/he would have to get the info, most probably by being a part of this list and scanning for the Jewel tidbits, compose the newsletter, and send it out to all the addresses that s/he has stored from people subscribing. I wouldn't do this myself because I love the discussion nature of lists like this and the Sarah list. But this idea is for those who don't want all the crap to filter through:) Paul Kim ------------------------------ From: Charles Nicholson Date: Mon, 1 Jul 1996 17:34:27 -0700 (PDT) Subject: Re: jewel NEWS list YES YES YES!
