It's possible to access the archives from majordomo, but unless you're on the digest list you can't get to the digests. Rather than fix that, I've made the archives available via the web at: http://www.smoe.org/lists/jewel/archives/ - -Jeff ------------------------------ From: MADPADS@aol.com Date: Tue, 25 Jun 1996 21:32:23 -0400 Subject: Re: jewel-digest V1 #302 hello people my name is john and I don't know if I have been getting my posts on but I have been trying.I am from long island N.Y. about 100 miles away from woodstock. And I hope I am invited to the show.If there is anything I could do to help anyone out there, being from the area almost ,let me know.I'm not sure how I got into digest form but here I am .I was goin to cruise my bike up to jewelstock by myself but there is always a chance of rain so,if anyone might like to hook up wit me for the cruise let me know. Also if people need to be picked up at one of the airports in the area I could possibly arrange that also.I don't have a bus but I have time and I am willing to help out.Email me to let me know or to say hello.I can't wait I am counting the days. see ya all soon, peace John "maybe if we are surrounded in beauty, someday we will become what we see" Jewel ------------------------------ From: schoon@thor.pla-net.net Date: Tue, 25 Jun 1996 21:41:37 -0500 Subject: various postings, All Jewel related Hello all, -I just got Lotus Word Pro for another e-zine and began to remember a time, before Jewelstock hit the fan, when other list members when talking about a fanzine for Jewel. I figure why not (after JS) start an electronic newsletter! The reason why I want to wait till after JewelStock is it would be a big burden keeping an eye out for slips in secrecy. If anyone is interested in helping me put this thing together, let me know. We could post stories about the trip to JewelStock, etc. -I would like to be deputized for Frisbee Guard Duty during the show. I too have been practicing. -Could someone please post the carpool records again. Now should be the time to work that stuff out. When JewelStock was first announced, I posted a message about possible publicity for the show. Since some of the newer people on the list may not have seen it, I will copy my original post here for all of you to see. After I got some feedback (and people were A LOT nicer to me in their replies then they were to the current message) it seemed there was consensus (from both organizers and fans) on how to handle it. Here is the original message: Before anyone tries to flame me, please realize that I fully intend to respect the secrecy of this concert, and I fully agree with limiting it to list members and a couple of guests. That being said... I have a loose connection to the Pop/Rock columnist of the Toronto Star (Peter Howell). IF everyone agreed, I could tip him off about the concert, so that he could write about it in his "Cyberpop" column (On Mondays, he writes a column about music news/events on the internet - this would definately qualify!) Since we don't want the public descending on Woodstock the day of the concert, I could tell him only a day or two before the event. (Assuming the concert is on a Thursday, it wouldn't be covered in the newspaper, until the following Monday, ensuring that only invitees and their guests know about it.) It might be pretty cool for our little endevour to get some coverage, to show the world what a few dedicated fans can put together in a short time, and also to show how caring an artist Jewel is, for recognizing and wanting to thank her internet fans. As I said before, I have NO intention of telling him anything unless I get overwhelming group approval. Just as a side note, Peter Howell is also a correspondant for Addicted To Noise (The online music info website). This is just an early post, to get an idea of what people think. Feel free to post your opinion, or e-mail me privately. Thanks Andrew Levstein lev@idirect.com After I received some feedback, I posted this message: Thanks to everyone for your input so far. It looks like the most common suggestion is to write an article or recap of the event, and then give it to the reporter after the fact. Also, this way, we might be able to include some pictures of the event for him. I would be VERY satisfied with this method. The reason I thought it would be a good idea to have some coverage, is that we often hear about artists who basically screw their fans for some reason or another. I think it would be nice for Jewel to be publically recognized as an artist who really appreciates her fans. (especially since she is getting some negative vibes from the media over the frisbee incident). Also, the nature of his column (Cyberpop - internet music news) seemed very appropriate for this event. Here's hoping it is a concert worthy of the front page! It is with sad regret that I have to TENITIVELY announce this, but: The tickets to the Jewel stock concert is TENITIVELY closed. I hope all of you will bear with me.... for a while. As I said, this is TENITIVE, which means it can change. I haveto see the venue and talk with L to see exactly how many seats there are. I should have an solid answer for you by the end of this week... Sorry .... for this.... and for those of you that did email me, you should be getting a email from me confirming if you can come/ how many people in the party. As long as it's not on the 17th, all will be bliss (I have an exam that day, as do some others, I imagine). Anyway, I wanted to make a post on gathering a caravan up the east coast. I'll be coming from the northern part of VA into PA into Jersey and then into NY. Anyone else in these states that would like to join? It would make the trip a bit more excitable and we all could feel like we were phat jewelheads...hey we could see kind veggie burritos on the way too! :)~ Anyway, if anyone is interested, please let me know. Also, PLEASE don't let this wonderful show get ruined by leaking out information. This means, don't post info from this list to other lists, call the paper, MTV for godness sakes, and what have you. I'd rather not see a beautiful and memorable event for those of us who have been quite dedicated (driving in blizzards to see her live, eh-heh) and bonded together go up in smoke. I beg each and every one of you to be trusted with this information. It's the right of the members of the list as well as the right of Jewel to have this thing go off well. The two are entirely unrelated, but here are some useful details about Woodstock, blatently ripped off from Happy's management on her mailing list. It should answer a couple questions I've seen posted today. - ---- Closest Airports: Albany (requires a 1 hour drive South to Woodstock) Newburgh (requires a 1 hour drive North to Woodstock) Amtrak goes to Rhinecliff about 20 mins from Woodstock on the other side of the Hudson. Trailways Bus goes right into town. Hotels : Best bets KINGSTON: Holiday Inn, Howard J's, Ramada, etc. ...B&B's around town. Woodstock Inn, Twin Gables... ...the whole town is one big restaurant and boutique. - ----- I'm not sure if our proposed venue (studio) is right in Woodstock, but it's right around there, right?
