We have been given a NARROW window and actually, the 18th is the LATEST date that can be considered. Please, no more begging for changing of the datedates!!! We have an 8 or so day window to work with, three of those we cannot consider as they are Friday thru Sunday. The 17th and 18th are NOT etched in stone, but the window IS. So, please NO MORE EMAILs asking for this date or that date. We have enough work to do right now without having to deal with requests of certain dates or "can I play the piano with Jewel on a song?" (actually got that one) and things like that. The final date of that window WILL be chosen based on the venue chosen and it's availability within the window. The 17th and the 18th are the favored dates due to the previous vote AND Lenedra at this time. However, go ahead and STILL EMAIL Akira if you want to go and have not yet "reserved" with him. An "over 250" list will be started. Listen, we now have 250 people saying they will go and "reserved" with Akira. The venue Lenedra wants holds "250 - 300" she is NOT sure yet how many. So, the CLOSING is temporary until we hear more. The odds are the CLOSING will be undone, Akira did day it was "tentative", he should have chosen TEMPORARY. Do not get up in arms over this. There is a GOOD chance it will open up again. With 250 wanting to come now, let's say it swells to a final of 310. We are not sure if a second show would be done if the venue holds, lets's say 275. They likely won't do a 2nd show for 35 more people, and having two shows for 155 each might not work either. This is TEMPORARY!! Still EMAIL Akira with "reservations to go" and you will be put on the next list. The LAST thing we want to do is say "you cannot come" after you have been already "reserved". Sit tight and this likey will OPEN up again, hopefully open up again. We have to talk with Lenedra again!! There is no rat to smell as an earler post said. It is easy to take thing out of context in written EMAILs. Mike C. Since everybody is in such a sharing mood and I'm relatively new to the list, I want to share something with you guys to break the ice. At the end everyone will be wishing they had a friend like Dean. Well one day earlier this month, I went to the mall and headed straight to the bookstore (a regular hangout of mine). I sat myself down in an out of the way place and began to read eight straight chapters of a book about the Apple Macintosh. I was really into my reading when an old man, kind of friendly looking, begins some small talk with me. He began by saying I looked like someone he knew who was a really great person. I smiled and nodded and just kept on reading. He continued trying to pry things from me like where I lived and stuff. Trying to be polite as I could be I answered him (of course I lied as to where I live, I'm not stupid). He kept going on and on and I could tell he wanted to start a conversation, but I'm not really that out-going and I tend to hang around by myself (hence I was at the bookstore by myself in a secluded spot). While I wasn't that responsive to him, I wasn't entirely blind as to what was happening here. A few years back, at the same bookstore and for all I know the same guy, tried to pick me up. He gave me a card, saying if I was ever bored and looking for something to do I could reach him there. I immediately discarded the card and never really thought that much of it other than it was another weird page in my life. Getting back on track, this guy probably was hovering over me for about 15 minutes. I was in the computer section and so I guess he had to pretend to be interested in something there to justify why he was still hanging around. As I was sitting on one of those stools you're not suppose to sit on at the bookstore, he bends down to reach a book on the lower shelf and on the way down, he briefly touched my thigh to help him balance. What's worse, he picks up a book on Windows '95. Big mistake. I really didn't know what to do but just sit there and continue reading and hope this guy leaves soon. Maybe it was because of my upbringing, but I tend to be very 'inward' and that's why I didn't scream or anything. Or maybe I was just shocked. Who knows. I waited and waited and he did leave. He was nice about it, he didn't pressure me into anything. In fact, he really didn't suggest anything or say anything that could incriminate him (but you could tell want he wanted). Afterwards, I thought 'who does this guy think he is?', and 'why can't I get the same luck with women?', trying to look at any aspect of it I could to laugh at. Breathing a sigh of relief, I continued reading but noticed I was just a bit tense. So I left the bookstore and decided to walk around and to stretch out. I had lunch and tried to smile what just happened away. Before leaving, I went to the restroom. Now here's the really weird part. I go up to a stall and a few seconds later, the old man from earlier walks up to a stall next to me. He then continues his conversation, and this time he was a little more candid. He tells me I'm a very handsome young man and that if I was looking for fun, he had a hotel room not far from there. I politely declined and left. The whole experience didn't really leave me emotionally scarred, but I wonder if I'll have a deep subconscience psychological effect latter on in life. The only change that has occurred since then is that I have made a conscious effort not to treat any women I see as eye candy. That, and I have become more loathsome to Microsoft products and become more appreciative of my Mac. Maybe I was giving off some kind of energy telling him I was one of those textbook kids (the kind that are emotional despondent or angst-ridden, you know, the ones that hang by themselves) we see in the news that are lured away by some perv on the internet, the kind you wonder if they had any common sense or what. But it's not hard to see how a young kid could be tricked because if you saw this guy walking down the street, you'd never think he'd be capable of such things. I still wonder if I should have punched him or something, or told some sort of authority, just incase he tries this on someone else... Lessons from this: 1. Things are not always what they seem (old cliche, but it works) 2. You are not safe anywhere, not even in the restroom. 