I must say - I never expected so much mail, but it's kind of grown on me as I get to know people (well, figuratively, anyway). I'm 30,female, from Jersey City. Enjoyed Skinny Pete's bio and DanStark's tapes. Anyone in the New York area thinking of going to JewelStock? I would very much like to go, but don't think any of my friends are big enough JK fans to skip two days of work. I don't have a car, but would be willing to split the cost of a rental. By the way, what is digest form and how do you get it (or do it, or view it, or become one with it????) Has there been any discussion of Atlantic's home page which featured several pages of Jewel's writing and, I think, ARTWORK? I wonder where one could get that in printed form..... Also, in all fairness to Z-100, they are promoting the heck out of her - by way of several in-studio interviews, a live morning concert, etc. Well, that's all I have to say for the moment! ------------------------------ From: pingman@asu.edu Date: Fri, 21 Jun 1996 19:18:05 -0700 (MST) Subject: Re: It has gotten quite long... center of a Donut-empty center of the sun-hot ------------------------------ From: Tom Proven Date: Fri, 21 Jun 1996 20:24:08 -0700 (PDT) Subject: Jewel in Sacramento? Did anyone see Jewel when she played the radio festival in Sacramento, CAon June 13, 1996? I saw the show advertised and haven't been able to find any reviews. The Sac Bee had nothing that I could find. TIA. Tom email: provent@pls.lib.ca.us "I guess I just wasn't made for these times." The main reason is that if I am going to get into trading tapes of a particular artist (or even buying a boot CD) I am probably such a big fan of that artist that I buy evrything they release. Unfortunately, some artist just don't release enough stuff for the more rabid fans. Take Pearl Jam and Jewel (the two artist I have the most boots of). In addition to the boots I have everything thing they release including any single that has b-sides and any soundtrack with previously unreleased stuff (of course this fanatical devotion has caused my CD collection to grow to 500+ in the past two years). How am I taking money from these artist by trading tapes or otherwise acquiring boots? I have given them all the royalties I can. In my opinion, it is the record companies fault that their is not being more live stuff. The probably feel a live alvbum with new songs would hurt the next album and old songs would hurt the previous one. They have this system of trying to play each album out releasing a single as soon as the previous one falls off the charts. I heard a record exec. talking about Smashing Pumpkins' "Mellon Collie and the Inifite Sadness." He was saying how the company (Virgin I think) could make the double album last over two years on the charts by spacing out singles properly. Thirty years ago bands could tour and make new albums quickly. The Beatles must have had well over a dozen albums over about eight years. An artist like Jewel (who obviously write very prolifically) could have a new album every year or less. Sadly, this doesn't fit the current marketing system for artists. I think the record companies are hurting there artist, but they don't care since they will always have a new band to exploit next week. (See I tried to warn everyone how cynical I was ;) ) pjk ------------------------------ From: "Hunter P. Eggink" <102001.217@CompuServe.COM> Date: 21 Jun 96 23:52:24 EDT Subject: Center of. . . I'm not that important, but I would like to claim to be the center of the paper mache (correct spelling?) alligator that sit on top of a cabinet in my room. If anyone has objections, just tell me, I'm flexible. I'm sure I can find something else to be the center of.