3. If a stool says don't sit on it, then don't sit on it. 4. Bill Gates is the devil, Gilbert Amelio is our savior. I am a 17 year old male, and my head was in the clouds thinking that I'd be ready to live on my own in the real world now that I'll be going away to college in the fall - but this was a real wake-up call. While I still look forward to the experience, I'm somewhat taken back by the creeps out there looking to take advantage of people. I'm glad I could share this with you and get it off my chest because I've found it hard to share it with someone I actually know. I think I'll get off now, my hands are shaking...Oh, no, not because this was a very revealing and emotional experience for me, rather, I haven't typed something this long in a quite sometime since school got out almost a month ago... ;-) P.S. On a more serious note: Over the weekend, a classmate of mine (c/o '96) died in a car accident. He was coming home from a graduation party and it seems the driver had too much to drink (I'm not sure if he was the one behind the wheel). Now there's a state wide debate caused by the local media (probably because he was a football standout) asking if parents who let minors drink at parties should be held responsible for anything that happens to them afterwards. So all I ask is on your car pools to JewelStock or anywhere, be careful and be responsible. P.P.S. Thanks Mike. =83=83=83=83=83=83=83=83=83=83=83=83=83=83=83=83=83=83=83=83=83=83=83=83=83= =83=83=83=83=83 Jeth E. So obviously I can't go to JewelStock. To ease the pain, can I ask but one small favor from you all? In Hawaii, we have a radio station called "Radio-Free Hawaii" (you may have heard about it, Big Mountain made a song about them and they were in the top 5 of Rolling Stone's best small market radio stations ) and their deal is that they set up all these ballot boxes all across Hawaii. What they ask of the people is every week you vote for the songs you want to be heard, you vote against any songs you don't want to hear, and you nominate any undiscovered songs you think will become a success (if that song is chosen, it gets played by the station and the listeners call in to vote whether it deserves to be played in rotation). Every Saturday, the votes of that week are tabulated and made into a playlist and the more votes a song gets, a higher rotation it is awarded (or something like that). An example would be last week's chart: Here are the Top 36 Songs as voted by you for the week of Saturday, June 15. If you look at number 19 on that list, you see Jewel: 18. 19. I'M SENSITIVE/JEWEL (48-11=3D37) 4 The first number is where she placed last week, the next number is where she currently stands, after that is the song and artist, and in the parentheses are the number of positive votes she got minus the negative votes all totaling to the net number of votes she gets. The number to the far right is how many weeks she's been on the chart. Cool huh! I was wondering if you can help to put her near the top. I think she does not get enough air time. I didn't want to put this weeks chart because she's not even on it. :( Obviously not all of you can come to Hawaii and drop a ballot (however if you want, you can mail them in) but Radio-Free has there own web page. The URL is: http://www.lava.net/radio-free/ If you want to check out what the current chart is, you can go to: http://www.lava.net/radio-free/36songs.htm They also have other catergories, like if you don't vote for a specific song, but just list the artist, then they get but on the 'Top 20 Artist' list. You can find that at: http://www.lava.net/radio-free/charts.htm And the online ballot is located at: http://www.lava.net/radio-free/vote.htm I am not affliated with the station, but I like what they stand for, democracy. About 99.9% of what they play is voted on by the listeners (they have to play commercials, but even then there was one instance a local commercial was liked so much by the listeners, it was voted for and it got some additional rotation). So if none of you are going to vote in this year's upcoming elections, can I just ask you to at least exercise your vote here. Thanks a bunch. PS Was Jewel on the show 'Friday Night' (NBC) last week? Am I the only one who feels a little ticked off about being told I can't go, when the date is not even set in stone yet? ------------------------------ From: CONNELL@cs.lmco.com Date: Wed, 26 Jun 1996 9:08:20 -0400 (EDT) Subject: closing was a mistake:JEWELSTOCK Angels, Mike Connell at work here. The closing was a MISTAKE. Sorry. We need more info from Lenedra. I don't have the time now to try to straighten out this mess we have caused, and I apologize. Pleae bear with us, and DO NOT WORRY. We will talk to Lenedra ASAP and once we have more info, we will straighten this out, I guarantee you. As I said, we made a bad choice at a late hour, just realize what our intent was, not wanting to dissappoint anyone, and that is JUST what we did. Murphy's Law at work guess. Everyday angels.... I woke up this morning to find 34 posts from everyday angels complaining about my post last night. Obviously it was a mistake and a decision that could have probably been held off for a while. The problem was that we were hastily drawing upon the maximum occupancy number, given to me by L, for the venue. OF course this wasn't a number set in stone yet, but rather an conservative estimate. So since I didn't hear anything from L about changing this, I thought it wise to TEMPORARILY close the list for now, being that it would be less painful and easier to say "okay there a few more seats left in the venue, who can come?" than sending out posts to various "reserved angels" saying that " Due to an overbooking, I am sorry to inform you that there just aren't any seats for you". I guess I used the wrong word last night also, tenitive when I also should have said Temporarily. As I said it was a TEMPORARY closing and now I can REOPEN it now. I just got off the phone with L and the have some solid dates, numbers, and statistics for you. 1. The concert will be held on the 18th of July in the year 1996. ( this was decided upon by popular vote and L). 2. The member list is REOPENED... and you DO have to email me if you want to go! PLEASE PLEASE EMAIL ME BEFORE YOU SHOW.... i am compiling the list now with the solid dates. 3. IF anyone needs rooms to stay in also contact me... I am trying to reserve 50 blk rooms in hotels and motels today at a discount rate. Therefore I need to know how many people need rooms. 4. I am human and I do make mistakes. FORGIVE ME.... I was tired, and made a stupid mistake. 5. DON'T lose confidence on this event... IT WILL HAPPEN ! !!!! I have solid dates and everything. 6. HUG someone today... mom, friend, spouse, dog, cat, moniter, etc. 7. LISTEN to JEwel music..... Again I apologize for the hasty post last night and will try to make amends.
